PERMANENT ODH HOME NEEDED!
(in W. Washington or Portland, OR only)

"Sasha" is an amazingly cute wirehaired dachshund mix, super-senior spayed female, who weighs 12 pounds. This girl came to the shelter when her person passed away; neighbors came to the rescue and got her out of the house. Now in a temporary shelter foster home, she gets along with all though particularly likes to snuggle with dad on the couch. She loves to be outside, wandering around the yard, and the former neighbors reported that she likes walks and is lively and friendly. She lived
with another dog before and now is fine with one in the temporary home.

Her bloodwork is pretty good so organs are functioning well, but
her teeth are terrible. It may take some effort to get her potty manners
back (no doubt they weren't sent outside regularly in the recent past)
but look at that face - it will be worth it.

As an Old Dog Haven forever foster, all vet bills are paid by our organization (thanks to donations!). This means you don't have the worry of vet bills. We do have a process to apply to foster for Old Dog Haven, so please read through the information below and contact us.

https://olddoghaven.org/how-to-help/fostering/

Old Dog Haven has no facility or shelter, every dog we take into our care goes into a private home-a home that has been thoroughly vetted. There's a process to become a forever foster for us that includes a home visit which is why sending dogs outside of W. Washington or Portland, OR is not possible. We know this is frustrating to some but please remember, we have the dogs' best interest in mind and hope those of you who live outside of our foster area will still share our plea because you may reach someone who can foster for us!

We appreciate that so many of you want to help senior dogs. If you are not in our area, check with your local rescues and shelters about fostering or adopting. There are senior dogs (and dogs of all ages) in need everywhere.

Max’s story is extremely disheartening and we hope when people read what has happened to him they will understand Max a little more and be willing to give him the time he needs.

Meet Max, an eleven year old Corgi/Chihuahua mix. Max’s owner brought him in to Owner Surrender him. Due to a variety of factors including how stressed he was and reactive with staff we informed the owner that is was not in his best interest to be left at the shelter and resources were provided to the owner for other options of rehoming him in a less stressful manner. You can imagine or sadness when the owner went to sit in their car and called local ACO and PD to report the dog as a stray, the dog was then picked up from the owner by an ACO and brought into us.

Needless to say, our initial assessment of Max not doing well at the shelter was correct. We still cannot touch his head and although we are now cautiously able to take him out for walks, the shelter is not a good place for the senior pupper. When he is in the office of one of our staff members he is very standoffish and looks at the door, waiting for his owner to come. He needs someone who will give him time to warm up, understanding that he has gone through a lot of change and is very confused. He would do best in a home with no young kids at this time. We are looking for someone who will unconditionally love this older guy and make sure he is never given up again, especially to a shelter. If you have a heart for seniors and dogs that are curmudgeon look no further. Max is a portly 23 pounds and it wouldn’t hurt him to loose a few pounds. We are sure there is a heart of gold behind his standoffish nature he is just looking for the right person to show it to. You can apply to adopt Max online.

Not a single inquiry has come in for Cora. We need to help this beauty find an adoptive home. Will you help by hitting your share buttons for Cora today?

Calling all Chow lovers!

Meet Cora, a 13.5 year old Chow Chow. This gorgeous girl weighs 45 pounds. Cora's lifelong owner is sadly unwell and can no longer care for her. We hope to help find Cora the adoptive home she needs to continue being loved and cherished.

We are told that Cora is very content to be on her own. This is apparently a Chow Chow trait. While she has lived with other dogs, she is happy to be an only animal. However, Cora could live with another dog, a dog her size that is mellow. She does not appreciate small dogs that bark at her. Cora has only been observed around cats while she's been on walks. She doesn't try to chase them so perhaps she could live with a dog savvy cat? Cora does fine with children aged 10 and over.

Cora will be sure to let you know when your deliveries have arrived! This is when Cora barks. While she is good to stay alone in her home when the humans leave, one will need to give Cora time to adapt to her new home and allow her to settle in and learn that you will be returning.

