Today's is the beautiful Willow! Warning: you will fall in love with her the moment you meet her. Willow loves everyone and is a true caretaker at heart. She came to us after being abandoned by her human family; they left behind her and her four adult children, two "teenage" grandchildren, and four new kittens - eleven cats in total. They all looked to Willow for guidance when they arrived, and she was so confident and brave, they followed her lead to adapt beautifully at SCSCR. Willow loves to cuddle, lay in laps, and be brushed. She is only 4 years old and still young at heart. She likes to play and gets along with other animals. Willow will adjust well to any home, bringing her soft purr and sweet head bonks with her. She is spending the weekend at Petco - Sheridan Wyoming, so stop by and meet her!

As we close out 2024, we want to share some updates and happy endings!

Libby’s story is one of resilience, healing, and finding the perfect forever family. When this sweet kitten arrived at Second Chance at just 10 weeks old, she had severe untreated eye infections that left her nearlyblind. Despite her condition, Libby charmed everyone with her incredible purr and playful spirit. Our team worked tirelessly to treat her eyes, and while she regained some light and shadow vision in her left eye, the damage was too severe for her to fully recover her sight.

But Libby didn’t let her visual impairment slow her down. She adapted beautifully, thriving with the love and care she received. By the time she was ready for adoption, this snuggly little fighter had already won the heart of her new mom, who couldn’t wait to bring her home.

Now renamed Aria, Libby is living her best life. She has bonded deeply with her mom, becoming her steadfast companion. Her mom writes that Aria begins purring the moment she hears her voice or catches her scent. She’s also a playful and adventurous kitty, tearing through the house with her new kitty brother with endless energy. Aria has even learned to enjoy supervised outdoor time and is thriving with her new family, including her corgi brother, who diligently watches over her.

A recent check-up revealed that Aria’s eyesight has improved beyond expectations—what was once thought to be severe damage now presents as minor cataracts, with only faint scars on her corneas. Her transformation from a vulnerable stray kitten to a beloved family member is a testament to her fighting spirit and the incredible love she’s found in her forever home.

Libby’s journey wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of our community. Intensive medical care, ongoing treatment, and the time it takes to match cats like Libby with the perfect family are made possible by your donations. As we celebrate Libby’s happy ending, we invite you to help us continue saving lives. Your support provides second chances to cats like Libby, ensuring they receive the care they need and the love they deserve.

As we close out 2024, we want to share some updates and happy endings!

Hilde’s story is nothing short of miraculous. At just seven months old, this brave little cat found herself in a life-threatening situation, tangled in a fence and freezing in the bitter cold. When the call came in, the SCSCR team didn’t hesitate to pause their evening plans and rush to her rescue. With patience and care, they freed her from the fence, but her leg was too damaged to save. Despite her feral demeanor and fear, Hilde was given a second chance with a safe, warm place to heal and recover.

Hilde’s resilience quickly became evident as she began her recovery after amputation. Initially she was wary and defensive, but with the gentle persistence of the SCSCR team, Hilde began to trust again. Slowly but surely, she accepted ear scratches and chin rubs, revealing the sweet and loving cat hidden beneath her fear. Her transformation was remarkable—what started as a tragic situation turned into a story of hope and healing.

Today, Hilde is a completely different cat. She confidently greets familiar faces, seeks out cuddles, and even enjoys belly rubs. She’s formed close bonds with her two special-needs kitten roommates and the staff member who rescued her from the fence that fateful night. Hilde’s journey from a frightened, injured kitten to a confident, affectionate companion is a testament to the power of love, care, and second chances.

Hilde’s story wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our community. The cost of emergency rescues, surgeries, and ongoing care for cats like Hilde adds up quickly, but every dollar, comment, and shared post makes a difference. Your generosity gives cats like Hilde the chance to not only survive but thrive.

As we celebrate Hilde’s incredible transformation, we ask for your continued support. Please consider donating today to help us save more cats in need and give them the second chances they deserve.

