I never grew up participating in rodeos. I was raised in a strict ranching family and extra money to rodeo was never a thing. When I got to middle school and high school, my dad let me take my ranch horse to small 4H playdays around the area. Come high school, I would take my old trusty horse Walt, my weekend using cow horse, to rodeos to barrel race. Show up in a rusty ranch trailer and not know anything about barrel racing. Just knowing I wanted to do it. Failing alot, being embarrassed alot but never giving up my dream.

Sadie was a rescue mare essentially skinny and untrained (to my standard). Through many trials and tribulations, she is now a consistent athlete with winnings up to $2,000. She isn’t the fastest but she tries. She always gives me everything and tries her best just for me.

Moral of this story, whether your journey is a beginning horseman, wanting to do trail, rodeo, drills, really anything on YOUR horse journey… it is never success after success. You have to be knocked down to learn. We all have stories and our horses have stories. So the days we get so frustrated, just know that’s part of growing and learning. Always be humble. Don’t let your head get the best of you. Your heart and desire to learn and grow will guide you. ❤️

Agree 💯!

A $30,000 horse can't fix a 50¢ rider, but a good rider can fix a $0.50 horse.

This old adage holds timeless truth in the horse industry. While a talented horse can certainly make a rider look good, it's the rider's skills, knowledge, and horsemanship that ultimately determine success.

Many won’t like this or agree with it. Here’s the thing it only takes one mess up to create a problem with a nice horse. It takes 3 times or more to correct a problem.

Nice horses get ruined everyday!

As riders, we often focus on finding the perfect horse, investing in top-notch equipment, and seeking out the best trainers. But let's not forget the most critical element “ourselves”.

Developing your riding skills, understanding of the horse’s behavior, and ability to communicate effectively with your horse takes time, effort, and practice. It's not just about sitting on a horse and looking pretty – it's about becoming a true partner with every horse you ride.
