I forgot to post pics ! Zebra, our Toggenburg mama, gave birth to 2 healthy babies ! One boy ( with the Togg stripe facial markings) and one girl, ( the darker one.) Both eating like champs and are doing great! (Kids are from Zebra , full togg, and Bruno- black Nigerian dwarf buck)

The kiddos have been gifted the cutest little stuffed goatie, " Gus," from grandma and gramps in Florida. Gus and Jax have become BFF's!

How cool is this piece of art created by our daughter ?? This is a portrait of one of her favorite little goats, "Flash," using colored pencils and watercolors. I love it ! I can't wait to see it in real life, when it comes home from art class :)

We tried something new today, since moving to the Carolinas! How much fun! We can't wait to attend another Oyster roast! Plus listen to great music, and come back and pick some flowers! Thanks Saltwater Markets , Tim Childers , and Five Blossoms Farm !

So, I've never actually measured this before, but this is our total food waste for a little less than 48 hous for 5 of us, but of our family of 8! This is only dinner , plus whatever I grab from the trash after the kids are running to the school bus at 645am, usually banana peels. I usually chuck random odds and ends over the fence for the chickens who come running each morning, but decided to keep a day or so's worth just to see . 2 days . 10 + pounds just of food ! ( I had to tilt the scale to get a photo.) 2 pounds per person in this house. Just imagine how much more you could compost of paper products, alone.. outside mostly go to the animals , but also in turn make a great addition to the garden and future food supply. I'm just flabbergasted at how much is actually used daily in our house, and how many others that do not save their left over scraps for some kind of use. I'm glad our chickies and goats , plus the garden benefit from all of this.

We have several dozen chicken and duck eggs available . Shoot us a pm ! The birds free range sun up to sun down, gobbling up an assortment of nutrients from earth, producing beautiful, dark yellow-orange yolks. The Huge duck eggs and xl chicken eggs are great for baking or eating. Chicks available in one week!

These pretty girls have a new home over here at Vogel Papas Hühnerstall . We will wait awhile before making introductions to the other goaties. They were the best travel buddies. Only pooped over the seat once onto Jaxson! Lol

This week's eggs ... and it is only Tuesday! ( I'm not a photographer, obviously- but the blue, green, browns ,and speckles are way prettier in real life !) We have limited dozens of hatching eggs available now , and taking pre-orders for Valentine's day old chicks! Most of these beauties were babies from Alchemist Farm in California this past spring and are pumping out tons of beautiful colored, large eggs. ( Moss/ Sage/ Alchemist Blue, and more.) Offspring from these will give you an awesome assortment of blues/ greens and various shades of browns! ( the large whites are from our ducks ..) We also have bantam eggs / chicks as pre- orders, as well . Pm us for more details :) We are going to pop these in the incubator, so let us know if you're near Shelby, NC, and would like some! ( all colors not pictured...Kids eat the prettiest ones each day! )

I can’t get enough…

…of the group of local grandfathers that come to the soda fountain nearly every day for coffee.

…of the weathered 80-year olds who sit tall in the saddle and still put in a full day’s work.

…of the wise ranch wives who’ve forgotten more about cattle and feeding crews and prairie life than I’ll ever know.

…of our neighbors who can rattle off the list of former owners of every piece of property in a 50-mile radius.

…of the ones who loved and nurtured this land decades before I was born.

I hope I’m just like them someday.

Holy Moly ! I quit and gave up for today ... but these 2 sinks plus a few baskets are full to the brim. I can't believe that our garden is still producing this much food well into October , here in NC ! This is our 1st fall here growing things. Now to get the energy to can it all ! Not sure , yet what to make ! Thinking tomato jam with the FL everglades.. ( tiny ones hiding..)
Maybe a salsa but we don't have any hot peppers right now... hmm....

A little bit of this week's harvest. The summer garden is still going strong! So far we have canned tomato sauce, Quail, trout, and lots of pickled veggies! What's next ?? Share your favorite recipes please ! Tonight is candied jalapeño night - and maybe shred the squash to freeze.. We love to make squash pancakes ! Yum!
