I know it's Christmas time and with that comes what I call "smell good season" where we start burning candles and setting out the scented pine cones, and using air fresheners that make the house smell like we just got done baking Christmas cookies all day because... well, who *actually* has time to bake cookies all day right?!? Did you know that some of the top scents for this holiday season are TOXIC to dogs?!?! I know we focus a lot on what our pups can enjoy for a treat off our plate, but it's super important, especially with bradychephalic breeds like Shih Tzus, Pugs, Boxers, Frenchies (think flat nosed adorableness) that we are paying attention to what we are using to scent the air. Very common scents for this time of year like peppermint, cinnamon, clove, pine, and wintergreen are all TOXIC ☠️ to our canine companions and can lead to respiratory distress and seizures before we even realize what's happening. I'm including a link to a short article that talks about safe and unsafe essential oils for dogs. Consider that a good general guide for picking out scents if you want to make your house smell extra inviting this time of year.
