Not all rescues are created equal! As much as I love helping domesticated animals, when I get to help a wild animal it is a whole new type of excitement. Saturday night I was driving through Shenandoah and when I saw this little thing running back and forth. I threw my car in park and ran. It was a young porcupine. He was weaving in and out of traffic, up on peoples porches desperately trying to hide. He was so confused. At one point we think a car clipped him and sent him tumbling. So we tried to get him off Center st. We were trying to get him back towards the woods and he turned down an alley. At this point he just laid. I don’t know if he was in shock or just tired. We secured him and put him in my back seat and off to Red Creek we went. He arrived safely and was picked up this morning and is being taken care of. I have rescued many wild animals before but this was a first. This is a once in a lifetime rescue and I am so grateful that I was in the right spot at the right time.
For all the people that stopped traffic from hitting him and me….thank you.
