Tow-Mater can hardly contain his excitement (or himself) for National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day!

🐾August 22nd is National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day!🐾

We've all heard of dog years. Have you heard of cat years? Did you know cats age much faster than we do?

By age 2, your cat is roughly the same age as a 24-year-old person.
Each year after that is like 4 human years! That means skipping an annual vet visit is like you skipping the doctor for half a decade. (check out the graphic in our last slide to learn more about cat years)

Regular check-ups help us catch little problems before they become big ones, keeping your feline friend healthy, happy, and purring for years to come.

Everybody get ready with your wetsuits because Equine “Slobbers” has returned! 💦

What does it look like?
* Excessive salivation from your horse’s mouth. We’re talking spit bubbles, drool puddles, the works! ☔️

* Other than excessive salivation, your horse should act normal. If you notice chewing issues, signs of choke or any other behavioral issues, please contact your veterinarian. 🩺

What causes it?
* Ingestion of a fungus containing slaframine. The fungus grows commonly on clover (red, white, alsike), alfalfa and more. ☘️

How do I stop it?
* Removing your horse from infected hay/pasture usually is curative within 24-48 hrs. Rarely do these horses require medical treatment, with that said adequate hydration is the most important aspect to this disease.

* If unable to remove your horse from affected areas- ensure ample clean, water access. You can also supplement your horse with salt or electrolytes. 🧂

Stay dry out there!

☀🌡 Heat Alert 🌡☀

As temperatures climb, heat stress becomes a serious risk for all pets. At JVC, we’re here to help you protect your pets from dangerous heat exposure.

🐩🐱Dogs & Cats:
• Unlimited access to clean water
• Walk during cooler hours only (early morning or late evening)
• Use the 7-second pavement test: If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws
• Never leave pets alone in parked vehicles, even with windows cracked
• Provide constant access to shade or shelter
• Limit time outside if possible (especially for short nose/brachycephalic dogs and cats like: pugs, French bulldogs and Persian cats).
• Using cooling mats or vests may be helpful for older pets or pets with health issues who struggle to regulate body temperature

🐎Horses:
• Unlimited access to clean water
• Ride early or not at all on high-heat days
• Offer electrolytes and refresh cool water throughout the day
• Provide ample shade and airflow in stalls or pastures
• Use of fans where safe/appropriate
• UV Protection when appropriate
• Hose down with cool (not cold) water if overheating is suspected
• Use of insect repellents, fly masks and or boots to avoid additional stress
• Increase trips to the barn to monitor for heat stress

Watch for signs of heat stress:
Excessive panting , drooling, lethargy , weakness, stumbling, anxiousness, abnormal gum and tongue color, vomiting or diarrhea, dehydration, being drenched in sweat OR the lack of sweat (horses), refusal to eat or move, collapse

If you suspect your pet is overheating, please contact us immediately:
