We routinely test for for mosquito and tick diseases, and one of our patients tested positive for heartworm disease. We then confirmed active disease by checking out this poor dog’s blood and saw the microfilaria- check it out! These are larval stages of heartworm, the adults then settle in the heart and look like angel hair spaghetti filling the heart chambers.
Heartworm protection is routine doggie maintenance, just like vaccinations and flea and tick prevention! Our team is happy to help!

Is your dog on Heartworm Prevention? Heartworm disease is spread through mosquitos, and can lead to severe health issues including heart failure and organ damage. Monthly prevention can keep your pet safe from this potentially deadly disease! We are seeing more positive heartworm results in our area. Below is an example of a treatment plan for a Heartworm positive dog from the American Heartworm Society. As you can see, the treatment is extensive, costly, and time consuming. By giving a monthly Heartworm Preventative, such as Interceptor Plus, to your dog this can all be avoided! Give us a call to schedule annual heartworm testing and keep your dog up to date on their prevention!
