Happy Boxing Day 🦔🐾🐾

Another ‘look back’ ..

Elder..

Elder was desperately ill when he arrived. He was found in a gutte, was covered in hundreds of ticks, emaciated and had multiple parasites and pneumonia 🥹

It took months to get Elder to better health, although he does now have scarring to his lungs ..

Elder is not a young hedgehog and so we made the decision to let him live his best life with one of our volunteers, in her large secure garden 💙🦔

Meet Nicholas ..

Nicholas was brought into rescue yesterday, from Crossland Moor. He had been seen out on the day a number of times over the past couple of weeks, but yesterday morning, he was on the lawn .. Thankfully, his lovely finder picked him up and sought help…

This little boy has been struggling for a while, he only weighs a little over 300g and he has lost his back leg…he also has a bad infestation of mites..

He is in one of our incubators, is on pain relief, antibiotics and treatment for the mites ..

I kept seeing these Christmas cards on our newsfeed and everytime I saw them they would make me smile! They are adorable!
They have been made by Shelley Hedgehogs 🦔
At the beginning of the week there was only one packet left so I asked if they could at all be posted to me as I just love them 🥰
The wonderful Mel sent me a lovely message saying of course she would and that they were a gift from her rescue to ours 💕💕
How wonderful is that?!
Such lovely people in the hedgehog world and so nice when we all do things for each other even the smallest of things ❤️
Has really made me smile as I’ve been floored with the flu all week.
I will be framing one to hang in my house 🤗

Look at this beautiful girl…Rose 🦔

This little girl (Rose) is the returning hedgehog that I posted about, a few weeks ago ..

She is microchipped and was found in his release garden, in Ossett, with a nasty head wound .. Thankfully the wound is looking nice and clean and no more infection.. She also weighs 624g and so is getting back to a good weight 🦔💙

She will be with us until the wound is fully healed, which is likely to be a few more weeks ..🦔

Happy Saturday everyone … ❄️

Some of our hoggies are now snoozing away in the cold hut. We do keep a close eye on them overwinter, we weigh them once a week and record their weight, if the weight loss is more than it should be, then we do VERY slowly wake them from hibernation… Thankfully, we don’t have to do this very often 🦔❄️🦔❄️

This is one of our ‘wide awake’ hedgehogs, from Barnsley … All medications finished yesterday, now just some fattening up to do 🦔

Morning everyone

A quick update from here…

We still have a lot of hedgehogs in rescue, many of which are getting up to release weight and have finished their medications …

The trouble is that the weather is quite simply, naff !

It’s cold and it’s wet, so it’s not a great time for release as there’s no dry bedding about.

We do release throughout the winter months, temperature dependant, to places with hedgehog houses and with people who support feed throughout the winter months.

However, we all know that hedgehogs can be contrary little souls.. Give them the best house, warm straw and lots of food…. and the first night that they are released, they clear off and you don’t see them again 🙄

But, that’s their choice…all we can do is give them the option 🦔🦔🦔

I’ll review the forecast and make a decision as to when we can get some of these hogs back home ☺️

Little Ivy 🦔

Remember the poorly hedgehog I found in my garden a couple of weeks ago with ringworm on her face so she could hardly open her eye? Well this is her today after receiving treatment and tlc at the 5* Shelley Hedgehogs. Her eye is open, the ringworm is responding to treatment, you can see the line on her back where she’s been strimmed but she’s recovering nicely and I’ve named her Ivy. 🦔☺️🦔☺️
