Tessa's first bird session this weekend.
Kate showing the pups how it's done.
I had an amazing opportunity yesterday while mearn's hunting. I had already shot a big male and decided to video the next covey find and just let Elizabeth and her dad shoot. She thought there was only one female and was apprehensive about shooting it. The first three that flew were females, then you hear me yell "get him" as a male flew up, then a few more flew up (8 birds total). This late in the season we try to only shoot males if possible.
I had just enough time after work to get some training done in the new blind. Bailey is doing great and really didnt take long to get the hang of using the ramp I built for her. I think we're ready for duck season.
One of my favorite videos from our CA trip. Bird hunting has taken us to some of the most beautiful places in the U.S. We always end up with a lot of window time and enjoy every second of it, especially when we hit the dirt roads.
At 2.5 weeks old, these pups are adorable.
Without any wind, we might as well have been training in a sauna. Hank didn't mind too much.
This video shows exactly where Lilly is at in her training. She starts off false pointing in a location we frequently train her. That's her way of saying "come on guys, it's time to find a new training spot on the preserve." She then starts working confidently and quickly to find the bird. She shows us that she is getting the hang of working into the wind and using it to her advantage. Finally, she shows us where she is at on her steadiness. She understands the meaning of whoa, and even knows that she is supposed to point when she catches scent, but still isnt broke of her urge to run up the bird. This is an excellent video to learn and observe.
When you've been at the lake all day, but still have dog work to do, sometimes you just have to train in your flamingo trunks.... Still had my Upland Obsession hat handy though. Here you can see Lilly is starting to get a lot more confident in her run and search.
We're getting a little training in tonight between rain showers. This is Lilly, our 7 month old setter. A slight breeze helped her knock this 25 yard point out of the park. We still have a little work to do with pointing at first detection of scent, but we'll get there.
Bailey gets better each time and has a load of fun doing it.
