Rabbits are funny, cute, smart pets that become part of the family! We recommend vet visits starting when you adopt them; it is important to get the most accurate information on how to keep your new pet healthy! After that check-ups are every 6 months. Their teeth are always growing, so it’s important to get them checked routinely.
What should you expect when bringing your rabbit in for a check up?
One of the nurses will bring you into an exam room, then get a weight and full history on your pet. This includes questions like- What do they eat? Are they free roam? What do you use for litter? All Creatures has a caring team of nurses that are very knowledgeable about rabbit husbandry and care. They know how to safely restrain your pet for their exam while keeping the visit as low stress as possible. Dr. Scavola will complete an ears-to-tail exam that includes many things - especially looking at your rabbit’s molars (yes, they have back teeth!). She will discuss next steps whether that be recommending tests or a plan to see you back in 6 months! Any and all questions are welcome at your visit whether it be to your nurse or the doctor. We are here to help make sure your bunny stays in the best health possible!
Did you know spaying a rabbit is just as important as spaying a dog? This can be done at 6 months of age and is very important for their health. Bunnies also get vaccinated just like dogs! In all aspects of medicine we treat our rabbit patients just like our canine patients. Since they live just as long (8-12+ years), and we love them just as much, we believe they should be treated with the same standard of care. All Creatures offers services for rabbits such as blood work, radiographs, ultrasound, surgery, teeth trims, vaccines, nails trims and much more!
