Sometimes, the kindest thing to do is a dignified departure. When so many educated hands have tried to save them and they still show pain, fear, and confusion. Oftentimes, hurting us or themselves. The last gift we can give them is departure in the most loving and dignified way they will allow us.
We peeled back Ima's layers one by one. We hoped that allowing her treatment and recovery would help her. While she has had very peaceful moments with us and looks okay. We can't turn a blind eye to the emotional trauma and chronic pain she endured.
A little about her... We got her from the auction pipeline in February 2023. She was worried, almost uncontrollable, absolutely terrified of everything, especially, the horse trailer. We were grateful that she came with registration papers that allowed us to piece together some iota of history so that we can help her. We learned that she was a show horse from the time she could stand. She was shown in Halter until age 2 years. And broke to saddle for trail riding by age 3. She was then given a seemingly wonderful life with her human mom, who trail rode her until her body started breaking down by the age of 8, she was on and off lame, began to have unpredictable behavior changes, and developed a fear of the trailer. To her, the trailer meant riding, riding meant pain that she could not escape. Her behavior got worse, and her owner gave up. She was sent to the auction. She ended up with a horse trader who saw her pain and rested her for a couple of months. With little improvement, she found herself back at another auction. This time she met us. We gave her time, nutrition, medicine, massages and body work, vet care, farrier care, and more time. She went to the most patient foster mom, who set her up for the most success. Despite all this, her behavior never became consistent. There were so many close calls of putting herself and her humans in danger.
We tried for you,
Ima Chocolatediamond. We saw you, and we ultimately saved you. Even if it's not in the way we intended. Rest peacefully sweet girl. We will learn from you to help the next ❤️🐴
If you would like to help with her associated costs, donations can be made in her honor and are greatly appreciated.
