📣 PSA from Governor Biscuits: Keep an Eye on Your Guys! 🐾👑

Meet Governor Biscuits — a very important fluffy man who’s had a tough week. This big, sweet boy came to us twice in just a few days for a urethral obstruction, a serious and potentially life-threatening condition most common in male cats. 🐱💔

Despite his incredible family doing everything right, poor Biscuits developed severe urinary crystals that blocked his ability to p*e — again. He’s been hospitalized both times and is now on a customized care plan to help prevent another recurrence. 🩺💊

Here he is, being snuggled like a baby by our amazing vet assistant, Paige.🧸

👉 Why this matters:
Male cats are especially prone to urinary blockages. It can happen suddenly and requires emergency care. Early signs to watch for:

🔸 Straining to urinate (often mistaken for constipation)
🔸Frequent trips to the litter box with little or no output
🔸Crying out in pain
🔸Licking the ge***al area
🔸Hiding or acting unusually lethargic

⏱️ If you see ANY of these signs — don’t wait. A blocked cat can decline fast and needs urgent treatment.

We love Prismo — but his snack choice was un-raisin-able. 😅🍇

This doodle got into over half a pound of raisins (his toxic dose was just three…) and ended up in our ICU for 72 hours of IV fluids and close monitoring of his kidney values.

Thankfully, he made a full recovery with no signs of kidney damage — and somehow managed to be a 10/10 patient the entire time.

He even snuck a little kiss to Dr. Zaragoza during one of his exams — resulting in the sweet moment below. 💚

Reminder: Grapes and raisins can cause acute kidney injury in dogs, even in small amounts. If your pet gets into something they shouldn’t, call us right away at (206) 634-9000.

Emergency vs. Urgent Care for Pets — What’s the Difference?

When your pet needs care, knowing where to go can save valuable time:

🚨 Emergency Veterinary Care is for life-threatening situations such as severe trauma, difficulty breathing, seizures, or uncontrolled bleeding.

🚑 Urgent Care for Pets is for same-day medical needs that aren’t immediately life-threatening, like ear infections, vomiting, limping, minor wounds, or sudden skin issues.

Are you unsure if your pet needs emergency vet care or urgent care? Call us! Our veterinary team can guide you and ensure your pet receives the right level of care promptly.

We also know that emergency vet visits and urgent care costs can come unexpectedly. That’s why we accept the CareCredit credit card*, which offers flexible, budget-friendly financing so you can pay for veterinary expenses over time. If approved, you can use it right away, for both your pet’s health and even your own personal healthcare needs.

Because your pet’s health can’t wait. 💛

🐾 Deaf Dog Awareness Week | Sept 21–27 🐾

She makes regular appearances on our social media, but this is Franny — or, as she’s sometimes known, The Franimal. 💥 Born deaf but never missing a beat, Fran is the four-legged queen of vibes and hand signs.

Franny belongs to one of our LVTs (and wearer of a few different hats here at Emerald City), Kendra — who also happens to be the one writing this post. 🙋‍♀️ So forgive the fourth wall break while I gush about my girl.

Fran’s my hiking buddy, my toddler’s partner in crime, our vacuum and garbage disposal, and the endlessly patient foster sister to a rotating cast of bathroom-dwelling animals. Her life may be quiet, but it’s full of love, adventure, and more tail wags than I can count.

This Deaf Dog Awareness Week, we’re celebrating the incredible resilience, intelligence, and connection that dogs like Franny bring into our lives. Deaf dogs can and do everything — they just do it a little differently. 💙

Big thanks to Resilient Hearts Animal Sanctuary for the steady stream of cute puppies recently!!

Meet Dot! She came in for a quick check-up after a grouchy pup gave her a little chomp. Just like her buddy Kiki, she’s now back home, safe and sound, recovering with her foster-to-adopt family.

Happy tails, Dot!! 🐶💖

Pets can’t tell us when they’re in pain, but they do show signs of it. Recognizing the signs of pain in pets early can make all the difference in keeping them healthy and comfortable.

👉 Watch for common pain symptoms in dogs and cats:

- Limping or difficulty moving
- Changes in appetite or sleep
- Hiding, withdrawing, or reduced interaction
- Whining, growling, or unusual vocalization
- Excessive licking, chewing, or grooming of one area
- Muscles Spasms

Pain in pets is never normal. Whether it’s arthritis, injury, dental disease, or another health concern, timely veterinary care is key.

📞 If you notice these changes, call us. Our veterinary team is here to help, whether your pet requires a routine exam, pain management, or an emergency veterinary visit. We’ll guide you to the right next step to keep your pet safe and thriving. 💛

Ezra was hospitalized after stealing and eating a dangerously large stack of dark chocolate pancakes — a dose that could have been fatal without emergency treatment. 😱

He wasn’t a fan of the kennel (understandable), so he spent his stay snuggled into a mountain of blankets with 1:1 care — not quite his mom, but we did our best as his emotional support humans 💛

We’re so happy to share that he’s been discharged and is back home where he belongs. Rest up, sweet pancake bandit.

Meet Kiki! This sweet baby came to us from our friends (and neighbors!) at Resilient Hearts Animal Sanctuary.

She came in with a few scrapes after a tiff with another pup, but nothing a little TLC, antibiotics, and therapeutic nose boops couldn’t fix. 💗🐶

Kiki’s is recovering with her foster-to-adopt family, who are already head over heels for her — but many of her friends at Resilient Hearts are still waiting for their shot at forever.
