I am sorry, but I was notified today that the microchips we used were part of the Save a Life system that has now shut down.
If you had a pet microchipped at one of our clinic days, or adopted a dog from us, please check their registry. Some dogs were microchipped before they came to our rescue, so it will not be all of our dogs. The picture below describes steps to take to make sure your pet is still linked to you. Please check it!
Your paperwork will include the microchip number, but if you do not have those papers, you can get the number by having your pet scanned at any veterinary clinic. Of course, if you are in our area, you can always swing by, and I will scan your pet.

If your pet has a * Save This Life Microchip*, PLEASE RE-REGISTER your pet with a different organization ASAP!

What to do:
Please go to any Veterinarian office or Animal Control agency to have your pet scanned.

When you are provided with your microchip numbers, please visit AAHA "microchip look- up" and type them in. From there, you will be provided the microchip company contact information.

You will also be provided with other company options to register with.

➡ If the microchip number starts with 991 or 900164 then it is likely you have a Save This Life microchip and it needs to be re-registered. Otherwise, it is from another brand, and no action is needed. If your microchip DOES contain these numbers and you have additional questions after visiting the microchip search website, please feel free to reach out to us at 586-469-5115

⚠ If your pet was microchipped by Macomb County Animal Control your pet is NOT affected by this as we use PetLink.

When registering your new Microchip:
🐾Please provide as much information as possible. This is to help us get your pet back to you as soon as possible.
🐾Current name, address, email, phone number.
🐾Back up contact information such as a family member or friend.

If your pet is ever picked up as a stray and the microchip is NOT registered, you are only given 7 days to find your pet in a shelter. That is what Michigan State Law requires.

The more contact information animal shelters have, the more chances we have to reunite your pet with you.

This deaf dog has been waiting for 4 years! If she does not get a home NOW, she will be euthanized! PLEASE someone step up for Echo!

‼️🐶URGENT: ECHO NEEDS YOU NOW🐶‼️

Echo, 8 years old, Female, fully vetted, Pitbull mix, DEAF

This is one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to share, but we owe it to Echo—and to all of you who’ve supported her along the way—to be completely transparent. We cannot keep Echo in boarding any longer. After over 4 years and 5 months of waiting—over 1,600 days spent in a kennel—her time is running out. If we do not find a foster or adoptive home for Echo by the end of this month, we will have no choice but to euthanize her.

This is not a decision we want to make nor one we have ever had to make in our entire rescue existence. Echo is an amazing dog who could be the perfect addition to a family. She’s loving, loyal, and eager to please. She’s full of personality and would thrive in a home where she’s the only pet, and someone is ready to show her the love and patience she has longed for. We know Echo can be someone’s best friend, but we’ve been trying for years to find that family, and no one has stepped up.

For nearly 1,500 days, she’s been stuck in a kennel, waiting for someone to choose her. We’ve seen countless dogs come and go, while Echo’s story has been endlessly postponed. It’s not fair to her, and it’s not fair to the other dogs we’re trying to save. Every day she stays in boarding is another day we can’t rescue another animal—and we know that. But we cannot continue to let Echo’s life be put on hold.

In the last month, Echo has spent time in our trainer/board member's home, and we’ve seen a side of her we knew was there all along. She’s shown she can coexist with cats, under supervision. While we’d prefer Echo to be the only pet in the home and think she would do best in a home without other dogs or young children, we can see her potential. Echo has the ability to succeed in a variety of living situations with the right family.

Euthanasia is not something we ever want to do. We want Echo to have a chance—a chance at a loving family, at real happiness, at a life outside these walls. We need your help to make that happen. If you know anyone who can foster or adopt Echo, please step up NOW. Please. Time is critical. We will answer any and all questions—no matter how small or big.

This is **Echo’s final chance.** Her final post. **If we don’t find a home for her now, we will lose her forever.** This is extremely difficult for us to come to terms with, and even harder to share. But Echo has been waiting for so long, and we owe it to her—and to you, our supporters—to know the truth.

