DROSERA CAPENSIS - CAPE SUNDEW -
A carnivorous plant that is native to the Cape region of South Africa, where it grows in permanently wet, nutrient-poor soils.

Do not use tap water with this plant! Only use bottled, reverse osmosis or rainwater to water this plant. It's soil is made of spagnum and peat moss, and stays consistently moist. Sunlight required is a bright window still or 12 hrs of light if using a growlight.

HOW IT EATS

1. Attraction:
The sundew's te****les have sticky glands at the tips that secrete a mucilaginous substance, which attracts insects with its glistening appearance and sweet scent.
Capture:
When an insect lands on a te****le, the mucilage traps it.

2. Envelopment:
The te****les then bend towards the point of contact, and in Drosera capensis, the entire leaf can curl around the prey to further enclose it.

3. Digestion:
The plant secretes digestive enzymes (including proteases, esterases, and phosphatases) onto the trapped insect.
Absorption:
The plant absorbs the dissolved nutrients from the prey through the te****les and leaf surface.

4. Unfurling:
Once digestion is complete, the leaf and te****les unfurl, ready to trap another meal.
