We at Adopt-A-Pet are asking for your help for our shelter dog Lexi! Any amount would be appreciated. Please see Lexi's story below.
Lexi came into AAP on 09/29/2022 an amazing happy and athletic girl who won the hearts of Volunteers immediately. She loves her trail walks, carrying up to three balls at once in her mouth, and is a fetch master! She is enjoying her time with us at AAP!
One Sunday morning in November I came in, and Lexi would not get up. Her entire mouth was white, and she would not eat or drink water. Assistant Kennel Manager Helena, and I assessed her including vitals that ironically were all in the normal range.
Monday morning Bruce AAP President and I transported Lexi to Pinehurst Veterinary Hospital, where she was received by Dr. Capsey. It was discovered she had a huge rock in her stomach. She was extremely anemic with a red blood cell count of 21 and received blood transfusions. After she was stable, Bruce, Helena, and I transported Lexi to Blue Pearl Lakewood where she was received by Dr. Cammarano. Lexi spent the next 5 days fighting for her life. She received more blood transfusions, blood thinners, prednisone, Gabapentin, and an attempt was made to remove the rock via scope in her esophagus. Unfortunately, this procedure did not work, and the rock remains in Lexi.
Lexi was diagnosed Chronic Anemia, IMHA, and all the Doctors believe the rock is a factor. She was released to AAP care to continue her medications and recuperate. Her red blood cell count at this point is 33. Her total expense for six days of emergency care is $10,695.50
Lexi is now strong enough to undergo abdominal and stomach surgery to remove the rock she is carrying around which will be performed at Pinehurst by Dr. Capsey, and their in-house Abdominal Resection Specialist. We are asking at this time for donations to help cover her previous medical costs, and her pending surgery which is estimated to be $5000.00 to $10,000.00
We at AAP love Lexi and are very grateful for her strength to survive another day. Thank you for the excellent care she received at Pinehurst with Dr. Capsey and his staff, and at Blue Pearl with Dr. Cammarano and her staff. They literally saved her life. We will keep you all posted on Lexi's progress.
Special thanks to Hailey Kelley, for sponsoring and providing the pictures of Lexi for this post.
