Pets with diabetes can’t make or properly use their own insulin, which makes it harder to convert food into energy and leads to lethargy and other side effects caused by extra sugar in the bloodstream. It’s estimated that 1 in 300 adult dogs and 1 in 230 cats in the US have diabetes. It can’t be cured, but it can absolutely be treated to maintain a good quality of life.

The lymphatic system helps keep fluids in your body healthy and circulating, and makes up part of the immune system- it includes tissues and organs like lymph nodes and the spleen. Lymphoma is cancer of the lymphatic system- lymphoma accounts for 15-20% of new cancer diagnoses in dogs.

A number of popular breeds are more predisposed to canine lymphoma, like German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Poodles, and there are different kinds of lymphoma and levels of severity.

The best thing you can do for your canine friend is regular annual or semi-annual check-ups with a veterinarian, who can identify the signs and help put together a treatment plan. "The first reason is that seniors need it," said Lott. "They're some of the most overlooked dogs at shelters. People don't want old dogs; they want young dogs."
