Happy Check the Chip day, pet parents! A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice, but it can make a huge difference if you become separated from your pet. Making sure your furry friend is microchipped, registered, and has an up-to-date profile are simple yet significant steps to keeping them safe. For more information and a real-life example of a microchip bringing a kitty home, read our newest edu-blog: https://seattleareafelinerescue.org/edu-blog-check-the-chip/

Earlier this week, we got a visit from an old friend. 💕 Pip first came to SAFe in March 2025. This tiny fellow is a total charmer, but his fluctuating digestive issues make him a medical mystery. Test after test proved inconclusive, but Pip’s symptoms don’t seem to phase him. Our team decided on a unique pathway: fospice, or long-term foster care. This way, we can provide consistent veterinary care while giving him a home environment where he can thrive.

Pip is flourishing in his foster home! But every now and then he gets flare-ups requiring a check-in with our medical team. This Wednesday, his foster mom brought him in for a tutorial in his new treatment: weekly B12 shots. SAFe’s Veterinary Assistant, Jordyn walked her through the process so she can start administering the shots at home.

It was a delight reuniting with Pip, but even better is the knowledge that he’s in such able hands. We are truly grateful for our hard-working medical and foster teams for going above and beyond for this special kitty.

Our August Foster of the Month is Sonja! Her foster adventure began with another rescue in 1996. After taking a hiatus to focus on her human family, Sonja returned to fostering in 2023 to help feline families. Her specialty is kitten litters and their nursing mothers.

“Fostering has fulfilled so many things in my life,” Sonja says. Learn more on our blog: https://seattleareafelinerescue.org/foster-of-the-month-sonja/

At first Valley wasn’t so sure about people, but a little time (and treats) helped her out of her shell. Now after 3 weeks, she’s playing, rolling around, and rubbing her face on the door to greet staff. 💕

Valley is proof that, though some cats need more time to show it, they still have so much love to give! If you’re a patient, experienced cat person, Valley is the purrfect girl to share your home with.

You can meet Valley and other adoptable kitties at SAFe’s Adoption Center, open Thurs-Sun, 12-6 PM.

Recovering from ear polyps isn’t easy, but Spiffy has an amazing support network. Her bestie Gavin literally watches over her, her foster mom Rachael has been devoted since day one, and Petfinder Foundation has generously provided funding for her recent surgery.

“Spiffy had a stubborn case of ear polyps - which can have a really negative impact on quality of life in the long-term — chronic infections, loss of balance, and permanent head tilt,” Rachael explains.

Spiffy’s case was particularly aggressive. A previous surgery had proved ineffective, and a CT scan revealed a need for more intensive measures. With support from the Petfinder Foundation, Spiffy was able to receive Ventral Bulla Osteotomy (VBO) surgery, removing the polyp and the lining of her middle ear to eliminate any possibility of regrowth.

“Spiffy is still recalibrating her balance,” Rachael tells us. “But she is expected to make a full recovery so that she can proceed with a lifetime of being an absolute menace and creating chaos with her BFF Gavin.”

SAFe Rescue is deeply grateful for the Petfinder Foundation for helping our brave little Spiffy get crucial medical care. We’re all rooting for you, Spiffy!