We cannot keep her in boarding forever. It’s unfair to her, it’s unfair to the animals we are trying to save, and it’s unfair to the people who have loved her through this journey.

❤️This sweet boy needs a hero!

This dog is located in Norris, MT and he is really declining in his current situation. Please search your heart. If you fit his needs, please help him!

Oy needs to move into an in-home foster. Or better yet, a permanent suitable adoptive home. He is stressed out in our kennels and cries even when turned out into his yard. We know this is just desperate loneliness. He needs a human. 😢 Substantial progress has occurred in his behavior since his arrival nearly a year ago. This super-sized bully dog is very cuddly and sweet. He just wants to be held and will pour on the cute to get it. Oh how he tippy taps and flaps his ears. 🥰
He walks well on leash, listens to his handler, sits on cue, and is developing a fantastic stay. Residual fears and discomfort remain from his previous life that are a source of anxiety for him. He needs someone that understands his unique needs and can help him past his fears. He needs to know he will not be abandoned again.
A home with no other animals would be best for now, for his own recovery and mental stability. He is dog friendly to other submissive friendly dogs. He will not tolerate cats. Experienced teenagers would be ok but children under 16 will get bulldozed by him.
His food and supplies will be provided to a foster placement.
Did we mention his mesmerizing beauty?

#2 of tonight’s educational post

I wish I could tell you the perfect food, and make it easier for you. It cannot be done because every dog has different needs. I will, however, tell you there are some foods that are better than others, and some food is complete garbage. Sometimes the expensive food is not the best food, but just has better advertising.
I will also tell you to consider the source when you get advice. Do they make a profit if you buy that brand? I am going to draw some heat with this remark, but consider your veterinarian. Some of them have done extensive research into the brands they recommend. Others, well, they get free samples to display it in their clinic. Ask why it is best, and don’t settle for “it is vet formulated.” I don’t know any commercial food in America that isn’t. I need more than that to feed it to my dog. I know some of you know that I am married to a veterinarian, so you can imagine this makes a sticky point in my house. So, if I can do the research for myself, you can, too!
(BTW, I am not affiliated with any dog food brand, and will make nothing off of you deciding for yourself) 😉

This is the first of two educational posts I want to make.

Everyone knows a fat dog is not healthy, but it is so confusing trying to choose what and how to feed them. First, I recommend you find how many calories they need. Dogs metabolize calories differently than humans, and it may shock you how few they actually need.

Start here.

Word of advice, your bulldog is probably going to be in the leisure category, even if they are active for a bulldog. Think about the truly active breeds you know, and compare them to that.

Secondly, we need to be tougher with ourselves. Food is my love language, and I want to show affection by giving it to them. But, I have to remember that real love is doing what is best for them. My dog cannot go to the kitchen, and make a meal. So, if my dog is fat, I am the one to blame.

Food does not equal love!

When you cannot resist, give them something that will take them a long time, such as an antler or other safe alternative. (Rawhide is not safe, and should never be given to dogs). Play games with their food to make it last longer. Scent games, hide and seek, even just feeding them one kibble at a time will help create a bond while avoiding excess food.

Why rescue?
These are my two bulldogs, and I think a picture is worth a 1000 words. These are before and after rescue.
Many people think they want a puppy, but I honestly never missed it. I love dogs that already sleep through the night, and are not teething on all my cords.
If you have rescued, please share your experiences. I am going to try to get it to allow photo comments, too.

Local (Montana) English Bulldog needs foster!
This sweetie is a 3 year old female English bulldog named Bev. She is being surrendered to Freckles and Tomcat rescue. They need a foster while they try to figure out some medical issues with her. She has horrendous ears, and may require surgery. She is fully vaxxed, but still needs her spay. F&T needs a foster to give her a safe place to land while they get these things completed. Please reach out to them if you can foster, or would like to eventually adopt this sweet girl!
