URGENT NEED

Located In Floyd, VA but transportation can be arranged

Meet Maya (12-year-old female TT who is deaf) and her bonded buddy Finnegan (9-year-old male Tibetan Spaniel).

Their Mom is at the end of her life and is has entered hospice care. Her dying wish is that a safe and loving home be secured for her beloved dogs. Her wish (as well as her fear) is for them to be placed together. She begs that they are not split apart. Please help me give this lovely woman peace of mind. It was a very sudden illness, and she is only 70 years old.

The dogs' current caretakers report that these two are lovely dogs who have been at their human's bedside constantly since the illness began.

The are housebroken .

Do you have the room in your heart to welcome them? Please fill out an application to adopt https://www.layten.com/cgi-bin/RescueForm.pl

We will keep this short and sweet because we really, really would love you to see the two fascinating pieces that 60 minutes did Sunday night on dog health, genetics, and research. Also a few good articles for the health nerds, and those we would love to become health nerds. Please, let us know what you think! The segments are second and third, called “Survival of the Friendliest” and “Comparative Oncology.”

Recently, a Tibetan Terrier Breeder of 47 Years who is having health issues caused by a car accident, contacted me, asking to help place a large number of Tibetan Terriers of all age categories.

The dogs are currently under the care of TTCA Rescue and are being housed in NJ as they are readied for placement in adoptive homes.

People interested in being considered to adopt one of these dogs are asked to fill out a Rescue Application at: http://www.layten.com/cgi-bin/RescueForm.pl and will be contacted if there is a dog available that Rescue believes would be well suited to the applicant.

Unfortunately, due to the amount of time that Rescue volunteers are currently devoting to these dogs, the Rescue committee is unable to take adoption inquiries by phone.

Although the breeder has made a substantial donation to the TTCA to help with expenses, additional donations to help Rescue care for these dogs are very much appreciated. Donations can be made to the TTHWF online or by mail (please make a notation that the donation is for "New home for TTs" https://www.tibetanterriersfoundation.org/html/Donations.html

Here are some pictures of the Happily Ever After's for some of these precious Tibetan Terriers!

In addition, I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank all who have assisted in this effort: Anita Lamison, Fran Kridakorn, Hollis Matson, Deborah, Stacey LaForge, Karen Tromblee, Flossie Barczewski, Jim Lenchner, Adria Martino, Rene Pard Stamm, Domenick Forchi and Jen Quigley

Thank you for your support!

Hawke and Cupcake have arrived in Asheville, NC. Their new Human's Tony and Dawn are enamored. They are exploring their new digs and yard and have even let Tony and Dawn pick them up and pet them. This is HUGE for those who know Cuppy and Hawke.

Thank you, Deidre, for your expert transport, handoff and instructions - we are blessed to have you.

We are so grateful for all who have helped get these two where they needed to be - Lyz, Anita, Deidre and Domenick. You are our Village

Mr Bean (aka Happy) made his way from Arizona to Kansas to join Katie Diamond and her family of furry creatures. Katie Diamond (aka Nancy) is no stranger to TT Rescue as she adopted a very abused TT - Mica - many years ago. Mr Bean was not abused but he certainly was not wanted by his previous family.

Nancy did not blink an eye when she heard that he forgot how to be housebroken - she stepped up and he is doing so well (I think the cat has something else to say but I believe things will change in time)

Many thanks to Katie Diamond for opening her heart and home to this precious boy.

I know many of you have been waiting on an update!

Ringo and Dee Dee are living their best life! A few weeks ago Jennifer Walker Maine and her TT Guru opened their hearts and homes to these two darling little beings. Many thanks to Jennifer for giving them a beautiful life even though they are seniors. We all know it is hard to take on senior dogs because they may not be around too long but we also know that the time spent with a senior dog is precious and beautiful - I know they are grateful for full bellies, long walks and comfy beds. AND Dee Dee got some awesome wheels!!!

This placement was hard but rewarding for so many of us - thank you Anita Lamison who tirelessly scoured our application database and interviewed dozens of applicants; Fran Tanner Mae Mae for keeping a pulse; Suzanne Respess for her wealth of knowledge on their previous life; Deidre Philpot for fostering them, loving them AND driving them to NJ; Jacqueline Faust who drove them up to Rhode Island; Gail Toracinta who let them stay overnight until Jackie would meet Jennifer the next day; Kate Stanuch who did the home visit - the list is so overwhelming !

These two sweet Tibetan Terriers touched so many lives and brought so many people together to get to their final destination - I love our TT community, their kindness and generosity - BRAVO!

This is what a labor of "pure" love looks like!