As we close out 2024, we want to share some updates and happy endings!

Agatha’s journey to her forever home is a story of resilience, love, and a little bit of diva charm. When Agatha arrived at Second Chance, her right eye was in terrible condition, fully ulcerated and at risk of being lost. Our team sprang into action with intensive care, including hourly treatments of eye drops and serum, along with oral antibiotics. While Agatha’s vision couldn’t be saved, her sweet and snuggly personality shone through, earning her a place in everyone’s hearts.

After weeks of dedicated care, Agatha made an incredible recovery. Although she will never regain vision in her right eye, it healed beautifully and doesn’t bother her at all. Agatha’s next challenge was finding the perfect home—a quiet space where she could be spoiled like the queen she is. This ultra-snuggly girl, who adores belly rubs and gives award-winning biscuits, waited patiently for her moment to shine.

Her time finally came during a weekend at Petco in Sheridan, where she met a family who fell instantly in love. Agatha’s new family didn’t hesitate to give her the forever home she deserved, and she’s thriving with all the love and attention she’s receiving. True to her diva nature, she has claimed her place as queen bee in her new home, and her family couldn’t be happier.

Agatha’s journey reminds us of the extraordinary transformations made possible by the love and generosity of our supporters. From intensive medical care to ongoing support for cats with special needs, your donations provide the second chances cats like Agatha deserve.

As we celebrate Agatha’s happy ending, we invite you to help us write the next success story. Your support makes all the difference, ensuring that every cat gets the care, love, and chance to find their perfect family.

As we close out 2024, we want to share some updates and happy endings!

After 500 days of waiting, Coco's story is one of patience, resilience, and finding the perfect forever home. Coco came to Second Chance after her owner passed away from cancer, along with nine other feline companions. While her friends were quickly adopted, Coco, at 13 years old, waited and watched as one by one they left for loving homes. Her stress was evident—she began overgrooming to the point of losing all the fur on her chest and belly, even with the help of anti-anxiety medication. Despite it all, Coco remained sweet and affectionate, just longing for a soft place to call home.

Her big break came when a family in Colorado saw her Facebook post and fell in love. From the moment she climbed into her adopter’s car for the long drive home, Coco (now transitioning to her new name, Campbell) settled in as though she’d been there forever. She quickly claimed her favorite spots in the house, from cozying up in the closet to making biscuits on her new family members. Her adopter writes that Coco purrs constantly, gives her signature nibble kisses, and has brought immense joy into their lives.

Coco has finally found the safe, caring home she so deeply deserved, and her new family couldn’t imagine life without her.

Coco’s story is a reminder of the importance of second chances and the incredible transformations that can happen with love and care. Please help us continue to care for cats like Coco by making a donation today. Your support provides the love, medical care, and time needed to match these incredible animals with their forever families.

As we close out 2024, we want to share some updates and happy endings!

Lavender's story is one of incredible resilience and the transformative power of care and compassion. This sweet cat was picked up as a stray by one of our rescue partners, who quickly realized she needed more medical care than they could provide. When she arrived at SCSCR, we discovered the heartbreaking extent of her injuries—her fur was matted with blood and pus, and her body was riddled with puncture wounds, likely from a dog attack. Many of her wounds were still open and bleeding, while scars across her back, hips, and tail told the story of the trauma she had endured. Lavender had been living in pain and fear for weeks, hiding from predators and struggling to survive.

Despite all she had been through, Lavender showed us nothing but love, greeting us with head bonks and soft purrs even as we carefully treated her injuries. X-rays revealed significant inflammation along her spine but no broken bones. While her draining wounds would take time to heal, we saw remarkable improvement with antibiotics, good food, and lots of love. Over the weeks, Lavender regained her strength and began showing us her true, affectionate personality.

Right before Christmas, Lavender's journey came full circle. Fully healed and thriving, she found her forever home with a kind older woman who adores her. Renamed Sweetie, Lavender now spends her days in a warm, loving home where she is cherished beyond measure.

