Dog & Cat Shelter, Inc. Our Vision: Every home has a loving pet and every pet has a loving home. Our shelter also has individual outdoor runs with inside loafing areas.

Our mission: To be a safe haven for stray and surrendered pets until they can be adopted, rehabilitated or returned to their owner. We have room for individual accommodations for 38 dogs and 98 cats, but have had up to 65 dogs and 165 cats at one time. The shelter has accommodations for new arrivals, for those ready for adoption and for sick or injured animals. We have three 160' x 44' play areas

and a half mile circular walking path, where volunteers regularly exercise the dogs awaiting adoption. The Shelter houses an average of 150 animals per day. We are a No Kill shelter which means we only euthanize for extreme injury, illness or extreme aggression. Our special programs include Better Canine and Senior Dog Project.

Once a month we will be taking a senior dog to the HUB on Smith Street to visit anyone dropping by, February was our first visit! 🐾 Marian and Leia, an 11 year old GSD mix, had a great time sharing the promotion of the Senior Dog Project funded by the Irwin Wilson Foundation. With this donation, a senior citizen can adopt a senior dog and not have to worry about the financial burden, the adoption fee, food and necessary vet expenses are paid! 🐶💚

🌚 Meet Benji 🌚

🖤 Benji is estimated to be a 1 year old Coonhound mix. Boy, does this guy have some energy! He loves meeting new people, however, he's still learning to not jump on them. He get's so excited he just can't contain it! This guy seems to still have a puppy mentality and would benefit with some extra obedience training. He loves spending time outside and going on walks. He can get easily distracted on his walks and likes to lead the way more than following you. Leash training would be important as well for Benji.

🖤 This boisterous boy has a voice to him and isn't afraid to tell you all about it. He definitely has some Hound in him. Benji has a lot of potential and is eager to learn more to benefit his future. From what we've seen at the shelter, he does well around other dogs and we are unsure how he'd do around cats as of right now. He's awaiting your arrival. Just look at his gorgeous shiny coat and big brown eyes. He's hard to resist!

✨ We estimate Hermes to be about 5 years old. He's a pretty relaxed fellow but still loves to play and have a good time. He's very lovable and would be a perfect couch potato. He definitely is a foodie and will go out of his way to steal food. So beware!

✨ Hermes usually likes to spend his days stretched out on the cat beds to soak up the sun through the window. Doesn't take much to please him, just as long he gets plenty of treats and love, he's as content as can be. From what we've seen here at the shelter, he does well around other kitties as long as they're nice. He does well around smaller dogs but would need some time and space around larger dogs. Hermes is ready for a new fresh start in life and deserves a cozy loving home.

🤍 Herbie is estimated to a 14 year old kitty. No, he's not the Volkswagen, but he is quite the love bug! This easy going guy is ready for the home to spend the rest of his life in. It doesn't take much to please him. A cozy place by the window to sun bathe and obviously lots of treats and cuddles is all it takes to steal his heart. We've noticed he's not the biggest fan of being held. He'd rather get around his own way. He would also prefer to be the only furry friend in the household. He wants you all to himself!

💜 This confident guy is estimated to be a 4 year old Akita Shepherd mix. He is a good boy and would be the perfect loyal companion! Axel has not been with us for very long. He's becoming more comfortable during his stay here. This guy would definitely benefit from some extra obedience training, especially on a leash. He gets very excited on his walks and tends to have a mind of his own. He has lots of potential and is willing to try his hardest to be the best boy for you!

💜 Axel loves a good adventure. So much, that he tends to a bit of an escape artist trying to chase all the fun. A fenced yard and supervision would be important for him. He can be a bit picky about the doggo friends he chooses to bond with. We are unsure as of right now how he would do in a household with cats. He adores people, treats, and all the lovins he can get!

🐕 MEET SCOOBY - 2 YRS 🐾 BREED: MIX
Scooby Dooby doo, where are you? We got some work to do! We all have probably heard of his story, running around the town for quite some time and having a rough time finding where he belongs. However, since coming to our care, Scooby has become a favorite for everyone here at the shelter. His super cute face will have you melting over it! He is a very fun guy with lots to say about his life. Meaning he is a very vocal pup, just looking for someone to hear his opinions on everything! Now he isn't too fond of hunting for monsters as he is a bit skittish of the world around him still, but is very attentive with the person he trusts. He is a cuddler for sure, just digging that big head and floppy ears into any open spot he can on you. Now the only other thing is he can be a bit of an escape artist, probably learning from all the monsters he hunted! Taking a moment to show off the dogs during their morning turn out!

Alex is a spunky young cat who loves to play. He does not like other cats, so we have to give him exercise time alone while the other cats are napping.

One of the privileges of both the shelter staff and their dogs, getting to come to work every so often. At times, our dogs are even put to work! They help us test and socialize dogs and cats! #puppies #staffdogs #officedogs

Eros has been with us for a little over 2 years, and for almost all of that time, she refused to leave her kennel. We recently did some rearranging of the kennels, and she was placed in a kennel closer to the floor. Since then, she has started coming out on her own and roaming the front office! We can now see that she is as playful as a kitten!

Enjoy this video of Wutang(3 year old, male, bulldog) and Shrimp(2 year old, male, hound mix) learning how to play with each other! This helped us as staff to see how these dogs would do with other potential dogs around them. All of these dogs are available for adoption. Meet Merle & Melvin! 🐾 These two came to us from a hoarding situation back in February of this year. Due to abuse and neglect, they were taken from their previous owners. They appeared to have no knowledge of the outside world, a safe environment, or stabiliy. However, they have come a long way since they have been here! Merle & Melvin are a bonded pair which means they must be adopted together and not seperated. Patience is the key with these doggies because once they open up, they are extremely loving and very cuddly. Although we are still working with them everyday, they will both need patience and consistency with training. They will require a lot of commitment from you but they are worth it! We are also open for someone fostering them until they find their forever homes! Both of these handsome boys are 5 years old. They will not be able to go into a household with other dogs but they do get along with cats. We encourage questions about these two because these boys deserve nothing but the best! 💕

Our Story

Our new shelter can accommodate roughly 3 times the animals that the old shelter could handle (18 dogs & 48 cats). The old shelter didn’t have facilities to separate animals but the new one has accommodations for new arrivals, for those ready for adoption and for sick or injured animals. The new shelter also has individual outdoor runs with inside loafing areas. We also have three 160' x 44' play areas and a half mile circular walking path, where volunteers regularly exercise the dogs awaiting adoption.