Thank you Tanner Mae Mae for freeing Ringo and DeeDee from a month spent in a vet's office ! Thank you Deidre Philpot for creating the "sweet" suite for them while they heal from their trauma and wait for the perfect family.

Stay tuned for more. If you would like to make a donation to Ringo and DeeDee care please use the following link https://www.tibetanterriersfoundation.org/html/Donations.html.

Fran and Deidre have so much love in their hearts to have made this happen today. It is so hard to put life on hold to help but for these two Tibetans, it will make the world of difference...

Love you both to the moon and back ❤ 💕 💗

Another New Beginning! Pamela Herzenberg and Larry have welcomed Medea into their home! Pam is a 3rd time adopter - most recently she adopted Moji (2017 Ketara Rescue). She felt Moji could use a buddy after the passing of Pari (2009 Missouri Rescue) and within weeks Medea was available. Medea was loved but a bit too much to handle for her previous owners. Now her energy is being put to good use - playing with Moji!

Moji and Medea have become fast friends and the humans are enjoying it too!

Thank you Pam and Larry for opening your heart and home to another TT in need

A picture is worth a thousand words - right?!
Our alumni adopter of 3 TTs since 2009(ish) just adopted a 4th . Kim Free just welcomed Linzhi (now Uma) into her home to join herself and Finn.
Crazy story behind Uma's rehoming but she is now where she is supposed to be!
So many thanks go out to Katherine Levario for picking up, transporting and overnighting Uma. Rosemary Sheehan who met Katherine and overnighted Uma before meeting Kim Free today.
We also had so many offers of help in the fabulous TT community - Earl K Miller, Tanner Mae Mae, MaryBeth Frosco, Jennifer Gillis, Byron Davenport, and Pam Brownlee. Anita Lamison was once again the backbone to this successful adoption!
Another New Beginning for a homeless TT. If you would like to make a donation to help us continue these efforts please follow the link below

I am in AWE of the Tibetan Terrier community who came together for Tibby, whose owner passed away. Jeanette Shown (and Jim too!) not only fostered her for a week but she also transported her to Pittsburgh - Thank you Jeanette and Jim for always willing to help our rescue. Ron Pankiewicz (and Margy Pankiewicz) who transported her from Pittsburgh to York, PA - Thank you Ron for volunteering once again to make a long trop for the benefit of a TT's Welfare. Rene' Pard Stamm who coached and counselled the adoptive family. Anita Lamison for being the go between, geographical coordinator, and communicator - thank you both for the endless support.
And of course Jodi Tashman and Nancy Napolitano who opened their hearts and home to this feisty little girl who needed to be rescued quickly . I can see from their smiles that they all have rescued each other -
Thank everyone for making this happen so quickly and effortlessly.
Happy New Life - Tibby!

Test for Pituitary Dwarfism in Tibetan Terriers Now Available

On April 23, 2021, researchers at Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory published a research article that identified a mutation causing Pituitary Dwarfism in Tibetan Terriers: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33890524/ . Affected pups appear normal at birth but thereafter do not gain weight or grow at the same rate as their normal littermates. Affected adult dogs are proportionally dwarfs. These dwarfs also manifest a puppy coat that fails to transition into the typical adult coat, often experiencing extreme hair loss as adults. In some cases, affected puppies may experience early death, or otherwise shortened lifespans.

This mutation is transmitted as an autosomal recessive trait, where all affected dogs harbor two copies of the mutation in the LHX3 gene. Pituitary Dwarfism PCR testing is now available in the US through MSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory: https://cvm.msu.edu/vdl (Order code: 80335) for $55. More information on sample collection and submission is available by searching the catalog for the “Pituitary Dwarfism PCR” or “80335” : https://vdl.msu.edu/Bin/Catalog/Catalog.exe

The TTHWF and TTCA would like to thank Dr. Matti Kiupel, DVM, Dr. vet. med., Dr.Habil, MVSc, PhD, DACVP, Dr. Tuddow Thaiwong, DVM, PhD, DACVP and Dr. Sarah Corner DVM, PhD, DACVP for their research as well as the Tibetan Terrier owners and breeders who contributed to the research that made this discovery possible.

Spring AKC CHF newsletter is here! Post pictures in the comments of your beloved TTs who have gone to the rainbow bridge as a result of a Ticke Bourne Disease or Lymphoma so that we can honor their memory!

It outlines some of the research that the TTHWF has supported in the past, specifically lymphoma research and the Tick Bourne Disease Research Initiative. The TTWHF was one of the co-sponsors of CHF grant 02502 discussed in the article: "Lymphoma Study Looks at Personalized Diagnostics in Preparation for Precision Medicine."