Lavender's transformation was made possible by the generosity of supporters like you. Providing critical care for cats like Lavender, from life-saving antibiotics to X-rays and ongoing treatment, is costly but essential. As we celebrate Lavender’s happy ending, we invite you to help us continue this vital work. Your support makes all the difference for cats in need. Please consider making a donation today to ensure we can be there for the next cat like Lavender. Together, we can turn heartbreak into hope and give every cat the life they deserve.

As we finish out 2024, we want to share with you some updates and happy endings!

Acorn's story began with heartbreak but became a shining example of resilience, healing, and love. At just eight weeks old, this brave kitten dragged herself to a stranger for help after a devastating dog attack. She arrived at SCSCR with a puncture wound in her abdomen, pale and in shock, her tiny body struggling to hold on. Immediate emergency care revealed extensive injuries, including a fractured vertebrae and damaged skin that required weeks of intensive wound care.

Despite the odds, Acorn’s journey is a testament to the power of compassionate care and determination. Her foster family provided her with everything she needed to heal—pain management, antibiotics, wound care, and above all, unconditional love. Slowly but surely, Acorn’s wounds healed, her spirit blossomed, and her tiny body grew strong again. Today, her abdomen is fully healed, and she has been spayed in preparation for her next adventure—joining her adoptive family, where she will live alongside several SCSCR alumni.

Acorn’s remarkable recovery wouldn’t have been possible without the financial support of our generous community. Cats like Acorn, who come to us with severe injuries or illnesses, require extensive medical treatment, supplies, and ongoing care, which can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Your donations make it possible for us to provide second chances to animals who have nowhere else to turn.

As we celebrate Acorn’s happy ending, we ask for your continued support. Your generosity saves lives, transforms pain into joy, and helps us write more success stories like Acorn’s. Please consider making a donation today to help us care for the next cat in need. Together, we can ensure every cat gets the second chance they deserve.

In celebration of SCSCR’s 15th birthday, we are sharing fifteen years’ worth of stories of animal resilience, unwavering humanity, and radical generosity throughout the month of December. Today's story comes from 2023.

This Christmas, we’re sharing the story of George, a cat who has touched every heart at SCSCR. George will turn 12 years old on New Year’s Day, and he is the sweetest, most gentle soul you could ever meet. He’s an absolute favorite among staff and volunteers, but despite his charm, George has endured heartbreak over the years.

George came to us after his first owner passed away from cancer. After several months in our care, he found a wonderful home with a kind older woman who adored him. Tragically, her life was cut short by acute kidney failure, and in February 2023, George returned to us, once again without a family of his own.

Since then, George has been nothing but patient and loving, waiting for someone to give him a chance. Though we’ve been honored to be his family, we know George dreams of having a warm lap to call his own.

This year, George’s Christmas wish is simple: to find his forever home. At 12 years old, he’s hoping the third time’s the charm. Could you be the one to make his wish come true?

Merry Christmas from all of us at SCSCR, and thank you for being part of 15 years of stories like George’s—tales of love, resilience, and hope.

In celebration of SCSCR’s 15th birthday, we are sharing fifteen years’ worth of stories of animal resilience, unwavering humanity, and radical generosity throughout the month of December. Today's story comes from 2022.

In 2022, SCSCR took in dozens of cats from a colony in Clearmont, WY. None were spayed or neutered, and all were related—an entire extended feline family. Among them were three heavily pregnant females who were so bonded that we housed them together in a large double kennel. As we got to know them, it became clear that the torbie, Chia, was the matriarch, and the two orange girls, Cheer and Cheebs, were her daughters.

Cheer was the first to go into labor, delivering five beautiful kittens. A terrified first-time mom, she called out to her own mother, Chia, with each contraction. Chia was right by her side, comforting her through the entire labor and even helping clean the newborns as they arrived. Two days later, both Chia and Cheebs went into labor, bringing 10 more kittens into the world for a total of 15!

