Dog park will be closed Thursday - Sunday for ground treatment.
Another friendly reminder that there is to be no dog dishes/water bowls left nor sharing between dogs while at park. It’s a nice intention, but it is the easiest way for dogs to get sick. Any bowls left by tomorrow night will be thrown away.
The water coming out of the culvert is spring fed and there is a spigot across the street.

For my fellow dog owners:
This post is about Xylitol. It was removed from many peanut butters because dogs were dying from it a few years back. But this weekend I made an almost fatal mistake and left my ice breakers cube gum in the living room. I was outside mowing when my mom came out and said your dogs got into gum and Loki and Mowgli also threw up. “Sigh” I walk inside and see Mowgli on the couch looking off and then proceed to tell him to get off the couch. He looked like he was drunk and his back legs kept giving out. I immediately went to the gym packaging and found that xylitol was first ingredient in it. Loki at this point was normal acting. So off we went to what was supposed to be rochester emergency vet, they were full and couldn’t treat him, so to orchard park we went. On the way we called the dog poison line, which is the same line a vet uses for guided treatment because the amount of xylitol in products is proprietary only they know amount of xylitol in it. So Mowgli was started on dextrose drip because it causes dogs pancreas to secrete 2-7x amount of normal insulin. Basically this is like giving a huge dose of insulin to a normal healthy person. Insulin is needed to transport glucose into cells like muscles and other organs, however your brain does not need insulin in order for it get glucose. Having too much depletes the blood of a healthy amount of glucose that your brain needs which can result in death if not treated promptly. So Mowgli ate a meal right before this so we were okay for now. Next the vet told me liver necrosis is our next worry. So he stayed for several days. As expected his liver values reflected acute liver damage and he was started on liver protectants. He’s home now with almost normal liver function. He’s a 50lb dog who ate 13 pieces and threw them up almost immediately. (Loki had 6 and weighs 72lbs) Resulted in multi day stay at vets and cost $3,000. So moral of the story, be mindful of where you place your gum.

Just a friendly reminder this is a volunteer run dog park, the village is not responsible for repairs so anyone with wood working skills is allowed to fix the door/gate. The other gate was broken by dog owners… just a friendly reminder to keep the dogs off gates, humans no leaning on them or kicking the gate open (how the slate broke in the first place).

Both dog parks are open! Please remember to follow the rules. Clean up after your dog. And don’t let your dogs bombard the entrance gate while other dogs are coming in. We will have a spring cleaning day in the near future for those of you who so frequently comment on our page, please show up and volunteer. In the past there have only been 2 people who have come out… Remember actions speak louder than words:)

Additionally, we are going to trial keeping the park open longer since daylight is shorter during the winter. We will be installing some LED solar motion sensor lights and putting up some cool bright LED rope lights along part of the fence (where most p**p is found). New park hours 7am-9pm. Why til 9pm? We anticipate solar charge of the led lights will stay on until then.

THE LARGE DOG Park IS CLOSED. Please stop shutting gates and using it. We are expecting delivery of wood chips and mulch and every time the truck comes, someone closes the gates and has their dogs in it. This keeps delaying the reopening. As a reminder as well, the park is closed when dark and if it’s wet enough to leave a dog print. If you need a flashlight to see things, then it’s closed. We have numerous volunteers that are frustrated with the number of p**p piles left in the park. So please, follow the rules.
Hoping to get the park opened up within the next week or so. Still have to repair the wooden fence that was kicked in to the point of breaking and as stated above wood chips/mulch.

Additionally if anyone has any information on who keeps tearing down the park is closed signs we would much appreciate it.
