Is your dog shedding like there's no tomorrow? Our latest video dives into the essential grooming technique of deshedding, designed especially for double-coated dogs or heavy shedders. Standard brushes and combs often miss the mark by only targeting the outer coat. But deshedding tools go deeper, effectively removing loose hair trapped in the undercoat.
The benefits are huge. Deshedding helps keep your dog cool in warmer months by boosting air circulation through the coat. It prevents matting, so you won't have to resort to shaving, and keeps your dog's coat looking great. Plus, it seriously cuts down on the hair you find all over your home.
Regular deshedding can also stop skin conditions caused by trapped hair and debris. It aids in temperature control, protecting your dog from both heat and cold. Breeds like German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, and Huskies get the most out of deshedding, but it also works wonders for short-haired breeds like Pit Bulls, Hounds, Beagles, and Jack Russells.
In short, deshedding is a must for maintaining your dog's coat and overall well-being. It makes a big difference in managing shedding and keeping your home cleaner. Don't miss out on this game-changing grooming technique!

Aussies, or Australian Shepherds, have a double coat. Their coat consists of two layers:
Undercoat: This is the softer, denser layer close to the skin. It's designed to keep the dog warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather.
Topcoat (or outer coat): This is the longer, coarser layer of hair that you see on the surface. It helps repel water and protects the dog from the elements.
This double coat structure is common in many working and herding breeds. It's part of what gives Aussies their fluffy, full appearance. It also contributes to their significant shedding, especially during seasonal changes so regular grooming is crucial to maintain the health of both coat layers and manage shedding.
Learn More About Your Doodle Program
Whether you have a Labradoodle, Goldendoodle, Aussiedoodle, Bernedoodle, Cavapoo, Maltipoo, Cockapoo, Sheepadoodle, or Poodle, those beautiful coats need all of our help to maintain them. As these doodle mixes have continued to develop, we see so many differences in coat characteristics. You and your neighbor may have the same exact dog, but VERY different coats.
Our method for grooming by time is so important for these breeds. Other factors in time are your pet’s behavior for the grooming process, how much brushing you do at home, the length you are keeping your dog’s coat, as well as you and your dog’s lifestyle.
Does your dog go to doggie daycare, swim, or a weekly doodle romp? More than likely, they are a harder coat to maintain. Add to that, if you like to keep it long and/or you don’t do much brushing. No judgment, but to keep that coat, we have to groom on a very regular schedule.
We have found that the only way to maintain these coats is to develop a program that we require all Doodle clients to commit to upholding. We will work with you to devise a plan that takes all of these factors into account to develop a specialized plan just for you and your Doodle.
