from POLA'S mom....

My name is Pola and so far I've had three different journeys in life. The first one began about five years ago in Florida when a lady said she would take care of me. I'm not sure what I did because I was a puppy but she didn't like me anymore, so she packed her things and moved away without me. Although I was only six months old, had no food or a place to call home, I knew I h

ad to be strong. I roamed the streets and ran away from every stranger that came my way because I didn't trust them and because I'm a very fast runner. Then, a hot summer afternoon, another lady and her dog approached me. I trust dogs, so I let them convince me to come with them but then the lady said they couldn't keep me but they would take me "home". On the way back to the address on my tag, I recognized a man who tried to catch me a few days earlier. He was my Dad and he would be the one to take me Home. That's when my second journey began! I met Mom and she fell head over heels for me, I also met my brother who became my best friend. After nursing me back to health, we had amazing times together every single day. My favorite things to do included running around the backyard with my brother, fetching my bouncy ball, riding in the car with Mom, eating bananas with Dad, and sunbathing under the Florida sun. We then moved away because Mom got a job offer in Texas, where the fun continued because I had a backyard for running and sunbathing, my parents packed my toys, and they also sell bananas there, so I was all set. The best thing of all is that this time the move included me! To celebrate my parents' anniversary, we all went on a family road trip back to Florida. Road trips are my favorite and I was going to see my family there, so I was ready to go! As we were driving through Louisiana, we were suddenly struck by a distracted driver. After the car stopped spinning, I realized I couldn't feel or move my legs anymore. Mom pulled me out of the car and gave me to a wonderful lady who promised to take care of me and my brother while Mom and Dad went to the hospital, and she did. So many other kind people got together and they all tried to help me out so that I could keep running and living my life but it was not to be because a new journey was about to begin. My third and final journey began when I felt my legs again running across the Rainbow Bridge and it was great! I watch over my family from here, I also watch over other dogs who have had a tough life and need to feel the love that I felt when my family found me. There's nothing like a second chance at life and that's what I wish for all dogs who don't know what Home is... yet.

Basket from Ivy and Stone drawing extended to April 14, 2025.

We did another thing this week. I was reading the story about Benji at Caddo and immediately tagged him.
So his back story is he was sold or given away on FB and within a few days after getting a new home, he was surrendered to Caddo. Then he was immediately adopted, however, he wasn't fixed. So he sat there for 2 weeks waiting to get fixed. His adopter was notified he was ready and they had changed their minds. U G H
So WELCOME TO POLA BENJI.
He will be going for grooming this week at the amazing Howling Hotel with Melody.
This is why we do the fundraising throughout the year. Remember Prissy and Sebastian from Caddo? Well, they have some major reactive behaviors we are working on before we can even think of moving them. We've taken them to Robinson's Rescue Low Cost Spay/Neuter 2 times and that did not go well.
Oh and also now 501c3 are required to pay Caddo $50 if we tag a dog within 7 days of it be fixed. That can literally buy a medium bag of food. It seems to just keep getting tougher and tougher and financially, it is a HUGE struggle.
Please help us to be able to continue to help these babies. We can not do anything without your help.

POLA has an amazing raffle going on right now. Ivy and Stone has donated this beautiful basket worth over $200. POLA is adding a POLA tshirt to go with it. All the details are in the pic below.

We really need your support right now. We have 8 dogs we are getting ready to take to vet for their rabies and one that has developed a growth and skin issues. This adds up so so quickly. I'll be updating all of our dogs that are available in the next week.
Feeding, vetting and just daily care of all the POLA dogs at our little shelter is so expensive. Once they are saved and we have tagged them, the hardest part is finding fosters and adopters. We have to take care of the dogs we have before bringing new dogs in. We still try to help as many as we can, however, right now, it's been extremely slow.

If you could please support these POLA babies and buy a chance or 2 on this beautiful gift basket and tshirt, it all adds up.
As always, I appreciate your support and for loving the POLA Babies. THANK YOU

Earlier today Carla posted about King.
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BX5MhHGbG/

If you don't know the story of King, please read. Carla found him in 2018 and has literally nursed him back to health from day one. The many complications of him being diabetic have been a difficult road but Carla never gave up on him. He has had many many up and downs, very difficult to regulate, but Carla never gave up. It was thought at one point he had cancer, had surgery and healing from the surgery was very difficult and he wasn't healing properly because of the diabetes but Carla never gave up. Carla has fostered him since day one because adopters weren't lining up to adopt an older diabetic dog.
Normally if a dog throws up and has diarrhea, you know it's not an emergency. But when King got sick today, being diabetic, not eating, not being able to get his insulin, you know it's an emergency. And Carla knew. King has been at Valor all day today. Carla has been on the phone getting updates and earlier tonight went to visit. King's body was so tired, 12 yrs old, very rough start for the first 5 years of his life. 2018 was the beginning of life for King. He was on his own, starving, hw pos, full of hooks and everything else imaginable and diabetic. Carla has given King the very best life that boy could possibly have had. Carla never gave up.
Tonight she told King to be strong, rest easy and that she loved him. She told him to fight if he could. Sadly, King's body just couldn't fight anymore. Carla's King is now running free and eating anything he wants.
πŸ’”πŸ’” WE LOVE YOU KING

If you would like to donate to King's bill today,

Our Venmo received something last night and is locked. We don't know what is going on but, we are working on it.
Please keep Carla in your prayers. Thank you Carla for loving King.

