Who do you think would win a "cutest mink" contest? πŸ€” I certainly think Lysander would have a strong chance of winning, but don't tell Smaug or Ember I said that!! πŸ˜¬πŸ˜…πŸ€£

"When I first met Nicolas the Mink, I wondered how he could even be real. I felt certain this had to be a dream, and thus was some magical, mythical creature visiting me. Nico was a displaced fur farm mink who also came to me from Second Chance (*current resident Ember Foxfire Rebel Mink is from Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation in Price Utah). The realization that millions of mink just like Nico were kept in tiny cages and killed for fur absolutely boggled my mind. Who could kill such a magical creature, and for something so utterly unnecessary?"

END MINK FARMING

What is the Paul Project, and how will it work for participants?

Paul Project is a social media campaign to bring awareness to fur farming, and to encourage support of the current legislation aimed at ending mink farming. **Why a walrus?? Click the link at the end of this post to read the story of Paul the Walrus.

How it works for participants:

β€’ A plush walrus (Paul) and a small book will be mailed to you.

β€’ In the book, you will write a message about why you think fur farms should be ended (it can be super short, longer, a poem, a drawing - feel free to be creative).

β€’ After you write your message, you will snap a photo of the walrus and your message page together- you can make it a selfie & include yourself, you can include your pet, you can take the picture with a local landmark in the background, at your business if you are a business owner, etc. Again, feel free to get creative with your photos.

β€’ You will then post your photo/s in the public Paul Project group (they can absolutely be submitted anonymously if preferred). Note that it is a public group and your photos will be shared widely and posted on the Paul Project page, Instagram, and Twitter. If you wish to remain anonymous that is no problem.

β€’ Now it's time for Paul to move on. You will repackage Paul & the little book back into their envelope, and pass them on to the next person. You can pass them on by hand to someone else locally who wants to participate, or you can mail them. The Paul Project can provide you with a participant to send the envelope to if needed.

β€’ It is generally up to the participants to pay for postage to send Paul on. However, if you would like to participate but cannot cover postage, please reach out to The Paul Project for assistance.

These three mink were the victims of a disease that emerged from mink mink farms. A disease that literally never existed before mink farms. A disease that was born on a mink farm. A disease now loose in the wild.

How much damage has already been inflicted by fur farms? This isn't a "green" industry. This is a death industry. Death of mink. Death of wildlife. Death of humans is next, if something like Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza begins to burn through mink farms. We've already seen Covid mutate on mink farms. Does the US have the balls to step up and end the industry before the next pandemic? πŸ˜’

The Paul Project is almost ready to launch!! Paul will journey around the country visiting various people and collecting their thoughts on fur farming in his book. Our goal is to raise awareness about fur farming through Paul going on this fun, quirky journey. It's a serious mission with an adventurous spirit.

There will be multiple Paul teams, and each one will be tracked on a map. Which Paul will travel the most miles? Which Paul will visit the most people? Which Paul will visit another country first? Which Paul will be photographed doing the most amazing/interesting/fun things?

Where will the very first Paul be going as his first stop πŸ‘€ someplace special!

They were always together πŸ’— Friends Not Fur

This sweet little being is what is used to make fashionable fur coats for the wealthy.

This is one fashion trend that is (should be) extremely outdated in 2023.

Who is Paul, and what does a walrus have to do with mink farming? πŸ€” Paul is a vintage walrus stuffie, and he was a rescued mink's very best friend in the whole wide world.

Frostfang was a "domestic" fur farm-line mink. She was likely born on a fur farm, and at some point in her life she was brokered into the exotic pet trade. She was sold over the internet like a rehomed pet, and a young woman saved her and her sister & got them into the care of a rescue/sanctuary. Frosty's full background remains a mystery, but ALL domestic mink have roots in the world of fur farming. All.

With love and a stable environment, Frosty and her sister thrived. Frosty found the little plush walrus named Paul mixed in with the other toys, and it was obsession at first sight. Frosty was eventually given a collection of "Pauls" because she loved him so much, and she dragged them around everywhere. She would stash them, snuggle them, and even swim with them.

Frosty's unique personality, her likes and dislikes, her playfulness, her trust... All of these traits are there within every single fur farm mink that is raised and killed for the rich and elite, so that they have that special outfit for a one night event or gala.

Frosty's brethren are not killed and skinned to clothe cold children in the deep north. They are instead wrapped around the rock stars, the wives of business moguls, the professional athletes and in general the mega wealthy. 50-60 mink for a $6000 coat. 50-60 tortured creatures who were curious, playful, intelligent souls, brokered in death to the wealthy for the cost of 3-6 months rent for a human family. Not killed for food. Not killed to clothe those who need warmth. Killed simply for reprehensible vanity.

Why, in 2023, are we doing this.

Frostfang passed away December 29 2022, after a fierce battle with an infection. Her little plush walrus friend is going to keep her memory alive by bringing awareness to the plight of her brethren. Because that is what friends do. That is the heart of The Paul Project... Friends, Not Fur.

Paul is going to travel the country spreading awareness. Will you help him? Will you follow along his journey? Paul is going to tell stories of fur farm survivors and will ask you to tell the world how you feel about mink (and other animal) fur farming in 2023.
