✨ Favorite Thanksgiving side?

Ours is BRUSSEL SPROUT! 🥬🐶

(Not the vegetable — this incredible puppy from our friends at Resilient Hearts Animal Sanctuary!)

This perfect lil’ peanut — pictured here with Aryn, one of our fabulous CSRs — came to see us for a UTI that was making her feel pretty crummy. After some outpatient care, she’s now off to spend her holiday with a wonderful medical foster. 💛

If your pets aren’t feeling their best over the holidays, Emerald City Emergency Clinic is here 24/7 for problems (and pets!) big and small.

Wishing you and your furry family a safe and cozy Thanksgiving! 🧡🦃🐾

We may be a small animal emergency hospital… but sometimes, we treat giants!

Meet Cedric, an incredible 76-kilogram St. Bernard who came to visit us for forelimb lameness. Radiographs ruled out anything scary (PHEW!) and were consistent with a soft-tissue injury — just an ouchy sprained wrist!

His treatment plan: rest, pain meds, and plenty of extra couch time (which we’re pretty sure he won’t mind).

Get well soon, Cedric! 🐾💚

Meet Vigo, our first Care Beyond Limits patient! Town and Country Animal Hospital recently helped the very first pet through Lakefield’s new Care Beyond Limits fund: a shoulder-riding, upside-down-snuggling cat named Vigo.

Vigo has battled painful stomatitis for years. When his pain and infection returned again, his family was facing financial hardship, including underemployment and being unable to qualify for standard financing support at the time. That’s when the fund stepped in, becoming the lifeline he needed to receive care and finally get relief.

He’s now recovering and back to what he does best: snuggling on shoulders and charming everyone he meets. This is exactly why Care Beyond Limits exists - to lift barriers when pets need care the most.

More stories to come. 💙🐾

Throughout 2024, anyone who stopped by our booth at conferences was entered to win a once-in-a-lifetime World Vets trip. We’re excited to share that our winner Breyanne just returned from her unforgettable adventure in the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador!

She spent the week making memories and a real impact. Alongside the World Vets team, volunteers provided free veterinary care to 172 animals on San Cristóbal Island, including 127 spay/neuter surgeries, 34 medical consultations, and several advanced procedures.

Huge thanks to our partners at World Vets for their ongoing dedication to improving animal health around the world.

And if you want your shot at the World Vets experience? Make sure to stop by our booth at upcoming events for your chance to win this opportunity of a lifetime!

🐾 Meet Draco – the FIP Warrior 🐾

Draco came to see us battling frustrating, vague signs of illness. His family had done everything they could to help him, but diagnostics came back inconclusive, and treatments only offered temporary relief. He just kept getting sick.

After ruling out other possibilities, we arrived at a diagnosis that, not long ago, would have been devastating: FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), a viral disease caused by a mutated feline coronavirus. Without treatment, FIP is almost always fatal. Until recently, the treatment for FIP did not have FDA approval, and many desperate owners sought the injectable treatment through unregulated and unreliable black-market sources.

Here’s the hopeful part: a compounded oral formulation of GS-441524 is now available and legally prescribable in the U.S. under FDA guidance. This medical and legal breakthrough has given countless cats like Draco a real chance at recovery.

Draco now comes in regularly for weight checks (and just to say hi!), and we couldn’t be more thrilled for him and his family. 💛

20 New Beginnings start now.
Earlier this month, our PawDoc Surgery + Dental Center team began caring for 20 rescued Italian Greyhounds from a hoarding situation in Smith County, TX. PawDoc Surgery + Dental Center will provide complimentary spay/neuter procedures, dental cleanings, extractions, microchipping, and rabies vaccinations through the Care Beyond Limits Fund, a Lakefield-affiliated charitable program.
In partnership with the Italian Greyhound Rescue Foundation Texas & Oklahoma Chapter, these procedures will give each dog the healthy, happy start they deserve after surviving one of the largest hoarding cases in the region.
As Dr. Joyce Li of PawDoc Surgery + Dental Center shared, “This is more than a medical mission, it’s a story of hope, healing, and second chances.”
Follow along to see how their journey unfolds and visit Italian Greyhound Rescue Foundation Texas and Oklahoma for more information on adoption availability. From rescue to recovery, and soon, to forever homes, we are honored to be a part of their journey 🧡

🐾 Happy Tails! 🐾

Last week, Luna’s family rushed her to us when an unplanned litter became dangerous. She was in labor, her puppies were in distress, and she needed immediate intervention to save her and the remaining puppies.