We were present for every birth, carefully tracking which kittens belonged to which momma. But that detail quickly became unnecessary, as all three mothers nursed and cared for the kittens indiscriminately. Cheer and Cheebs, under Chia’s watchful guidance, blossomed into confident and attentive mothers.

That summer was a whirlwind of orange fluff, tiny paws, and growing personalities. Watching the trio of moms raise their babies together was a joy, and each kitten left a lasting impression. By the end of the summer, all 15 kittens had found loving homes, and by the end of the year, so had Chia, Cheer, and Cheebs.

We’ll never forget our Summer of Orange—a special crew of moms and babies who reminded us of the power of family, love, and teamwork.

Stay with us this December as we celebrate 15 years of unforgettable stories like Chia, Cheer, Cheebs, and their kittens—tales of resilience, connection, and the second chances every animal deserves.

In celebration of SCSCR’s 15th birthday, we are sharing fifteen years’ worth of stories of animal resilience, unwavering humanity, and radical generosity throughout the month of December. Today's story comes from 2021.

In April 2021, Smokey Joe came to SCSCR from another shelter. Old, completely blind, and in poor condition, Smokey Joe was a special case from the start. We quickly diagnosed him with diabetes and hyperthyroidism and began him on medications, though he made it abundantly clear that he hated taking them.

What Smokey Joe loved, however, was food—all food. His nose worked overtime, and no snack was safe. Pizza was his favorite, but chicken nuggets, french fries, and potato chips were also prime targets for his snatching skills. Despite his blindness, Smokey Joe would launch himself toward any unsuspecting staff member holding a tasty treat.

Smokey Joe ruled SCSCR like the king he was, and his antics kept us laughing daily. His larger-than-life personality and unrelenting appetite made him unforgettable. Though managing his medical needs and mischievous behavior could be a challenge, he captured the hearts of everyone who met him.

By December 2021, Smokey Joe’s body began to give out. We knew it was time to help him cross the Rainbow Bridge while he could still have his best day. And what could be better than his favorite meal? We ordered an entire pizza just for Smokey Joe and let him eat as much as he wanted. He scarfed it down with gusto, surrounded by the people who adored him.

When the time came, we sat with Smokey Joe, telling him how much he was loved and how deeply he would be missed. Though he never found a forever adoptive home, Smokey Joe had a family in us. We were honored to care for him in his final days and give him the love and joy he deserved.

Smokey Joe’s story is a reminder that home is not always defined by adoption—it’s found in the hearts of those who love and care for you. He will forever be remembered as the pizza-loving king of SCSCR.

Stay with us this December as we celebrate 15 years of unforgettable stories like Smokey Joe’s—tales of resilience, love, and the second chances every animal deserves.

In celebration of SCSCR’s 15th birthday, we are sharing fifteen years’ worth of stories of animal resilience, unwavering humanity, and radical generosity throughout the month of December. Today's story comes from 2020.

In May 2020, Mango came into our care, and right away we knew she was extraordinary. A little standoffish at first, Mango had the look of a cat who had seen and survived more than her share of hardship. Her scruffy physique, frostbitten ears, snaggletooth, weepy eye, and scrunched face always made visitors worry she was ill. But there was something about Mango that drew people in—a spirit that shone through her unconventional appearance.

Mango had spent years as an outdoor barn cat, her body worn from Wyoming’s harsh winters. She was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, which had left her scrawny and weak. Mango underwent a dental procedure in May 2021, and what the vet found shocked us all: her face bore the remnants of an old gunshot wound. Bullet fragments were still embedded in her jaw, causing the misalignment and chronic pain she had endured for years. Despite everything, Mango’s resilient spirit never wavered. She woke up each day full of hope, greeting us with her crackly meow and purring through it all.

Mango quickly became a favorite at SCSCR. Volunteers and staff doted on her, hand-delivering her meals and spoiling her with love. Though she never found a forever home, Mango had everything she needed: warmth, safety, and an endless supply of affection from those who adored her.