At this time Cora can manage stairs but she did have knee surgery and has some arthritis-which is understandable, given her age. Ideally Cora won't have to climb or descend too many stairs in her adoptive home. It's been a couple of years since Cora saw a vet so her adopter should be prepared and able to afford her vetting. Cora is due for a full senior check up with lab work. This is all very important to take care of. Additionally Cora's adopter should be able to afford her regular grooming-LOOK at that luscious coat!

Cora is a lovely girl who enjoys her daily walks. We are told she is good on leash. She sounds like a loyal dog who, if given the chance to bond with a new person. will be your new best and loyal friend.

Cora is located in Olympia, WA. For contact information please email: [email protected]

This is a courtesy post. Cora is not an Old Dog Haven dog. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

"Hi Ya! I'm Duke. You are seeing me here because I need a new home. I am an 11 year old yellow labrador retriever. I am a big boy who weighs 80 pounds. I am a lover! I love people of all ages (except the young kiddos who can be rough sometimes). I love cats and other dogs. My folks will tell you I am the bestest boy.

I have good house manners. I stay inside without any issue. I use a dog door to get out when I need to do my business. I am not a barky boy but will join in if another dog is barking. Right now I can manage stairs but I'd hope for a home without too many to climb as I get older. Keeping my joints healthy and moving will be important so that I can keep my mobility strong.

It's been a while since anyone had time to take me for walks so I'm hoping in my new home, we can get out and walk. Walks are FUN! It's best to walk me with a harness as I will pull in my excitement to explore and smell all the smells. I'm a lab, afterall!

I love water! Any form of water is great! Creeks, lakes, heck, even a sprinkler can be fun! Above all my favorite thing to do is to snuggle with my people. My human says I'm the most loving dog ever. Next to my humans is my happy place.

While I am up to date on my shots, I've not had a senior wellness check up. If you adopt me, you should be ready to take me in, have your vet give me a good looking at and have my blood drawn and a urinalysis too. This will give you the best picture of my overall health. We can start from there and hope for some good years ahead of us. I promise to make it worth your while! I am a happy dog who wants to make my people happy."

"Hi there! I'm Dollie, a 13 year old Jack Russell Terrier. I am in search of an adoptive home after losing my longtime person and home. Extended family took me in when my person passed away. I appreciate them so much but now I'm ready for an adopter ready to make a lifelong commitment to me!

Currently I'm a little on the chubby side, I weigh 24 pounds now but my goal weight is between 18-20 pounds. I'd love to find a home with someone who will take me for daily walks. I can walk up to 45 minutes around the neighborhood. That could help me shed those pounds! I behave well on leash so we can enjoy our time outdoors. My joints can get a little achy after my walk so it'd be nice to have some joint support to keep me going.

I have lived peacefully with other dogs and back in the day, I lived on a farm with horses. I have never seen a cat so I can't tell you how I would react to one of those. Since my farm days I settled into the 'burbs and enjoy lap time or taking naps on the couch or a chair. I have good house manners, needing to go out about every few hours. I do take a medication called Incurin for urine leakage. Keep me on that and I should do just fine. Of course being a senior dog, I will need regular check ups just to keep up on maintaining my health.

I used to make my person smile all of the time. I do this fun trick where I sit up and that makes people laugh. I love balls and toys to play with and have learned how to give myself a good rub on my back with my ball or toy. When you wake up in the morning, I greet you with a happiness. I've heard people call me "delightful", I like to think that means someone would want to keep me around forever!

Kids age 10 and up are great. They know to be nice and enjoy my company. Not much makes me cranky though I don't appreciate too high of energy in the house as it can make me a little unsure. I will bark to announce a visitor's arrival. Most of the time I find a nice place to hang out either inside the house or out in the fenced yard. When you have time to sit and relax, I'll be there to keep you company. If I sound like the gal you've been looking for, let's meet!"