Our team acted quickly, helping Luna deliver two healthy, wiggly puppies — no surgery needed! 💙💙

We’re thrilled to share that Luna and her pups are home and, as of this morning, thriving at 1 week old!

Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, good company, and great food, but not every holiday dish is safe for your pet. Foods like turkey skin, onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, and desserts containing xylitol can be toxic, while plain green beans, carrots, and pumpkin are safer options in moderation.

If your pet gets into something they shouldn’t, don’t wait for symptoms to appear, contact or visit us right away. Quick action can make all the difference. Keep the feast joyful and your pets safe this Thanksgiving!

🎄🐾 The cobwebs are down and the candy’s (mostly) gone… you know what that means — it’s CHRISTMAS TIME at ECEC! 🎅✨

Our team’s pets are rocking festive “tree hats” made from bandage material — all for the ’gram! 😉🌲

No pets were harmed in the making of this post… but a few of their parents might be on the naughty list (or getting a little dirty kitty litter in their stockings). 😹🎁

🌟 Team Spotlight: Dr. Emily Fukuzato, Medical Director Extraordinaire! 🌟

Please join us in celebrating Dr. Emily Fukuzato, our incredible Medical Director, for completing her RECOVER Rescuer Certification! 🙌💚

This certification marks the second step toward becoming a certified RECOVER Instructor — an elite distinction in veterinary CPR education.

Dr. Fukuzato led the charge for our entire team, completing her online BLS (Basic Life Support) and ALS (Advanced Life Support) certifications — and encouraging every one of our doctors, technicians, and assistants to do the same! 👏

She then completed an intensive, hands-on Rescuer Certification course, mastering the most current, evidence-based CPR techniques in veterinary medicine. 🐶🐱💉

Next up, she’ll attend RECOVER Instructor Workshops to bring this lifesaving training to other veterinary professionals and even pet owners in our region.

💚 About the RECOVER Initiative:
The Reassessment Campaign on Veterinary Resuscitation (RECOVER) Initiative, established in 2010 by a team of veterinary emergency and critical care specialists, developed and disseminated the first evidence-based veterinary cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) guidelines.

Through the collaboration of over 100 veterinary specialists, these groundbreaking guidelines were first published in the Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2012 — with updated, expanded guidelines released on June 26, 2024.

We’re proud to have leaders like Dr. Fukuzato championing continued education and evidence-based medicine here at Emerald City Emergency Clinic. 💚

🐾 Call the Paw-parazzi! 🍂📸

Years ago, when we updated our website and had a photographer on-site, sweet Millie happened to be hospitalized here—and naturally, she stole the show. Her adorable face ended up all over our website and promotional materials, making her a bit of a (very) local celebrity. 💁‍♀️🐶

Last week, Millie came back to see us for a little UTI treatment, and we just couldn’t resist doing a mini fall photoshoot while she was here. 🍁✨

Welcome back, Millie — you’ll always be part of the ECEC family (and our brand aesthetic)! ❤️

Last month's VETtechU event was an incredible celebration of veterinary technicians — packed with energy, education, and inspiration. Attendees earned 14 hours of CE and heard directly from their peers, with nearly every speaker being a technician themselves.

Lakefield was proud to send Danielle C., Karly K., Katherine D., and Emily J. to experience it firsthand. We also joined Boehringer’s nominated techs for a private dinner — a night filled with connection, shared stories from the trenches, and plenty of laughs.

A huge thank-you to Boehringer Ingelheim for the partnership and to everyone who made this event so impactful for the technician community. 💚

After 29 years in veterinary medicine, Dr. Diane Zilker is officially retiring. Dr. Zilker and her husband, David, built Token Creek Veterinary Clinic 18 years ago, creating an exceptional AAHA-accredited hospital that’s become a true pillar in the community.

We first met the Zilker's about eight years ago, and over time, Dr. Gary Goldstein and our team have built a wonderful relationship with Diane, David, and their daughters Rachel and Sophie - who even worked at the clinic as a receptionist.

While we’re sad to see her retire, we’re incredibly grateful for the care, compassion, and excellence she’s brought to Token Creek and the countless pets and families she’s helped along the way.

From all of us at Lakefield Veterinary Group, thank you! We wish you, David, Rachel, and Sophie all the best in this next chapter, and we’re honored to continue the legacy you’ve built at Token Creek.