On August 11, 2021, we said goodbye to our beautiful Mango girl. Her body had grown too tired, but her spirit remained unbroken. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge peacefully, surrounded by the love and care that had sustained her through her final chapter.

Mango’s story is one of resilience, strength, and the power of compassion. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts, reminding us of the incredible spirit of animals who refuse to give up, no matter what life throws at them.

Stay with us this December as we celebrate 15 years of unforgettable stories like Mango’s—tales of survival, hope, and the profound impact of second chances.

In celebration of SCSCR’s 15th birthday, we are sharing fifteen years’ worth of stories of animal resilience, unwavering humanity, and radical generosity throughout the month of December. Today's story comes from 2019.

On Halloween of 2019, we welcomed Quinn and her 5-week-old kitten, Harley. Quinn’s condition was heartbreaking. Emaciated and covered in porcupine quills, she had endured unimaginable pain for some time. One quill had embedded itself in her tear duct, migrating into her sinuses and causing a severe infection that left her right eye blind. Despite her suffering, Quinn never stopped protecting and feeding little Harley.

Our first priority was to remove the quills. Quinn handled the procedure with the quiet strength of a survivor, though her road to recovery was far from over. Weeks of antibiotics and careful monitoring followed, along with a surgery to remove her damaged eye. She remained wary of humans, but she allowed us to help her heal.

Harley, on the other hand, flourished quickly. The tiny kitten embraced the warmth and safety of the rescue, enjoying belly rubs and head scritches from the start. Once healthy, she found her forever home and began her new life filled with love.

Quinn’s journey was slower. Shy and mistrustful of people, she retreated to the safety of her space at the rescue, observing from a distance. But with time and patience, Quinn began to open her heart. Over the summer of 2020, she decided humans might not be so bad after all. She slowly started seeking out treats, belly rubs, and evening cuddles with staff and volunteers.

In February 2021, Quinn’s patience was rewarded—she found her forever home! From a starving, injured mother doing everything to keep her kitten alive, to a cherished companion surrounded by love, Quinn’s transformation reminds us of the power of resilience and trust.

Quinn and Harley’s story embodies everything we stand for: the strength of a mother’s love, the will to survive, and the life-changing impact of compassion.

Stay with us this December as we celebrate 15 years of unforgettable stories like Quinn and Harley’s—tales of courage, healing, and the extraordinary power of second chances.

In celebration of SCSCR’s 15th birthday, we are sharing fifteen years’ worth of stories of animal resilience, unwavering humanity, and radical generosity throughout the month of December. Today's story comes from 2018.

In September 2018, Simon arrived at SCSCR from a high-kill shelter. A massive former colony cat with enormous jowls, Simon was covered in old battle wounds. We knew even before testing that he was FIV+, and we were uncertain how he would adapt to life with the other cats in group housing. But Simon surprised us all.

Far from being a fighter, Simon was a caretaker. He quickly became the “patriarch” of SCSCR, devoting himself to the kittens. He bathed them, snuggled them, and even let them nurse on him for hours. Among the kittens Simon adored, one stood out: a tiny orange tabby named Remy. Wherever Simon went, Remy was right behind him, his constant shadow.

Simon loved all the kittens, but Remy was always front and center in the kitten pile. As Remy grew, it became clear that their bond was unbreakable. Remy wasn’t especially fond of people—he only wanted Simon. By the time Remy reached maturity, they were officially a bonded pair.

In 2019, Simon faced a life-threatening diagnosis: FIP, a fatal feline disease. At the time, a new drug was available, but it came with a steep price. Our staff and volunteers loved Simon so deeply that we fundraised internally to cover the $3,000 cost of his treatment. Over 12 weeks of painful injections—and plenty of tuna bribes—Simon made a miraculous recovery, becoming one of the first FIV+ cats known to survive FIP.