Our long term hospice foster, King, is at Valor Emergency Clinic right now. He has been a diabetic since we found King in 2018. His diabetes has been hard to regulate over the years, but he has received excellent vet care to get him healthy. Overnight, he became very sick with vomiting and diarrhea. Refuses food and treats, which is so unlike him. He is very dehydrated and has continuous diarrhea. Possible diagnosis is major gastro issues OR diabetic ketoacidosis (this can be very dangerous). He has to stay for round the clock care for 48-72 hours. This is going to be very expensive and we can't afford this vet bill without your help. Quote is up to $3,000, which includes 24-7 care, fluids and meds, glucose tests, different blood tests and urinalysis, and possibly radiographs. If you can donate to help us with this vet bill, we would appreciate your support, big time!

πŸ’™You can call your donation to Valor Veterinary Emergency Hospital for King's care (POLA Foundation) at 318-725-5990
OR pay through PayPal at [email protected]

πŸ’™Backstory of King: Carla found him emaciated, weak, all alone in a field in the middle of the hot summer in 2018. She begged POLA to jump in and help him so we did. He was extremely malnourished to the point he looked like a bag of bones, plus he was heartworm positive, and full of hookworms. He was very sick and we spent a lot of time at the vet with him. He turned out to be diabetic. It took a lot of TLC to get him healthy. With King being so malnourished, getting his insulin balanced was very difficult. It took a while to put weight back on him because he had to be on prescription food. So he has had expensive special prescription food and insulin he needs twice a day. With the cost of his care being so high, no one ever adopted King. He has been in long term foster care with our Carla for a couple of years now where he has been living a happy life with excellent care.

CAN YOU SPARE A FEW HOURS A WEEK OR A MONTH?
Let me be real real for a few minutes. Rescue - it doesn't stop when we bring in a dog. That's just a very small part of it. We still have to pay vet bills, get the dog healthy, work with dogs who have behavior issues, socialize them, clean up after them, feed them, bath them and hope and pray someone can see the loving soul of the dog.
POLA does operate a small shelter at Wagville. Dana comes every weekend to help me. There are a few others that come when we get in a bind and I appreciate it so much. It cost at a minimum of $600 a month in food and basic vetting to keep these babies here. I have personally been funding their boarding, and I don't get it for free either.
I can not continue to do everything that needs to be done. I can not financially continue to pay for everything. I appreciate all of our supporters and donors so much.
So my point here is POLA needs a few volunteers who can come to the rescue on a weekly or monthly basis to help with the POLA babies and the property. We also need monthly donors if we are going to continue.
Here's an example, Prissy and Sabastian. Yes they ended up being friendly BUT they have some issues which makes them unadoptable at this point. I took them to be fixed Monday and literally Sabastian laid down in the middle of my 2nd row and absolutely would not come out. Prissy was so scared and was growling at everyone, so I brought them back to work with them and socialize them.
We have alot of property work we need help with and also help with the dogs. I can be there anytime. If you are interested, please let me know. You'll get to play with the dogs but we need help working outside on the property. We have holes where the dogs have dug in the yard and the rest of the dig defense put in.
IF YOU ARE AVAILABLE TO BE PART OF OUR TEAM AND SUPPORT THESE BABIES, PLEASE REACH OUT.
IF YOU CAN HELP US FINANCIALLY, PLEASE REACH OUT
I WOULD LOVE TO GET SOME OF THIS DONE THIS WEEKEND.
I appreciate you all so much THANK YOU

πŸ”΅πŸ”΅THE RESCUE STORY OF
PRISSY AND SEBASTIAN OUT OF CADDOπŸ”΅πŸ”΅

This may be a little long so please bear with me.
I had seen on fb about the dogs abandoned by the lady who got evicted. Melissa made a post about the 2 dogs that were brought to Caddo.

https://www.facebook.com/share/v/15dhTfco7d/?mibextid=wwXIfr

So Wednesday was eu day for them at 3pm. Something was telling me to go see them and possibly they were just fearful. So I call Dana and she gladly meets me up there. We were there about an hr and a half and while he was out of the kennel, he was not willing to walk out. We spoke to Travis and asked him to please give them a bit more time. We discussed sedating them to get them out. Now that was scary as heck to me, sedating 2 dogs that no one can get out. Well, we agreed to go back today.
I went to bed last night and woke up this morning questioning myself. What if they were just aggressive. What the heck was gonna happen.
Well, Both dogs were sedated and loaded into my SUV. Dana and I both headed back to unload these 2 dogs. I drove like a crazy person to get back because I didn't want either fully waking up.
Now the male, yellow dog never was completely out. He was out enough he could do anything but make some weird noises. Oh let me back up, the female, black dog, was loaded first. Then the male, yellow dog was loaded and when he was laid in the back, he literally somehow snuggled up to the female and started wagging his tail.
So Dana who is AMAZING picked each one up and put in a gazebo. We had arranged them so the doors were facing the back play yard. They were both woke up enough and when I tell you, both of their tales never stopped wagging they are still wagging.
Now he barks at everyone but he walks up and wags his tail. She is actually very submissive and the quiet one.
Now if you have seen the video in Melissa's post, you would think she would chew you up and spit you out.
We are committed to working with these 2 to get them ready for a real home. They are both a few days short of being 1 yr old. They both need to be fixed and fully vetted.
VIDEOS IN COMMENTS
They will not be ready in a day or a week. He's got some quirks but nothing horrible.
As I was watching them run and play this afternoon, I knew we had done the right thing and that had it not been for gut feelings and Melissa's post, both would have been eu yesterday.
