Kizzy's Place began in September of 2015 when a cat from the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter named "Skidz" caught the eye of our founders. This poor kitty had been hit by a car and had unknown injuries on top of suffering from an upper respiratory infection and was going to be euthanized if rescue didn't step up. With no rescues able to help him we decided to do it ourselves. With an offer to

donate towards care, an offer to foster, and an offer to transport to the vet for much-needed medical care we were able to save this boy's life. He was renamed Kizzy and lived with founder and Director, Blake Martin until his unfortunate passing in the fall of 2019. He is the catalyst for everything we've done and we honor his legacy by how we save going forward. Since our humble beginnings, we've been able to save over 1,000 animals in the South Jersey and Philadelphia area since 2015. As a small foster-based rescue this number is staggering and something we are truly proud of. Our focus is the sick, scared, injured, and forgotten animals. This philosophy has led to some referring to us as "The Island of Misfit Cats," a nickname we proudly accept. Our goal is simple. Provide care for these forgotten animals and when they are ready find their happy ending. We are exclusively volunteer-run and donor funded and are so thankful for all of the people who have contributed towards our mission and to those who have opened their homes to some of our wonderful animals. Kizzy's Place is a place for friends. Kizzy's Place is a 501c3 nonprofit operating in the New Jersey and Philadelphia regions. This , we’re sharing Captain’s story—and an exciting opportunity to make a big impact!

Every donation made today through Facebook, PayPal, or Venmo will be matched by an anonymous donor up to $1,000, doubling your support for the animals who need us most.

Captain’s journey is one of resilience and love. He was found in Philadelphia with a severe leg wound, unable to bear weight on it—but his sweet and vocal personality shone through even in the toughest moments. When his feeder and our friends at Philadoptables reached out for help, we didn’t think twice.

Through surgery, care, and countless vet visits, Captain showed us his incredible strength. We also learned he has FeLV (feline leukemia), a condition that requires extra care as his immune system is compromised. While cats with FeLV may have shorter lifespans, they can live happy, love-filled lives—and they deserve just as much care and a forever home as any other cat. Captain is living proof of that, and his courage inspires us every day.

For nearly 10 years, we’ve been rescuing forgotten, injured, sick, and abandoned animals across South Jersey and Philadelphia. Your support helps us continue this mission and provide second chances to incredible animals like Captain.

A friend of ours asked us to help a sick, friendly cat found in a colony and offered to foster him. Greygore could barely open his eyes. We got him to our vet for testing and treatment. He was diagnosed with infected pillow foot, pneumonia, and severe anemia, and he had fluid in his abdomen and suspected entropion eyes. He was too far gone to be saved, and we had to choose to humanely euthanize him. For 2 days he was so loved and cared for. He will not be forgotten. He mattered to us. Thank you for getting him help Rayelle Walters. We are relieved he is no longer suffering outside in pain.

We wish we could have helped him sooner. If you see an animal in need, please act swiftly. This boy was suffering outside for a long time.

We do still have a $732 bill to pay for Greygore's care. Any donations allow us to continue helping cats like Greygore.

Please consider donating via this post, by calling Clementon Animal Hospital at 856-784-2304 to pay our bill, via PayPal.me/kizzysplace or via Kizzys-Place on Venmo. Thank you so much for your support.

It’s the time of year for decorating with festive plants and flowers—so it’s also time for a reminder that some plants shouldn’t be within reach of your pets. While this isn’t a complete list, we’ll highlight a few of the most common problematic holiday plants.

Number one on the list is poinsettia. According to The Sill, a household plant blog, poinsettia sap can cause mouth and stomach irritation and even induce vomiting. They suggest substituting with a holiday or “Christmas” cactus, which blooms in time for the holidays and only causes mild stomach upset when eaten in large quantities.

If kissing under the mistletoe is on your holiday to-do list, skip the real thing and go with artificial. The Food and Drug Administration says mistletoe ingestion can cause gastrointestinal problems, difficulty breathing, and weakness due to low blood pressure or slowed heart rate.

Amaryllis is also toxic to cats and dogs and can cause both gastrointestinal distress and tremors. Holly leaves and berries, oil from pine trees, and water in pine tree stands may also pose risks.

If you add a new plant to your home, take the time to find out whether it will create any health concerns for your furry friends. And as always, if your pet is showing signs of illness, contact your vet immediately.

Let’s ensure the only surprises in your home this holiday season are happy ones!

Great information!

Great information!

It's ! 🌬️❄️🏠🌡️🐈 When we teach folks how to build winter shelters for stray and feral community cats, we insist that these shelters should be lined with straw for bedding. NO hay, blankets, towels, or cat beds — no exceptions! Why is this so important?

Hay and straw may look similar, but they're very different materials. Often still greenish, hay is dried grass or alfalfa that is used as animal feed. Because it's food, hay can attract other animals to cat shelters. It also easily absorbs water from rain, snow, or breath condensation. Like hay, cat beds, towels, and blankets (even fleece!) easily absorb and hold water. Wet bedding can make cats sick from mold or hypothermia, and may even freeze solid.

Fresh straw is yellow and glossy, and it consists of the hollow stems of grain crops like wheat or oats. Unlike hay or fabric bedding, straw tends to stay fluffy and dry, creating toasty pockets of warm air where kitties can snuggle. Cats can burrow into straw, making a cozy custom nest that hugs their bodies and holds in their body heat.

Now is a great time to get straw for your winter cat shelters! Ask your neighbors, community festivals, local stores, restaurants, religious organizations, orchards, and others that use straw as autumn decorations if you can take it when they're done. And hardware, garden, craft supply, and other stores often sell straw at reduced prices after Halloween.
