Variegated/DWS kiddos!!! I put boxes in all the baby bins and hoping that the incident with Oreo doesn't happen again. Oreo was my male rattie that hung himself in a small hole chewed in the box. They are using them hehe!! There are a couple younger kiddos so in the 1st pic the one in front is smaller cuz it's younger than the others!! I think they're so cute hiding in the corner!! 🥰

Didn't get sleep last night n sure i'll be up half the nite tonight cuz I'm not even tired. Happens when things change in my life...something I'm used to. Something good for a change...glad I have this person back in my life!! Mice pixs I'll get tomorrow and rats I'll do over the weekend...will edit when i'm done with them n have them up hopefully mid next week!! Mice will be sent after pixs are taken!!

Males not getting along come from a HA (hormonal aggression) line. Males should get along fine when bred properly. This is how misinformation gets around n some will believe it.
I'm glad to say I have weeded out the HA ( hormonal aggression) n MA ( maternal aggression) lines in my rattery!! Yes it is a possibility down the road a rat will go against the rat law,but if that happens at any time I will properly take care of the trouble individual!!

I don't make this post lightly, but I saw this earlier and it literally made me facepalm, because it's frankly idiotic from a behavioural standpoint.

Allowing bucks to be so studbucky in behaviour that they can't accept other rats as adults is just bizarre, and this unfortunately will result in lone rats, surely? Not everybody can source or create instant kittens, so they will unfortunately be alone, maybe for months, which isn't okay because rats are a SOCIAL SPECIES that thrive on the companionship of other rats.

I don't care if Marti comes after me again.
I'm really concerned that if this catches on (which it might), we are going to have a really big issue with rats suffering alone for possibly MONTHS whilst waiting for kittens.

There's also the issue that those lone periods can/will cause psychological damage in some rats....and guess what? That could then cause issues with intros to kittens. So what do you do then? Euthanise? Re-home? Keep alone? All this is entirely avoidable.

This just isn't okay.

We should be breeding for more adaptable behaviour in our rats, not more selectivity, rigidity and problematic behaviour.

What she is proposing, isn't even a 'rule' in wild rats, we have 150+ years of rat behavioural studies to show it's not true. Where on earth has this come from? It's certainly not evidence based, that's for sure.

This is a genuinely dangerous statement to make.

Some of my holdbacks as of right now will be available as I am not keeping too many past what I just paired!! Males I think I only have 2 I'm keeping and females are 4/5 I'm keeping so the ones i'm not keeping I will take pics of soon!!

Quite a few pairings put together tonight!!

Silvermane RB male is paired with 2 females...this is only till the girls are showing!!

Agouti dwarf carrier paired with 2 dwarf carrier females...might only be temporary!!

Chocolate harley silvermane paired with a harley female and a double velveteen female!!

White harley paired with 2 dumbo RB females!!

Russian blue dumbo paired with a RB female and standard marble female!!

2 prego females have been removed from breeding bins to have their last litters...more will be removed at a later date when kiddos are old enough.

So I was wondering what I was going to get when I paired the marble boy with the white cotton ball and what I thought was a black marten based rat!!! To my surprise the black rat is a marten tonkinese I noticed last night cleaning them...she is a dark tonk and at the time I paired her she almost looked black!! The lighter babies all seem to have the tabby line interested to see how they turn out!! Can't wait to watch these cuties grow!! 🥰😍😍
