Guys!!!! Remember these look fun and tasty but just say no!!!

Please do not buy. Throw them away if your dog gets one as a gift. Giving rawhide to a dog is never a good idea.

Many of these so called treats end up with the dog “enjoying” some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas. The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China.

The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulfide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white “pure” look and remove the rancid smell.

Now comes the pretty festive colors and the glue to form cute shapes. On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.

If that wasn’t bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog.

It is with an utterly shattered heart that we share with you of the passing of our dearly beloved mystic aka

Shortly before noon we rushed Pumba to the veterinary hospital at the very first warning signs of distress. Despite our efforts he passed away shortly after arriving.

We are simply shattered with grief at this moment. We did everything right, everything we possibly could but it wasn’t enough to save him. He had the best food, the best bed in the very best room in the house (next to my dad every night). We gave him the best supplements and took him to the best doctors and still we lost our best friend.

In our little haven he was the King and we loved and adored him. He wasn’t just a “good boy” he was the BEST boy. He was a wonderful companion for dad, the two of them were inseparable and it is so hard to say goodbye. He will reign in our hearts as King of the Canines forever.

According to the autopsy report Pumba passed due to Gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV)

So what is Gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) you may wonder.

According to Veterinary Medical Center
of Central New York website their page on GDV, Gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) is a serious condition and is fatal if left untreated. Commonly referred to as "bloat," GDV occurs when a dog's stomach fills with gas, food, or fluid and subsequently twists. GDV develops without warning and can progress quickly. It is always an emergency.

Know the Signs! Go on their website for more information…

About us

Poodles Of Willow Glade is a family owned small breeding program. We believe in the integrity of our dogs’ well-being. We have seven acres with a small pond and creeks to discover. We have oak, pecan and cedar trees that grow throughout the many trails we have created to run and have adventures with the kids. We are a native family and believe in taking care of our animals and nature alike. Our dogs are family pets. Poodles of Willow Glade believe that the first step of happy healthy puppies is happy healthy parents.

We are a real family with real lives. We are not always photo ready. We are some times dirty and our hair in messy buns. So is our dogs, they are real dogs with real dogs lives. They don’t always look like they just stepped out of the grooming salon. But we are all fed well, taken care of and happy and that is what is most important.
