The Hive House is a family farm and beekeeping supply company based in Shepherdstown West Virginia. We are one of the areas most trusted suppliers of Queen Bees, Spring Nucs, Package bees as well as the local dealer and wholesaler of Mann Lake equipment and supplies. We partner with the USDA Beltsville Bee Lab, providing beehives for their continued research into honeybee health and we share our k

So…if you (or you and friends) would be interested in a 50 # box comment below and say how many boxes.

3LB ITALIAN PACKAGES: $135, add $5 for marking.
Arriving for pickup MARCH 18th and APRIL 11th!!

Our Nucs are made from our overwintered local hives with new Queens. Overwintered queens are available as well, by request. All Nucs will be made available for pickup in order of purchase date.

We want you to have the best start to the season as possible. All nucs are robust five full frame colonies, treated and state inspected, with a strong laying Queen, 3 brood frames, a frame of food and a mixed frame on average. We also warranty our queens. Any Nuc or Package that loses its queen in the first week will be replaced and we address any other issue on a case by case basis. Our packages arrive here the morning after being shaken so they are in your hives as quick as possible with the shortest shipping time.

West Virginia residents: Our nucs qualify for the Eastern Panhandle Conservation District's Nuc Reimbursement Program.

If you want to learn more about honey bees and beekeeping, the
Washington County Beekeepers Association is offering its annual
Beginner's Beekeeping Course

Our 2025 two-day class is planned to be held on:
January 11, 2025, 9:00 AM ET to 3:00 PM ET
-and-
January 18, 2025, 9:00 AM ET to 3:00 PM ET
(If one of these days is canceled, we'll hold class on January 25, 2025)

This two-day class will cover all the foundations of successful beekeeping from the basics of bee
biology to the in depth functioning of the hive. We will cover the history of beekeeping and their
role in our lives, necessary equipment, biology and hive dynamics, hive management strategies and
methods for maintaining hives that are healthy, strong, and productive. Join us to start a fascinating
journey into the world of the honeybee.
The course will be held at:

Trinity Lutheran Church
64 South Main Street
Boonsboro, MD 21713
Park in the rear. Use the side entrance.

There is a nominal course enrollment fee. This fee includes a one-year membership in the
Washington County Beekeepers Association.
To accompany portions of the course, you may choose to bring a copy of the 5th edition of
Beekeeping for Dummies by Howland Blackiston (2020).
The book is available from Books-A-Million, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and other sellers.
WCBA also recommends bringing a blank notebook to start your beekeeping journal.
Up to two members of the same household can attend under a single registration.

LEARN THE ART OF BEEKEEPING!!
FREE CLASSES STARTING NOV. 4th!

The Shepherdstown Library will be hosting a free beginner beekeeping class series every Monday in November!
The classes are taught by Jason Murphy of Hive House Apiaries. Classes will be held every Monday evening (4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th) starting at 6:30pm in the Commons Room at the Library in Shepherdstown.

This progressive course is designed to provide anyone with the necessary knowledge to start their own journey into keeping bees and will, week by week, cover history, necessary equipment, bee biology, hive inspections, and hive health practices.

Classes are free and open to the public, but class size is limited! Please register ahead of time by contacting [email protected]

Come discover the amazing world of the honeybee as well as a new passion in life.

Our Story

We are an apiary and beekeeping supply company based in Shepherdstown, West Virginia family owned by Jason Murphy, Christine Lepine and our junior beekeeper Eli. We serve the local West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania area. We provide locally produced honey as well as nucs, queen bees, and are the local dealer for Mann Lake equipment and supplies to area beekeepers. We love to share our knowledge and experience and offer hands on experience to those looking to learn more about our favorite pollinators.
