🐾COURTESY LISTING🐾

Sitka is a friendly 1.5 year old, 59 lb Malamute & Husky mix searching for her forever family! She is fully house and kennel trained, great inside and will let you know if she needs out. Play time is absolutely her favorite time. She loves to be around other dogs playing with them and enjoying her pack. Although, she is not a big fan of cats.

Sitka has been learning to walk on a leash and becoming really good with the leash during her walks. When she is not outside, she is more than happy to relax on the couch, or a good soft doggie bed. Sitka is not treat driven but loves some good pets and cuddles as an award during her training. Spayed and UTD on vaccines.

Are you ready to give Sitka her next adventure? She is young and eager to join your family!

Location: Bainbridge Island, WA.

Dakota and Nicole are an 6 year old bonded pair with a unique mix of Alaskan Malamute and Irish Wolfhound. When you first meet Nicole she will run to greet you because she loves to meet people! Dakota may be a little cautious initially, but will warm up quickly because she also loves pets and attention.

Nicole is an energetic girl who loves playing with toys and her sister, Dakota. Both of them would enjoy a nice yard to feel safe in, but are also perfectly happy being indoors or going on car rides with you. They know some commands including "sit", "lay" and "shake."

Dakota and Nicole are a bonded pair and need to be adopted together. They both will excel in a furever home that will spoil them making them feel like princesses.

🐾 Help Koda Live His Best Life! 🐾

Meet Koda, a sweet 3-year-old Alaskan Malamute whose journey has been anything but easy. After his owners’ divorce, Koda was surrendered to a local humane society, leaving him without the loving home he deserves. Diagnosed with hip dysplasia and arthritis at just 1 year old, Koda’s condition has worsened over the years, leaving him in constant pain and unable to enjoy the simple joys of being a dog.

The humane society, heartbroken but unable to afford the costly surgery Koda desperately needs, reached out to WAMAL for help. On Christmas Eve, Koda's luck changed when a compassionate couple, stopping by to donate in memory of their beloved pet, laid eyes on him. This incredible couple has stepped up to foster Koda, committing to the challenging journey of surgery and rehabilitation to give him a pain-free, happy life.

Now, with their support and the help of WAMAL, we’re working to get Koda a bilateral hip replacement—a life-changing surgery that will let him run, jump, and play like other dogs his age. But we can’t do it without your help.

Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to giving Koda a second chance at life. Let’s make sure this sweet boy’s story has the happy ending he deserves.

👉 Please consider donating today to help Koda heal, thrive, and live his best life. Together, we can make a world of difference.

Daisy is an friendly girl eager to please her humans. At only 2 1/2 years old, she still behaves like a silly puppy. She loves to play, get belly rubs, run zoomies and relax in her crate after she tuckers out.

Daisy knows many commands including sit, come, heel, down and stay. She is treat motivated and is eager to learn more with her current foster who is providing further training. Daisy is going to be a great partner for all kinds of activities. She's been learning to pull in harness. She also enjoys taking walks on her leash and would appreciate a big yard to run around in.

Daisy's future furever home should have plenty of space for her, providing ample exercise, training and understanding of the Malamute breed.

Hades is an 7 year old, 75 lb sweet and gentle boy who thrives on attention from his humans. He is okay with several short walks each day, but a nice scenic walk or hike makes him very happy. He also loves the water, and a car ride with the windows cracked is always a great way to start an adventure.

Hades knows many commands including the basics "sit", "down," and "stay". He also responds to loving commands "hug", "kiss" and "cuddle", and fun commands like "dance" and "go through" where he will run through your legs like a tunnel. Despite his age, he still has a lot of puppy energy.

Hades would love his future furever home to be a quiet, relaxing environment for him where he can play, share your bed and feel like he is your #1 priority.

Summit is an 8 year old, 75 lb Malamute & Husky mix. He is independent, smart, playful, and affectionate. A large securely fenced yard for him to run zoomies and burn energy would be ideal. He also enjoys long daily walks where he can explore. After a walk, he loves to cuddle and relax with his humans!

Summit is crate trained, however he does not like being confined for too long. His furever family should have the time to spend with him and go on many adventures.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Summit, please visit our website and complete an adoption or foster form. Questions? Please email us at: [email protected]

Pippin is an playful, energetic 2 year old, 70 lb girl that will thrive with an adopter who has the time to spend with her and help her grow into a mature adult lady. As a purebred Alaskan Malamute she shows all of the breed characteristics, from loving and cuddling to stubborn, "I don't hear you" attitude. Pippin enjoys being active with walks, hikes, car rides to the river or meeting new friends.

She is smart and will be able to learn more with dedication and patience. While initially shy, once she is introduced to a dog or human, she warms up and enjoys playing with them. Pippin will be a wonderful dog for an active family, She loves to nap near you while you're working from home and will follow you around. She would do best in a home with another friendly dog(s) to help ease her separation anxiety.

🐾COURTESY LISTING🐾

Rocky is a 6 year old, 80-pound Malamute mix who is ready for his forever home! He is neutered and fully vetted. Rocky is a sweet boy who is eager to please! He enjoys training and knows some commands, including "sit" and "down." He is full of energy, loves to play, yet is also affectionate and loves snuggle time.

He is very exuberant and loves to meet people. Rocky needs an experienced dog owner; someone with knowledge of the Malamute or Husky breed would be beneficial. He would love a family that is very active so he can go on runs, hikes and more.

Rocky has lived in two different homes with other dogs. While he gets along with most dogs, he has been competitive with another "alpha" male in one of the homes which has led to a few scuffles. He would likely do well with another dog of similar size that does not insist on being the "alpha." He can be too much for small dogs, as Rocky doesn’t always seem to be aware of his size. Rocky would be fine in a home where he is the only dog but still able to have socialization with other dogs. He may do well with one other dog in the home who is compatible energy-wise and will tolerate his playfulness.

We prefer a home without small children only because they could accidentally be knocked over. We are insisting on a home with no cats, as we have not observed him around kitties. A yard and a strong, very tall fence are an absolute must for this boy.

Overall, Rocky's foster parents have described him as very sweet and affectionate!

Our story

WAMAL is a 100% volunteer run non-profit which serves Washington and Oregon. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and locations. In 2019, through an extremely generous donation from one of our supporters, we were able to open up our own small shelter where we are currently able to take in up to 8 rescues dogs. We use commercial kennels and foster homes for additional pups. The average number of dogs we have at any time ranges from 20-30, of all ages but rarely under 8 months old. Our adoption process involves an application followed by a home visit where we discuss the adoption process, answer questions and make sure applicants can provide a safe, loving and pet involved home for our rescues!

It takes a tremendous amount of volunteering to make WAMAL rescue possible and we open our homes and hearts to Malamutes in need. We are always looking for others who would like to help, in whatever form or amount of time people can donate. This organization is only able to do what we do because of this generous and dedicated team of volunteers - they truly make it possible to save the lives of this gentle and loving working breed. If you would like to join us please email us at [email protected]. The pride (and pain) of our lives are our beloved Mals!

The first step for meeting/adopting a WAMAL Malamute is to complete the required adoption application at: http://www.wamal.com/adoptform.pl Once WAMAL receives the application the adoption process begins with scheduling a home visit.

If you are interested in fostering a rescue Malamute please visit our website at www.wamal.com and complete the Foster Home Application.
