Adopt-a-Pet is an all-volunteer dog shelter serving Mason County and the surrounding areas that has been in operation for 42 years. We are an energetic team dedicated to saving the lives of unwanted, abandoned, and abused dogs. As a 501(c) 3, non-profit organization, we rely on adoption fees, donations, grants, fundraisers, and estate bequests to continue our good work. It takes a village to save

LULU is Dog of the Week!!!

Meet LULU! She is a 61 #, 3-year-old (DOB 01/01/2022) German Shepherd Dog girl who is very sweet!

***GSD EXPERIENCE PREFERRED / SHE WAS A STRAY/ SHE NEEDS HER CONFIDENCE BUILT WITH POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT AND LOVE***

LuLu is gentle, sweet, loving, and a smart girl with a happy disposition. She is shy at first, but warms up with calm voices, slow movements, and positive praise. She is a very quiet and tidy dog, and to this day, we have not heard her bark. She is a mellow girl who enjoys walks, yard play, and enjoyed a camping trip with her finder family. She is a fast learner who listens and enjoys praise and cuddles for reward! A calm family with GSD experience would be her best fit in preferably a country setting. She loaded up nicely in the van and rides well. She is a great companion and family dog. LuLu needs a kind and gentle leader to continue her basic commands, and leash manners.

According to her finder family, LuLu does well with children of all ages. We do recommend 10+ who are kind and dog savvy due to her shyness. She is dog social, however cats are unknown. A secure fenced and supervised yard is required to keep her safe and happy.

On Friday September 12, these fine folks from WSU Extension Mason Group came out to Adopt-A-Pet to help tidy up our space. They worked on some much-needed landscape cleanup, like weeding, mowing and raking. They were very generous with their time; they also brought the dogs some treats and toys and everyday supplies for the rest of us. The dogs and volunteers thank you for all your hard work, our shelter looks amazing.

LIL is Dog of the Week!!

Meet LIL! She is a 48 #, 5-year-old Whippet mix girl who is very sweet and active!

***HOUND DOG EXPERIENCE PREFERRED. NO CATS, NO SMALL ANIMALS, NO LIVESTOCK OF ANY KIND***

Lil is gentle, independent, loving, and smart! She is an active girl who enjoys walks, yard play, and fetch. She is a fast learner who listens, and prefers a quiet environment! People are Lil's passion, and she wants to be part of the family action. She loaded up nicely in the van, and rode well. Lil is shy and timid at first meet, but warms up quickly. She is a great companion dog. Due to her exuberance, Lil does well with children 13+ who are kind and dog savvy. She is dog social, and enjoys dog company! No cats, small animals, or livestock, of any kind for this girl due to her prey drive. A secure 6-10 foot fenced yard is required to keep her safe and happy. We recommend supervised yard, as she is a jumper.

Happy Tails Tuesday!!

August was another stellar month for our adoption team, with three of our dogs finding their "furever" homes!! From left to right, Red Dog, Bowser and Willow all went home with their new families. Way to go adoption team!!!

RILEY is Dog of the Week!
Meet RILEY! She is a 49 #, 9-month-old (DOB 11/22/2024) German Shepherd Dog girl who is very sweet!

***GSD EXPERIENCE PREFERRED / ROUGH BEGINNIGS WITH FOUR HOMES IN NINE MONTHS / SHE NEEDS HER CONFIDENCE BUILT WITH POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT AND LOVE***

Riley is gentle, sweet, loving, and a smart girl with a happy disposition. She is shy at first, but warms up with calm voices, slow movements, and positive praise. Riley is a very quiet dog, and to this day, we have not heard her bark. She is an active girl who enjoys walks, and yard play. She is a fast learner who listens and enjoys praise and cuddles for reward! A calm family with GSD experience would be her best fit in, preferably a country setting. She loaded up nicely in the van and rode well. She is a great companion and family dog. Riley needs a kind and gentle leader to continue her basic commands, and leash manners.

According to her Foster, Riley does well with children of all ages. We do recommend 10+ who are kind and dog savvy due to her shyness. Riley had no positive dog socialization and has been reactive towards other dogs. We are working with her to build her confidence, and socialization skills. Cats are unknown. A secure fenced and supervised yard is required to keep her safe and happy.

AXEL is Dog of the Week!!
Meet AXEL! He is a 5-year-old (DOB 05/24/2020), 58 # Yellow Labrador Retriever / German Shepherd Dog mixed boy whose lemon cream coat is soft, and he always has a smile.

***AXEL IS LARGE DOG EXPERIENCE PREFERRED***

Axel is a smart and sweet-natured dog and people are his passion. He has a mellow and happy disposition and enjoys cuddles. He tends to be a quiet and tidy boy who is a fast learner. Axel would love a yard to romp in and play tennis ball fetch, with shady spots to relax and chew on his bone. He is a great walker, and enjoys car rides. Water and swimming are also favorites!

Axel's owner taught him sit, lay, shake, and he has lived with children agee 10+ who are kind and dog savvy. He is dog social and also lived with dog savvy cats. He is a great companion and family dog.

Axel does wear a sweatshirt after a chest growth removal surgery. It was noted by the Vet he may have laid on concrete which caused his hair follicles to abscess. He is all healed up now!

BONNIE & CLYDE are the Dogs of the Week!!

Meet BONNIE & CLYDE! Bonnie is 47 #, 8-year-old female, and Clyde is 57 # 8-year-old male, Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix siblings whose birthday is 05/01/2016. They are wonderful family and companion dogs!

***HERDING BREED / LARGE BREED DOG EXPERIENCE PREFERRED. THEY ARE A BONDED PAIR AND MUST BE ADOPTED TOGETHER. BEST HOME FIT NO KIDS/NO CATS OR SMALL ANIMALS. THEY ARE DOG SOCIAL WITH DOGS THEIR SIZE WITH PROPER INTRODUCTION***

Bonnie and Clyde are sweet, affectionate, smart, and they love people. They are smart, active, loving, and a curious dogs who want to be part of the action. They love a car ride, yard play, have great manners, are crate trained, house broken, and are very polite. Bonnie and Clyde are dog social with dogs their size and proper introduction. Kids or cats are not recommended. They keep a very tidy kennel and are not destructive in any way. They have a happy disposition and want to please. A secure fenced yard is required to keep them safe and happy!

CIPHER is Dog of the Week!!
Meet CIPHER! She is a 66 #, 1.5-year-old (DOB 08/26/2023), Bulldog/Mastiff mix girl who is very sweet and active!

***BULLY BREED DOG EXPERIENCE PREFERRED. SECURE HIGH 10 FOOT FENCED YARD REQUIRED - SHE IS A JUMPER AND A CLIMBER***

Cipher is gentle, loving, with a great personality, and is very smart! She is an active girl who loves being outside, enjoys walks, yard play, and rope toys especially! She is a fast learner who listens and is a great companion and family dog. Cipher loves everything and everyone, is a big cuddler, and wants to be part of the family action. She loaded up nicely in the van, and rode well. Cipher loves water, swimming, sprinklers, and her bath! She has lived successfully with kids who are 11 and 16 years old. She is dog social, enjoys dog company, but does play rough. She has lived with dog savvy cats, and will chase them to play. A secure 6-10 foot fenced yard is required to keep her safe and happy. We recommend supervised yard with a long lead as she is a jumper and climber.
