'Tis the season for itchy pets! Our coastal area is a hotspot for flea infestation and environmental allergies for our pets. Flea prevention is important for all pets, but especially for pets with flea allergy dermatitis. Just one flea bite can lead to intense itching for weeks! If your pet is itching, licking and biting, give us a call.

Reminder:
Beware of xylitol, a sugar substitute found in candy, gum, and baked goods that is toxic to pets. If you have cats, avoid lilies, and be careful with decorations like balloons, ribbons, and candles.

We're moving!!

We are aware of the canine respiratory illness that has recently been in the news, and are monitoring the situation in Oregon carefully. Here is the latest press release from the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association:

Mysterious Canine Respiratory Illness -

Current recommendations:
1. Be sure your dog is up to date on vaccinations, specifically Bordetella and Influenza.
2. Avoid highly trafficked/social areas
3. Monitor pets for any signs of respiratory illness (coughing, sneezing, ocular/nasal discharge)

Here within our hospital, we have continued to carry a high standard of disinfection and will take additional measures of precaution as needed.

In preparation for the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday, here is a friendly reminder...

We know it’s hard to resist puppy dog eyes but be careful when it comes to sharing table scraps. Did you know that garlic and onions, in any form, are toxic to pets? And check those labels for xylitol, found in desserts, peanut butters, candies, and condiments. Xylitol is toxic even in small amounts.

*We will be closed on the 23rd and 24th, so please call in advance for prescription refills!

We want you and your pets to enjoy a safe Halloween!
Please keep all candy out of reach – especially chocolate and xylitol-sweetened treats. If your pet is spooked by doorbells and strange costumes, give them a quiet place to enjoy until the festivities are over.

We have loved seeing many of our patients today as they've stopped by to trick-or-treat!

This is "Oakley"! He came to us with a broken leg and a bag containing his must-haves - his favorite food and favorite stuffed animal. Oakley's fracture repair went smoothly and Dr. Kelly was sure to give extra affection post-surgically. He was a pleasure to have in the hospital. 💙

Meet Grover!

He is a Guide Dog for the Blind and came from San Rafael, California to our local community. Dr. Benjamin Spall performed TPLO repair and during his recent 8-week post-operative appointment, Grover has been cleared to return to work! Dr. Spall is the leading surgeon of the Pacific Northwest and enjoys helping pets return to their happy and active selves.

We are wanting to raise awareness of the current "kennel cough" outbreak. There have been numerous cases in the surrounding areas recently and it can be easily spread. We advise that you keep your dog away from high-risk areas and to keep your pet isolated if he/she is being treated for kennel cough.
