I was given the most amazing opportunity by two woman I think very highly of. Thieving Otter Farms Rebecca Lynch and Southern Biophilliac Urban Farms Lea Kulas allowed me to design the logo for their new YouTube Collaboration! These ladies are extremely knowledgeable in all things quail! I'm very excited to see what they can do and encourage you all to tune in and support their new endeavor!

Well my personal account is in Jail. 🤣 Can someone answer me why I can't say, "We are in (location) please message me with any questions?" How is that breaking any community standards? Granted it was someone asking about quail I replied to....but what in the heck...

Well all the sweet buns found homes but ended up bringing 16 Roos back home from the swap. So we will be having quail dinners for a while 🤣 Here is your friendly reminder to always quarantine, or cull birds that you bring back from anywhere even if you try your best to limit exposure, any exposure is a risk.

8 Lionlops just turned 8 weeks old. Very sweet and will make wonderful pets since they have been handled by 3 little girls daily. Not asking much. They have been wormed, and provided flea and tick treatment. 1 little seal point, 2 blue, 1 orange and several orange and whites.

So what's the problem with Celadon egg shells? I have had this question a lot. The group I started out with had fantastic shells. I've got two hens right now headed off to other lands because of shell problems. As long as you are diligent through selection and don't further it in your lines you should be hunky dory. 🙂 I've had the same thing happen in my Shofield Silvers. It's not just celadons who can throw weak shells. DON'T PROLIFERATE BAD BIRDS and you will be okay. The excuse that, "awe, this one is so pretty though," leads to a whole line of birds with that one flaw you neglected. Keep them as a pet sure, but don't make the mistake of ruining your covey for a little color.

So wanted to pick everyone's brain today. I typically try to buy from from small breeders but having problems finding the chicken breed I want in the area. What is everyone's experience with Cackle Hatchery? I've bought from them one time and didn't have a good experience. Was it a fluke?

Here is another question I get often. Why did you choose quail over chickens? Well there were a few reasons. They are a quick maturing bird so turnover goes much faster. I can have a laying hen, or a meal within 8 weeks. With three daughters, one quail is a great meal for them with no waste. The eggs are small enough to be a great snack for them. They require less room, and our animals love them to. The Micro Squirrels benefit from the eggs, snakes get the culled chicks, dogs get the unusable bits. Chickens take far longer to mature, you need more space and I could have 4 generations of quail in the time it takes one chicken to mature. Plus, quail chicks are just cuter 🤣

Had to quickly throw a board over him for protection and wrangle all three dogs in. Aurora, who instigated it all, had to physically be picked up and carried away. (60 lb Husky) The entire time she was wailing to be let go to finish the job of burying the opposum while kicking and smacking me in the face. Finally got the little guy out and on his way even though he was less than happy for the rescue and made it clear by jumping at me and hissing one more time. Bad things come in threes right? Still waiting on that last pin to drop for tonight.

I get a lot of questions about letting quail free range with your chickens. So here is my experience, and expertise on it. Just don't do it. It really isn't worth the risk. God bless the little potatoes they just don't have the brain capacity to associate a coop with "Home." They will wander and they will get eaten. Every predator in your area will notice a fat round bird that can only fly about a foot. Rats, snakes, cats, owls and hawks, are all prevalent in urban areas and can go undetected pretty easily. The list of predators on these guys is endless, and once they get a taste they will be back for the rest of your covey. Play it safe if you want to give grazing opportunities get them a chicken tractor, predator-proof it, and move it regularly.
