Please don't leave your pet in the car on the hot days coming up over the next few weeks. The temperatures can rise quickly even on days that it is only 70 degrees outside, and you think it is ok even if you leave the windows rolled down a bit.

Plus, did you know that on July 27th, 2025, bill, H.B. 1046 also called the Good Samaritan Rule, goes into effect that will protect good Samaritans who rescue at-risk companion animals and vulnerable people who are locked in cars. The bill will help save animals in instances where waiting for law enforcement to arrive before rescue would be too late.

The law states that: the rescuer must have good faith and reasonable belief based on the known circumstances, that entry into the motor vehicle is necessary because the vulnerable person or domestic animal is in imminent danger of suffering harm. The bill also requires the rescuer to determine that the motor vehicle is locked or that there is no reasonable method for the animal to exit the vehicle without assistance; contacts the law enforcement before; uses no more force than necessary; and remains with the vulnerable person or animal until first responders arrive.

Please in the warmer temperatures just leave your pets at home.

BEX is Dog of the Week!!
Meet BEX! He is a 29 #, 1-year-old (DOB 02/01/2024), Australian Cattle Dog / Kelpie mix boy who hails from the great state of Texas!

***HERDING DOG EXPERIENCE PREFERRED***

Our Foster found he would do best with children 13+ due to exuberance, and is dog social with active dogs his size. Cats and small animals are a no, and if on a farm no fowl of any kind. He is smart, sweet, loving, and kind. Very fast learner! A secure fenced yard is required to keep him safe and happy!

Bex was living in Foster care in TX, and below are his Foster Mom's notes!

Mr. Bex is a total ham. He knows he is gorgeous, but he is also here to entertain the crowd! He LOVES people and other dogs. Cats unknown. Bex loves toys and snuggles, he knows the “sit” command and will be quick to learn new things especially if treats are involved.

Bex enjoys sharing his people and toys with other dogs. This handsome, friendly
and happy dog will of course be a hit wherever he goes. Bex is protective of his food and would prefer to have other dog’s food as well as his. We suggest that you feed him separately until you get a baseline on his food habits.

On Thursday June 26th, Adopt-A-Pet was honored with a visit from Presidio Custom Kennels as part of their 2025 Roadshow of giving back campaign across the United States. To help raise awareness in the community the Presidio crew, Mike Robertson and Scott Riley, visited the shelter, met with members of the Board of Directors, our Kennel Manager and volunteers, received a tour of the facility, and learned about Adopt-A-Pet and our dedication to the dogs under our care at the shelter.

As part of the Roadshow tour, Adopt-A-Pet received a generous donation from Presidio Kennels and a Certificate of Appreciation for our dedication to our commitment to the animal population we serve in the community.

Thank you, Presidio Custom Kennels, and thank you to Mike and Scott for the visit and the chance to show off our shelter. We appreciate the opportunity to showcase our facility and to receive the generous donation and acknowledgement from you and the roadshow.

Are you looking for a gal who gives the best hugs and loves with her all? Peach would be the perfect one for you! This girl bonds so deep. She loves hanging with her person whether it’s going for a walk with new smells or just snuggling! Zoomies in yard are one of her favorite things and she is learning that the pool isn’t such a bad thing on a hot day!

DOLLY PARTON is Dog of the Week!!
Meet Dolly Parton! She is a 65 #, 12-year-old, PitBull mix who up to now has had a mysterious life. Miss Parton was dumped at Hank’s Lake, thankfully found by a good Samaritan, and brought to safety! It is believed DP would do best in an all adult home with no other dogs, cats, or other animals. She has interacted and done well with our age 15+ volunteers, however children in the home are not recommended.

***PITBULL TERRIER / LARGE DOG EXPERIENCE PREFERRED. DOLLY'S DIET IS SALMON ONLY. DUE TO NUEROLOGICAL DAMAGE FROM HER INJURIES SHE IS ON GABAPENTIN AND CARPROFEN MEDICATION FOR LIFE***

DP is a bit shy and reserved but loves to be pet and scratched. She has her volunteer favorites that will sit in bed with her to give cuddles! She loves to be cruising the yard with you, playing with toys, and loves both the sun & snow.

***It should be noted that DP is DEAF and has learned sign language to communicate her needs. We do get visual response from her before leashing or petting and approach her from the right side. Additionally DP has neurological damage to her head, neck, right shoulder, and right front leg. Please be aware she does resource guard and does not want anyone around her food bowls or blankets***

She will need time, patience, and training to be comfortable in her new home. This senior companion will need a securely fenced yard to keep her safe and happy.

If you have any other questions, email is the best method of communication. We are 100% volunteer-run and operated and are open by appointment only. Today is National Take Your Dog to Work Day. It is celebrated annually on the Friday after Father's Day to celebrate the bond between humans and their canine companions, and a really good excuse not to leave your furbaby at home for the day.

Started in 1999 by Pet Sitters international to celebrate the joys of having dogs in the workplace, the day is meant to be a fun way to celebrate pets, encourage adoption and potentially allow employees to experience the benefits of having pets in the workplace, such as reduced stress and increased camaraderie.

Please share your pictures of your pet at work today whether you work in the cooperate world or in a home office, we would love to see your dog by your side.

Tonka is sweet, loving, smart, and goofy! He is a wonderful guy who wants to be part of action! He loves to play, go for walks, car rides, fetch, cuddling and belly rubs, and relaxing with a chew bone. Tonka is house broken, crate trained, and learning leash manners. PINKY is Dog of the Week!!
Meet PINKY! She is a 61 #, 6-month-old German Shepherd Dog girl who is very sweet and active!

***GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG / LARGE DOG EXPERIENCE PREFERRED. SISTER TO PEBBLES***

Pinky is gentle, loving, smart! She is a happy pup that loves to give kisses! She is an active strong girl who enjoys walks, yard play, fetch, and tug with rope toys. She is a fast learner who listens! An active outdoorsy family would be her best fit as she wants to be part of the family action! She loaded up nicely and rides well. Pinky is treat motivated, and has a very gentle mouth. She is a great companion and family dog. Pinky needs a strong leader to continue her basic commands, and leash manners.

Due to her exuberance, Pinky does well with children 10+ who are kind and dog savvy. Other dogs her size are fine as she is dog social. Cats are unknown. A secure fenced yard is required to keep her safe and happy.
