Just a heads up that I will NOT be massaging any horses this coming week Sunday the 16th thru at least Friday the 21st UNLESS it is in the early mornings before the heat rises. So prior to 10am.

It’s not healthy for the horses due to the heat index plus tack on humidity levels. It puts the horses at an increased risk of heat stress, heat stroke, excessive sweating and/or lack of sweating. It could increase respiratory and heart rates past safe levels as well.

This also means you should take the temps + humidity into account when exercising/riding this coming week! This is my favorite chart to go by!!

I know times are tough, I appreciate each and every one of you!

I can do all shapes and sizes! I do charge a bit more for heavy draft breeds. Just $10 more per horse because there’s more body to cover! I love doing minis as well! They are just $40 each ❤️ These guys both fell into the $60 range!

I offer some group discounts as far as waving trip fees for multiple horses and so on. I will also come to 4H meetings and offer massages to 4H horses at a discounted rate! It never hurts to ask!

Stretch, stretch, stretch!

What does stretching benefit?
• increase range of motion
• reduce risk of injury
• improve flexibility
• improve stability
• increase blood flow for healthier tissue
• decrease behavior issues related to discomfort

Stretching should always be done slow, allowing the limb to be eased into position. Stretch till you feel light resistance. NEVER force a movement! Hold to allow the muscles to relax and elongate then place the limb down softly.

I figured it’s about time I should properly introduce myself! Especially since we have some new faces around here!

Hello, my name is Tegan. I am the equine massage practitioner behind Price Equine Massage. I’ve been practicing in this field since 2014/2015 when I started taking massage classes at Hocking College. I graduated from Hocking with my associates degree in Equine Health and Complimentary Therapies in May of 2015. I continued practicing after school but didn’t start officially offering to the public till 2018 after much persuasion from friends and family. I regret nothing! This “job” is very rewarding!!
I am married to my super supportive husband Austin and we have two kids. My oldest, Jocelynn, usually tags along with me to massages as my helper/photographer. However, we all know it’s just so she can meet and pet new cute animals along the way 😅 The little still thinks he can hover around my butt while I massage so he doesn’t get to come much.
I’ve owned horses since I was 7 but have rode and been around them since I was a toddler. I got on any and every horse I could growing up which was probably well over 100 different horses by the time I was a teenager! I participated in youth rodeo at Rocky Fork for 14 years, I was a trail guide for multiple years, an active 4-H member and I am currently an advisor for our county and VP of our county 4-H Horse Council. We currently have 3 of our own horses who you’ll see on here a lot! Two of which are my daughter’s contest mounts, Diva and Ace, as well as my sweet “threenager” Minnie… 🤪
Never be scared to shoot me a message related to your horse! If I don’t know something right off hand then I will research it to give you the best knowledge I can. I love knowing prior to coming what is going on so I come better prepared to help the most I can at each session!
Thank you for your time and support! I appreciate you all, even if you just interacted because you love seeing horses healing ❤️ I hope to see you guys soon to get those ponies of yours feeling their best! 💜🐴💜 -Tegan

Minnie just enjoying her red light therapy treatment after she got her feet’s done, a spa day if you will 🩷

Her main issue is intermittent haltering issues that we believe is due to pain in the TMJ joint on the left and some hyoid issues as well. She goes to show that even if you live with the massage therapist, it still can’t always be fixed like magic! They have to go through the steps to recovery just like if we had to go to therapy of any kind.

🐴Side tail pulls🐴

This exercise is helpful in the way it stimulates the pelvic stabilizer muscles and engages the core. It is used for strengthening the quadriceps muscles which surround the stifles on either side. Locking/stiff stifles can be caused by underdeveloped quads so let’s strengthen them!

This exercise can be easily preformed on horses including those on stall rest (per your vet’s recommendation).

Be mindful before preforming this that they are animals, stay alert and don’t get either of you hurt!

To preform this pull. Grasp the tail firmly near the base of the tail bone. Stand facing your horses hip, have them stand square to start (they will likely move around the first few times) and pull straight out to the side gently as seen below. When done correctly you will see the quads engage or flex near and around the stifle area. Pull gently till you feel resistance/see engagement and hold for 5-8 seconds then repeat up to 5xs per side to start and work up to 8-10 pulls per side at 10-30 seconds per pull. Start slow and within time the horse will be able to stay square and hold longer. This exercise is ment to be worked up gradually. If you can only get 1-2 pulls at 5 seconds each the first few times that is perfectly normal, especially in a sore horse! Just remember, do both sides of the horse equally and it’s easier to start on the less sore side if you have one.

This exercise can be used indefinitely and is a great tool to have ❤️

Bringing back the blood supply so the muscles can repair themselves is what I specialize in.
Aside from the marked spot of atrophy in the first photo he was also closed up, holding in his pecks very tight and tight over all up through his shoulders. Sometimes it doesn’t take much to fix but you’ve got to know what needs fixing 🫶🏻

❤️ Red light therapy ❤️
It has such a long list of benefits for before and after exercise or just for maintenance!
This filly has struggled with on and off stifle locking since she was a yearling. A mix of poor diet in her first year along with growth spurts will occasionally cause her patella’s to get stuck or “catch” so I’ve started red light therapy for maintenance because of it’s beneficial properties that include but aren’t limited to:
•reducing inflammation
•repairing damaged tissue
(Skin, tendons, ligaments, muscles and even bones)
•muscle recovery
•pain relief
•improve circulation

If requested I can bring this red light pad with me to your sessions for spot treatments at an additional $10 plus your massage fee. I also have a hand held red light wand you can spot treat with while I work if you so choose!

03/26/2024

Here I’m using my hand cupped above the top teeth to activate the GV26 acupressure point which in this case I’m using it to help her TMJ issues but it has a grocery list of helpful aids!

You only have to be in contact with the point for a few seconds, however I also allow the horse to push on me and release their jaw for as long as they’d like.

This point can also be referred to as the “life line” because it is used to block adrenaline, producing a calming effect. It has been proven helpful in situations of seizures, promoting resuscitation and helping in cardiac arrest cases.

I use it in my face routine because it can help with the below listed problems.

•facial swelling/paralysis
•mouth and gum issues
•nasal infections
•TMJ
•fright/panic
•acute lumbar pain/benefits the lumbar spine
•can cause a cooling effect (help with heat stroke)
•clears the senses
•calms

Enjoy while Minnie enjoys her session 🩷
