Consistency…

An important life skill to have. It helps develop good habits and keeps us focused on our goals. It also helps us become more productive and reliable. Consistency is often compared to momentum — The more consistent you are, the more momentum you build up.

So, what does consistency and horses have in common? Consistency is a MAJOR component in horse training… Keeping your cues, and routines consistent is important. It makes it easier for the horse to understand what we are asking. Therefore, communication with the horse is consistent. In return, for the horse we are predictable and easy to understand. It also helps us understand and predict the horses reactions.

What is Before The Saddle?

I started Before The Saddle because I wanted everyone to have an opportunity to experience horses in their own way. If you have never been around horses OR have horses and want to enhance your relationship— Before The Saddle has opportunities for you. In addition to learning about horses, they help us learn a lot about ourselves and life skills.

As we go into 2024, we have a few openings. If you are ready to try something new, or want to grow your relationship with your horse — Before The Saddle is excited to have you!

Energetic Diffusion. . .
Working in a round pen can keep us close enough to establish flow with the horse while we send and receive energies. As we work on isolating the two opposite forces, we develop an energetic feel for the balance point in between. Along with the varying degrees of connection.

Energetic Connection. . .
As we become better at communicating with the horses, our feel becomes more refined. Horses co-regulate us through the experience, helping us keep the connection. Horses are sensitive to energetic imbalances, we can use changes in energy to teach them. Our release in response to a specific behavior from our horse is what teaches them, everything from eye contact to muscle tension.

I have a few openings available! Please message the page to book!

Personal development and Horsemanship…

During groundwork, you learn how to communicate with the horse using body language.

Being prey animals, they are tuned to pick up on the smallest emotional and energetic signals. Making the horsemanship part not only very important for the horse, but for us too — Learning that your body language can affect your relationships and/or environment, good or bad.

Did you know horses and help humans develop mentally?

Bonding — Creating a relationship with an animal can help people feel more secure or confident about opening up to other people.

Trust — Developing the ability to trust is essential to emotional development. With horses as your relationship gets stronger, riders put more trust in their horse and can relax and enjoy their experiences.

Non verbal communication — Horses use a lot of non-verbal signals and noises to communicate. They’ll also pay attention to body language, facial expressions and movements to understand people.

Confidence — As individuals learn how to interact with a horse, confidence is a crucial factor. Not only do they need to be assertive with directions, but they also have to get past the tendency to hesitate or doubt decisions.

Did you know horses look for leadership?

You can’t force them to cooperate. Learning to be less passive by becoming a leader is essential when working with horses. They can also sense when a person is too aggressive. That can result in them becoming tense and restless.

Like in all aspects in our life, a good leader is not authoritative. They are good listeners, who are willing to be patient and build the relationship.
