🚨We will be extending the auction deadline for Basket 16,000!🚨

We did not give this auction the proper amount of attention due to other projects we were doing last week, which you will see in a later post. We apologize for the confusion this caused for some of you!

We’ve decided to allow anyone to place their bid in the comments, or you can also email your bid at [email protected] or send us a text at 260-977-8842. We will start off the bidding at $52. Remember, 100% of the proceeds of this basket will be given to Lyndon, the young man who built this basket (see previous post). The bidding will end on Friday (9/5/25) at 5:00 PM EST.

We recently visited a local woodworker to do some R&D for the shop.

He had amazing projects in his shop, ranging from intricate woodcarvings to burls over 5 feet in diameter. The items we posted here are only a drop in the bucket to all his other projects.

He is a very talented man, but at the same time, he is very humble about his accomplishments. He was more than happy to show us around and also help us with our project. It was an inspiring visit, and you will likely see new products because of it!😉

This wood was too beautiful to not share!😍

It’s always neat seeing a piece of ambrosia tiger maple!

Ambrosia maple is caused by an ambrosia beetle burrowing through the wood to deposit larvae. They carry fungi with them as they go through the wood, which is what caused the greenish brown streaks throughout this piece. This process can ultimately kill a tree, but it can also make the wood more valuable. It doesn’t necessarily affect the structural integrity of the wood once it has been dried.

Tiger maple is caused by irregularities in the growth of the tree. It produces a wavy pattern, perpendicular to the grain, which gives a 3D effect.

To have both of these effects in one piece makes for a remarkable and unique final product!

She has brought many groups to our shop, and she does a great job of supporting the community with her personalized tours. She doesn’t typically bring bus groups, but yesterday was an exception. If you are in the area and you’d like to have a custom guided tour, contact Susan!
