Easter and Mother's Day are two of the most dangerous holidays for cats for one reason: lily poisoning. πŸ’

As a part of our No Lilies for Kitties educational campaign, we're kicking off the series by sharing which species of lilies are toxic to cats. True lilies (Lilium species) and daylilies (Hemerocallis species) are extremely toxic to cats and can potentially cause severe kidney failure. Check out the graphic below for examples, and visit the link below to learn more:

Cat owners and cat lovers, have you heard of Solensia? It's an injectable monoclonal antibody treatment for osteoarthritis in cats. Not sure if your cat may be showing signs of arthritis? Check out this Osteoarthritis Checklist: https://www.zoetispetcare.com/checklist/osteoarthritis-checklist-cat

We also had to share this video with you! Wayne is an 18yr old kitty who has had a few does of Solensia. While we don't have a before video, you can clearly see he is feeling GREAT! This video makes us all smile ear to ear and we hope it does the same for you.

One of our families said goodbye to their dog Simbha recently. Simbha genuinely had one of the sweetest souls we'd ever met. His family shared this beautiful tribute that they wrote:

"Celebrating Simbha's Life
Our hearts are filled with sadness and sorrow. Our dear Simbha crossed the rainbow bridge on Saturday, May 27th in our arms. Simbha gave us 12 wonderful years that we will cherish and treasure in our hearts forever. Our lives will truly never be the same without him.

From the moment we brought him home at 6 months old until his last breath, he was by our side and us by him. It is hard to encapsulate in words everything he meant to us, he was the gentlest soul and loved beyond measure .. he would wake up at the crack of dawn with so much zest and wind down everyday with a long belly rub session. Simbha would take treats out of your hand with the gentlest of licks and greet everyone with so much joy..usually he would bring a shoe as a welcome gift!! Simbha would wait for the UPS truck with immense patience, inspect every box for goodies, made friends with every neighbor and loved to be loved. In the spring he would feel the gentle breeze on his face, during the summer he would stretch out and sunbathe, in the fall he would always get dressed up as a pumpkin and in the winter he ate fresh snow with so much joy..he just loved life! He was so affectionate and would lean up against everyone he met...the love he showered us and everyone who he came across was unconditional ❀

To quote a song we played for Simbha during the last few weeks
β€œSo let's lay down in the tall grass
Dreamin' away
And all I want to do is let it be
And be with you and watch the wind blow by
And all I want to see is you and me
Go on forever like the clear blue sky
Slowly, there's only you and I
And all I want to do is watch the wind blow by”

Our sweetheart Simbha will be so deeply missed and never forgotten. Until we meet again, at the rainbow bridge🌈 ❀️"

This article talks about reasons cats should see a vet annually and why many don't. One of the big reasons is transporting cats to the vet is often stressful. We can reduce that stress by seeing your feline friends in the comfort of their own home!

Cats go to the vet less than half as often as dogs, even though they require routine medical care. Here's why it's important to go.

This boy. Max - the King of Cats. With me for 12+ years. Always gentle. Always wanting to be where I was, with at least one paw in contact with my body. Best traveler ever - open the door to the kitty carrier and he sidles in and makes himself at home - and then, "enjoys the ride" in the car. Greete...

‼️HEAT ALERT‼️
Be mindful of the heat today & keep your pets safe! This means no heavily exercising pets outside & no pets in parked cars. If you do take your dog for a short, evenly paced walk, always check the pavement’s temperature with your bare hand or bare foot. As it gets chillier out, please make sure to keep hand and feet warmers out of reach of you pets! Luckily this sweet pup was okay, but these common household winter items can be dangerous to curious pets.

When the temperatures plummet, many people turn to chemical hand warmers to keep toasty when working or playing outside. What many people don’t realize, including pet lovers, is that many hand warmers contain iron and can be highly toxic to pets. Before temperatures get too cold this year, the tox...

11/02/2021

Here is a great reference for knowing how your pet may be triaged if you bring them to an emergency or after hours center! The whole veterinary world is struggling to keep up and provide pets with the care they need. Please remember that if you go to an emergency or after hours clinic and have to wait that is a good thing. You don't want to be in a situation where your pet is rushed to the front of the line. We all appreciate your kindness and patience during these tough times.

For the past year and a half, several times a week, we "shut down" receiving, meaning we stop taking in cases because we simply don't have another open kennel or enough staff to care for them. We understand that having a pet turned away can be scary for pet owners, and frustrating for our team who want to provide care. So, we're instituting a new, color-coded system to better triage our patients, and we're sharing it with you. We hope that by empowering pet owners with this knowledge, we can help more pets that need emergency care.

We have a family who found two stray male kittens that are in need of a home! They currently are about 11 weeks old and are up to date on age appropriate veterinary care and vaccines (they have not yet been tested for FIV/FELV due to their age). The kittens are bonded and should be adopted together. Please reach out if you or someone you know may be interested!

06/10/2021

We have missed coming into homes to see your pets where they are most comfortable! We do still have the ability to see pets in our hospital van or outside when appropriate if you or your pet would prefer that option.

Another update we wanted to share is that there has recently been a significant increase in the demand for at home veterinary care (and all veterinary care in general). Especially since we are certified in Hospice and Palliative Care, we are working hard to balance home visits for pets for wellness preventive care and also sick patients and end of life visits. Currently, this means we are scheduling most preventive care visits further out in our schedule than we were in previous years. We appreciate your understanding and ask that you schedule your preventive care visits in as much advance as possible so that we can find a day that works best for you and your pets!
