Pet Posse wants everyone to be vigilant this holiday season. The cities of Port Angeles and Sequim have NO animal control. Clallam County has ONE person. Shelters are all full. There is nowhere to take an animal if found. We beg you all to keep your pets safe. Please have collars with ID on all pets. At least if you have ID on your pet, we can call you to get your pet home. Tragically, just last week, tourists found a dog in the woods and, because all shelters were full, had to leave the dog where they found it. It breaks our hearts. New Years Eve is coming with fireworks and gunshots, which terrifies all animals. This and 4th of July are our worst time of year, and we do the best we can. And if your animals run away, chances are you won’t get them back. Please be responsible. Your pets depend on you to keep them safe.

For many families ready to adopt a dog or cat, the search starts on Petfinder, an online platform that lists adoptable pets from shelters and rescues nationwide.

But several Houston-area rescue groups say a recent change to Petfinder’s search filters is making their animals harder to find and is already cutting into adoptions.