Simon and Remy were adopted together in 2021, but in 2022, their adopters broke up, and neither could keep the cats. Heartbroken, they returned to SCSCR. Thankfully, Simon and Remy found their true forever home in 2023, with one of our amazing volunteers and her husband.

Simon and Remy will always hold a special place in our hearts. Their bond reminds us of the power of love, resilience, and second chances.

Stay with us this December as we celebrate 15 years of unforgettable stories like Simon and Remy’s—tales of courage, devotion, and the extraordinary bonds that make life so meaningful.

In celebration of SCSCR’s 15th birthday, we are sharing fifteen years’ worth of stories of animal resilience, unwavering humanity, and radical generosity throughout the month of December. Today's story comes from 2017.

Nolan’s journey with us began in 2014, when a Good Samaritan witnessed him being thrown from a moving car. Missing two of his legs—his front right and back left—Nolan arrived with bloody stumps, filthy and emaciated. He tested positive for FIV, and his broken little body carried scars from unspeakable trauma.

Nolan’s recovery was nothing short of extraordinary. Veterinarians surgically closed the exposed ends of his stumps. During surgery, they discovered a large tumor on his neck, attached to his spine. Thankfully, it was benign, but it became another scar to heal. Most of his teeth were removed due to severe infection and breakage, and an abdominal hernia was identified.

Despite everything, Nolan showed us the first sparks of his resilient spirit. He went into foster care with a devoted volunteer who fell in love and adopted him. Nolan learned to trust, discovering the joy of chin scratches, cuddles, and his favorite thing of all: food. Fish was his favorite, and he would cry loudly and insistently at mealtime.

Over the years, Nolan faced even more battles. A near-fatal urinary blockage required emergency surgery and a special diet. In 2017 (the year for this story), a cataract and chronic uveitis led to the detachment of his retina, and the eye had to be surgically removed. Nolan became a two-legged, one-eyed warrior cat, and his spirit never wavered.

He spent his years adored by his family, who cherished him as the remarkable survivor he was. He helped care for his two little human sisters, always showing a tenderness and trust that proved how far he’d come.

Nolan recently crossed the Rainbow Bridge, leaving behind an immeasurable hole in all our hearts. His story is one of strength, survival, and love—a testament to how animals can overcome even the worst beginnings when shown compassion.

Stay with us this December as we celebrate 15 years of stories like Nolan’s—tales of resilience, love, and the second chances every animal deserves.

In celebration of SCSCR’s 15th birthday, we are sharing fifteen years’ worth of stories of animal resilience, unwavering humanity, and radical generosity throughout the month of December. Today's story comes from 2016.

In 2016, a young cat endured the unimaginable. Someone spray-painted her purple, shot her in the spine, and left her paralyzed, alone, and abandoned to die. But this cat was unlike any other. When a kind human came by the next day, she pulled herself out from beneath a parked car and demanded to be rescued.

That person saved her and named her Suzie Q. By the time Suzie came to SCSCR, the bullet had already been surgically removed, but much of the purple spray paint remained—an awful reminder of the cruelty she’d faced. At the time, our team had no experience with injuries like Suzie’s, and we weren’t sure what her future would hold.

The first year, we put Suzie in a bubble—her kennel sat at the center of our main room, where she received constant care. Acupuncture, laser therapy, massage, and physical therapy filled her days. Though her condition didn’t improve, her confidence grew. She watched the world around her, ready for her chance to shine.

Finally, a year later, we let her down to scoot around the main room and she showed us what resilience truly means. Using her strong front legs, she zooms around faster than most cats and scales the tallest cat trees with ease. She loves trips outside—yes, even in the snow—and has never let her disability hold her back from living her fullest life.

Today, she is the leader of our office cats and serves as a Feline Ambassador, inspiring humans and animals alike. She reminds us every day that life is not defined by the challenges we face, but by the courage we show in overcoming them. Suzie Q thrives in a world full of love, compassion, and second chances. Her story is a powerful reminder that kindness and determination can rewrite even the darkest beginnings.
