People ask me all the time how I get clients to accept my associates. But when your associates are putting work like this on the ground, clients notice, and they don’t question. So… let me take a moment to brag on one of Bluegrass Horseshoeing’s newer associates, Angel.
Angel worked for me briefly a number of years ago, but had to leave and take care of some family obligations. He came back to the Bluegrass team a number of years later and has been an integral part of our team for the last two years.
Today, we were working on horses side-by-side in the shedrow. He walked out to the truck, and I assumed it was just to get a different shoe. After a bit, he came back with this shoe and nailed it on.

I can’t express how proud of him I am! Some may say, “Well, it’s not a handmade,” but it’s an exceptionally well fabricated and well fit shoe that was exactly what was needed to get the job done. While Angel has been practicing and is a forging machine he knows that his fit at the moment is better with a pre-manufactured shoe. He’s not going to compromise the foot or the horse to push something that he knows he’s not ready for.

In the end, it was a job well done. He recognized what the foot needed, he fabricated the solution, and he fit it up beautifully. We don’t do a lot of shoving at Bluegrass Horseshoeing, but we do a lot of pushing… pushing ourselves to get better pushes the entire team to get better.

Modifications added to help hold the toe of the foot from sinking too deep into soft footing, relieving stress on the suspensory ligament.

Adam and Angel are getting this horse ready to head to California for the 40th running of the Breeders' Cup World Championships.

Our team is fortunate enough to work around many amazing horses and we are excited to have a strong contingent heading to Santa Anita Park. Good luck to everyone competing and safe travels to everybody heading to California.

It was one amazing weekend! I was fortunate to be asked to serve as the clinician for the Rocky Mountain Horseshoeing Association and had an awesome time in Colorado. We spent the first day in the classroom discussing the business side of the farrier industry and the second day working on a horse and ways to improve efficiency while working. The RMHA is an extremely good organization and I can’t wait to see what they are doing in the future! A huge thank you to Victory Racing Plates and Oleo Acres for their sponsorship of the clinic!

I was also able to sneak in a few days of fishing on the amazing Gunnison River!
