What a fantastic group of people for our first ground obstacle clinic!! I had 2 separate sessions am/pm, a couple people brought 2 horses and didn’t both sessions. Everyone did fantastic, they all had obstacles that they did great with and ones that were more challenging. All the horses and owners improved lots over the session! Horses varied in age from 2-17 yrs old and they all did well 💕🐴

Just a thought I’ve had while here in South Dakota. If there is any of you that would be interested in your horse going on a trail riding training trip to places like this please contact me. Price will depend on location that I’m traveling to. Horses will have certain requirements. This opportunity will be open to 2-4 horses per year so spots will be very limited. These horses will be rode tons of miles, put through some long days, tough terrain, lots of water, and wildlife.

I will be getting together a date to do a ground obstacle clinic on a Saturday, there will be 2 sessions available. Morning and evening. This will cover getting control of your horses feet around, over, and through obstacles to build their confidence! If there is an obstacle you like to see please let me know!

This was his first day at diagonals, but was doing much better with his straight lines by the end! If you want your horse to lope slow he must practice loping!

🥃 Whiskey update!
His first 3 saddling were very eventful! Hint more pictures 🤦🏻‍♀️ Consistency is going to be key with him, and very impressive! Saddling #4-7 went wonderful. Saddling #8 he wanted to think about bucking and started to hump up, I backed him up aggressively and that was the end of that thought. Each time he gets saddled his “pre workout” gets shorter. Saddling #8 was a very brief warm up before saddling. But our end goal is to eventually be able to saddle and ride without lunging. We are far from that but we are leaps and bounds from the first saddling. Every horse needs something different, and as trainers we have to decide what that is. I am in no rush to get on Whiskey. The first several weeks of a horse being under saddle are setting them up for the rest of their life! Read the horse, take the time, and set them up for success 🐴💕

Thank you to the participants for this past weekends clinic at Spur S Arena! Everyone did fantastic and made great progress to improving their horsemanship! The clover leaf was this groups favorite loping exercise 🍀

Whiskey gave it his best shot at being a bucking horse 😂
Everyone does first saddlings differently, Whiskey was desensitized with the rope around his belly where the cinches would go for a couple days prior to his saddling. I do my best to get them prepared as possible, some walk off like no big deal and others buck like their life depends on it! The most important part of the saddling process for me is that it goes well and builds their confidence, meaning the saddle stays on their back and doesn’t go crashing to the ground or wind up under his belly and wreck his confidence more. Whiskey stood great for the saddling, yielded his hind quarters both directions before walking off. As soon as he trotted he really felt that saddle and blew up. Saddling day they get to wear the saddle as long as they need to. After he was done bucking in the round pen and I knew I could safely get him to the arena I turned him out to run and move with it on. When I was confident that he was over the bucking, and I’d moved him around that’s when the saddle got to come off for the day.

Follow Whiskeys c**t starting journey here, from first saddling to his first ride! This is my personal c**t. Owned him since he was about 6 months old. He is almost 3 yrs old now, I did his groundwork before he’s been turned out for the last year or a bit more!
