Welcome Thor to Board & Train! Thor’s journey started off rough—he was found behind a tree after sanitation workers received a report about a dog carcass in the park. But when they arrived, they discovered he was alive! At just four months old, he was scared, sick, and battling Parvo. Thankfully, an amazing group of softball players rescued him, and one of them gave him the love and care he needed to pull through. ❤️ Because of his tough start and lots of well-deserved pampering while he was recovering, Thor missed out on some key socialization. Now, he’s a bit unsure of the world, nervous around new people, and barks a lot at home without settling. His mom wants him to feel confident and be able to enjoy life—especially going with her to all her softball games—without stress! That’s where balanced training comes in! We’ll help Thor build confidence, learn how to navigate the world calmly, and develop the skills he needs to thrive. Today was his first full day, and while he’s definitely a nervous guy, we already discovered something he loves—the hose! He had a blast, but we’ll also be teaching him how to enjoy things without becoming obsessed. Excited to see this boy grow into his best self over the next three weeks! Crate enrichment idea! 🐶✨ Lick mats are a game changer for the pups! They help with anxiety, provide mental enrichment, slow down fast eaters, and make crate time a positive experience. These lick mats attach to the side of most crates—Peaches is in a standard wired crate, and Burrito (who’s available for adoption through @sjras_vineland ) is in an Impact crate. They stay on tightly, so the dogs can’t just rip them up when they’re done! Plus, they’re super easy to clean—just toss them in the dishwasher! For this round, I made a snack with bananas, blueberries, and peanut butter, then froze them for extra challenge and enjoyment! 🫐🍌🥜 Now, while I rotate the other dogs, Burrito is happily enjoying his downtime. So we might have a good case scenario here (yesterday and this morning I was not so optimistic) her results came back as an abscess. This is still all confusing and I’ve never seen something like this between symptoms and acting etc…. We are back at Northstar where she might stay a day or two for antibiotics and some other things. But here is the estimate. The amount we raised covered the appt and testing the other night but still need to try and raise some more. @sjras_vineland has been so great with support and also has a fundraiser going. Exciting news! Meet Nola, a sweet 5-month-old rescue Greyhound who’s here for a three-week boot camp! Her mom already has a Greyhound, and when I saw Nola’s rescue post, I knew they’d be a perfect match. Nola was adopted at 10 weeks but faced some serious parasite issues, which delayed her training and socialization. After months of hard work and care from her dedicated mom, she’s now healthy and ready to learn! After just one day, she’s already walking beautifully, and I can’t wait to see her progress over the next few weeks. I’ve been getting so many apps on Burrito, (hopefully by one of them is his forever home) let’s see if we can get word out about adorable Peaches! Available through @sjras_vineland Here is a little about her if you would like to share! Meet Peaches, a charming almost 4-year-old Shar Pei and French Bulldog mix weighing 35 pounds. Peaches is a bundle of pure love who adores her humans and revels in their attention. This playful girl can entertain herself for hours with her toys and has made incredible strides in socializing with other dogs. Though she enjoys running with them, she prefers not to engage in play. She’s also great with cats! Peaches is initially shy, but once she warms up to you, she will love you forever. She dreams of cuddling up on the couch with you or going for long walks. While she isn’t a fan of the vet, she has improved a lot in foster care. Peaches rides well in the car, walks nicely on a leash, and is both crate and potty trained. If you’re looking for a loving companion who will be loyal and affectionate, Peaches would make a wonderful addition to your household.

Please reach out if you need anything, and I’ll get back to you ASAP. I’m excited to introduce Miss Cali, our newest member of the Board and Train program! Cali has been with us for two weeks and has a bit over a week to go. She’s around 6-7 years old and was adopted four years ago. Her family recently had a baby, and now that the baby is a toddler and mobile, Cali is too nervous to safely be around him. While she’s a sweetheart, little ones and her just do not mix. Instead of just getting rid of her, Cali’s owners are dedicated to helping her build confidence and get the training she needs to find the best home. Cali is a medium-sized dog who loves walks, hikes, and is now getting collar trained. If you’re looking for a chill, loving companion, Miss Cali might be the perfect fit for you! At our Board and Train program, we currently have three high-energy dogs: JJ, a Puggle puppy; Honey, a terrier mix; and Sir Walter, a Rottweiler mix. We’re focusing on teaching them the importance of being calm and still, and addressing any anxieties they might have. Remember, sometimes doing nothing is actually doing something! The “place” command is a wonderful tool for helping dogs learn to relax. We often see dogs being rehomed because they have too much energy and their owners can’t keep up. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Sometimes, it’s as simple as teaching your dog to relax.
