Don’t make the same mistake I made this year! Invest in a quality potting mix—it makes a huge difference! 🌱
Do you compost at home? If not—you should start 😄 It is one small way you can lessen your impact on the 🌎 , and it gives your waste a new life that can benefit your garden. You can compost anywhere—even in an apartment (vermicomposting, anyone?) You don’t need a fancy tumbler, it can be as simple as a pile outside. Here’s our process: a 5 gallon bucket lined with a paper bag under our kitchen sink that all of our compost-friendly food scraps go into (coffee grounds, eggs shells, fruit and veggie scraps) then we empty the bucket into a pile in the backyard and layer it with things like cardboard, straw, dead leaves, and mulch (carbon/browns). You should aim for a 30:1 ration of you carbon(browns) to nitrogen(greens) for optimal results but I am certain our ratio is far from that and we still get great results (ie: this isn’t rocket science!) The more you turn your compost pile, the more aerobic activity and the faster it breaks down. We are in no hurry to finish ours, so we go the lazy route of turning about once a year 😬🤣 Once the compost is fully broken down into a dark rich humus, we spread it over the garden and let it sit a few months and then plant in it. You can also make a compost tea for your indoor house plants 👌🏼 Compost nourishes the soil, and healthy living soil is the key to vibrant plants 🌱 If you don’t want to compost at home, you can also pay a small fee for a composting service.
