NOTICE OF HOLIDAY HOURS - 12/24-12/25 The shelter will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but rest assured that our staff will provide continued care for the animals. Experience the Magic of Christmas with a New Furry Friend - This holiday season, the Selma & Dallas County Animal Shelter encourages you to make a difference by adopting or fostering a stray animal. Our kittens are waiting for a loving home, and by opening yours, you'll create lifelong memories. True Story

So, last Winter, A friend of mine, let’s call her Suzy, had a friend of her’s, Sally. LSS, Sally had a very young puppy that Sally’s Mom had taken to the shelter. I wanted that puppy. I’d met him before and I wanted him.

So the next day, I go to the shelter. I explain the situation to the director. He says there have been no puppies surrendered recently and no puppies were currently being sheltered. OK, I’m confused. But the director and I get to talking when he tells me about one dog that has been there for 7 months. Without a second thought and without seeing him, I said, “I’ll take him.”

The director was very happy to have found a home for him and Merle was very happy to be sprung from doggy jail.

We don't have Merle here at our shelter, but we have other fur babies in need of a home visit the shelter foster or adoption should be among thanksgiving this year.

Look at all the puppies enjoying the beautiful weather, please come and visit us and pick out your new friend.

Penny and Prada are 6 month old lab/Shepherd mixes that are growing up in the shelter. They are both very sweet and could be adopted together or separately (they would love to be adopted together!) If you are able to show them what a home is, come out and visit them. Both are already fixed, current on vaccines, and microchipped. There is no adoption fee this month. We will be open Tuesday-Friday 10am-4pm and Saturday/Sunday 10am-1pm this week.

I hope you are as happy this Monday as Boo is with her ball! If you are looking for a goofy dog to lighten up your life, Boo is your girl. This 2 year old husky mix is available at Selma Animal Shelter. Come out and meet her 10am-4pm Monday-Friday

Penny is ready for summer!

Penny is a 6 month old lab/shepherd mix who knows how to beat the heat! This sweet girl is great with other dogs. She will be spayed, microchipped, and is current on vaccines. There is no adoption fee in May. Come out and meet her 10am-4pm Monday-Friday.
