What do you do when you are new to town? Well, if you are a Malinois puppy, you head over to the town hall and meet the Chief of Police. Say hello to Birdie, a foster through MAD Rescue who will be with us for a couple weeks before moving onto her forever home.

Charlie goes home in a few days. When he first arrived he was a blank slate - he didn't know any cues. While he has been here we have worked on:

* sit
* down
* name (as attention cue)
* kennel
* look
* clicker training
* confidence building with new places and situations
* confidence building with meeting new people (including socialization with children)
* confidence building with meeting new dogs
* come when called (on leash and off leash)
* wait at doors
* go to place/bed
* sit stay
* down stay
* grooming and handling skills (including positive experiences with baths, brushing and nail trims)
* loose leash walking
* off (not jumping up)
* sit for please (sit to ask for things)
* quiet
* drop it
* leave it

Charlie is still a baby and training isn't a one-and-done thing, so he's still progressing. That said, he has come a long way and worked very hard! He's leaving with a lot of great new experiences and a big foundation of skills under his belt. Good job, Charlie!

A great stepping stone.

*Please note, using this muzzle will not prevent a bite. It is to aid in the muzzle training process*

Here is a great example of the "false muzzle". The front of the muzzle is cut off to allow easier/quicker treat delivery, or even fetch/tug/toy play; this can really help with the desensitization process for some dogs. This is a GREAT stepping stone towards your end goal of your dog being able to happily wear their muzzle while out in the world.

We now have an in-house massage therapist on staff! Just kidding (though that would be great...), this is Maui, starting his board & train program. Maui is very sweet, but his tendency to paw at people is rough for the small kids in his home, so that's something we will be working on.
