If anyone was wondering if Spalding is a traditional orange cat, the answer is yes. And today is not his day with the shared brain cell (if you know, you know).
Also, he could use a bigger scratching post if someone wants to send him one š

Thank you all so much for your kind words about Friend! He feels so much better today and is making huge strides in his healing. The car that hit him may have broken his jaw, but his spirit is as strong as ever!
Content warning: video shows an injured cat that may be distressing to some.
Friend came to us earlier this week after being hit by a car and left for dead. He has a long road to recovery with several broken bones in his face and paw, but his prognosis is good! We are honored to give this sweet guy his second chance.
Donations toward Friend's medical expenses are greatly appreciated!

Surprise!! Look who is all patched up AND got upgraded to his very own suite! He's still getting used to the big space (we'll add in some more beds and toys to make it extra homey for him). After I took this video he sat in my lap for quite a while, just purring with contentment, and then received some catnip to roll in so I could go back to work without feeling too guilty for leaving him. He's having the best day ever, and we're crying tears of joy for him š„¹
Spalding says: always nip responsiblyā¦ and never play and drive. š·š¾
This brave boy is finally feeling well enough to enjoy some catnip shenanigans. Cheers to healing, second chances, and a little fun along the way! š
First rule of kitten fight club: look adorable while doing it.
These twin brothers just discovered play fightingāand it's equal parts fierce and floppy. š¹
Spalding hopes you are all having a fabulous Sunday evening! He has reached a new stage in his healing journey - ITCHY! Poor guy keeps trying to rub his gooey face all over our hands (which is not pleasant for us and is not sterile for him!). We're trying to give him all the scratches everywhere else to make him feel better. We've learned that Spalding loves belly rubs, hates canned food, and loves Temptations treats. He has an adorable little meow greeting which he refuses to do on camera. All in all, he is doing amazing and is excited to start a new week of healing, love, and joy!
Spalding has made incredible progress, and we are so grateful for all of your support along the way! ā¤ļø
This update might be a little graphic, but we want to show you just how resilient this boy is. The first part of the video shows the necrotic tissue on his cheekāhanging on by a single suture after he scratched the rest off! Our vet had originally sutured the tissue in place to protect the wound and keep the underlying tissue moist.
Yesterday, we sedated Spalding and gave him a major clean-up! The necrotic tissue is now gone, and we carefully debrided and cleaned the exposed area underneath. It was a little scary to see his jugular vein fully exposed, but thankfully, his body had already formed scar tissue around it for protection, so he is not in danger.
The good news?
ā”ļø He had enough healthy skin at the bottom of the wound to suture his throat closed, keeping his vein protected.
ā”ļø While there is still a large area of exposed tissue, it is bright red and granulatedāwhich is exactly what we want to see! That means healthy blood flow and active healing.
ā”ļø His pain is well managed, heās still on antibiotics, and most importantlyāhe is feeling so much better!
Spalding has gained half a pound since arriving, and he is soaking up every bit of love we give him. He has a long road ahead, but every day, he reminds us that he is a fighter.
Thank you for being a part of his journey! Your kindness and generosity are making his second chance possible. Keep cheering for himāheās got this! šš±

Our sweet little frostbitten boy, Delbert, is all healed up from his tail amputation and today he was adopted by his new family! Have an amazing life, buddy, and stay inside where it is safe and warm!
We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support for Spalding! ā¤ļø Every comment, donation, and kind word has meant the world as we help this brave boy heal.
Yesterday, our vet reopened Spaldingās wound for treatment. The necrotic tissue was carefully pulled back so we could fill the open cavity in his cheek with Medi-Honey, a powerful healing agent. The area was then sutured closed again. While the necrotic tissue is not viable, it is serving a purposeākeeping the underlying tissue moist and protected as he continues to heal.
We wonāt sugarcoat itāthis will be a long journey for him. We have him on pain medication to keep him comfortable, and despite everything, Spalding is still eating well, soaking up love, and showing us just how strong he is.
To everyone who has supported his journey, thank you! Your kindness is giving Spalding the second chance he fought so hard to find. We will continue to keep you updated as he heals!

In celebration of SCSCRās 15th birthday, we are sharing fifteen yearsā worth of stories of animal resilience, unwavering humanity, and radical generosity throughout the month of December. Today's story comes from 2022.
In 2022, SCSCR took in dozens of cats from a colony in Clearmont, WY. None were spayed or neutered, and all were relatedāan entire extended feline family. Among them were three heavily pregnant females who were so bonded that we housed them together in a large double kennel. As we got to know them, it became clear that the torbie, Chia, was the matriarch, and the two orange girls, Cheer and Cheebs, were her daughters.
Cheer was the first to go into labor, delivering five beautiful kittens. A terrified first-time mom, she called out to her own mother, Chia, with each contraction. Chia was right by her side, comforting her through the entire labor and even helping clean the newborns as they arrived. Two days later, both Chia and Cheebs went into labor, bringing 10 more kittens into the world for a total of 15!
We were present for every birth, carefully tracking which kittens belonged to which momma. But that detail quickly became unnecessary, as all three mothers nursed and cared for the kittens indiscriminately. Cheer and Cheebs, under Chiaās watchful guidance, blossomed into confident and attentive mothers.
That summer was a whirlwind of orange fluff, tiny paws, and growing personalities. Watching the trio of moms raise their babies together was a joy, and each kitten left a lasting impression. By the end of the summer, all 15 kittens had found loving homes, and by the end of the year, so had Chia, Cheer, and Cheebs.
Weāll never forget our Summer of Orangeāa special crew of moms and babies who reminded us of the power of family, love, and teamwork.
Stay with us this December as we celebrate 15 years of unforgettable stories like Chia, Cheer, Cheebs, and their kittensātales of resilience, connection, and the second chances every an
