Todays tip: Just because the calendar says Nov. 15th, doesn’t mean it’s time to ask your horses for all they have.

Know your horse. Know what they can handle, how much pressure, how much stress, how
much speed, and how sound they are.

At these early shows I would argue it’s more important to build confidence than shut the clock off. If you have a strong confident horse… by all means, send em! But if you don’t, don’t undo months of work and blow that horses confidence to pick up a check for the last hole. You’re building this horse for life… don’t forget that.

>>>It’s not that Futurity horses don’t make rodeo or super-show horses later, it’s that people pushed them for more than they were ready for, too soon. A good solid horse, will always be a good solid horse.

Remember when you are frustrated and disappointed in the outcome at a barrel race that this is a different game.

This isn’t your city league ball team playing against normal people.

This isn’t your normal hobby league that practices a couple days a week.

The barrel race is unique.

Where else can you compete in the same arena in the same drag as your idols?

You can ask advise from world champions or multi-million dollar earners.

You are playing the game with “The Professionals”.

Sometimes you outrun them. Sometimes you learn from them.

What a great time to be a barrel racer.

Little things can make a huge difference

Sometimes a small adjustment can change everything.

There are times that something as simple as hand placement on a rein or adjusting your weight in a stirrup will change the way a horse works.

We don’t always need to have a new drill or a new bit or some crazy new fad.

Sometimes it is just simple horsemanship and looking at cause and effect.

Bully Bully Bang🧨
Betty running 6th in the 1D out of 120 today in Wickenburg. Last week she was 2nd in the 1D in Tonopah.
Some horses are just FUN to run and she’s one of them. I grin ear to ear running her because of her pure grit and HUGE heart. You can’t make a horse try like this.

Lane is one of the coolest horses I've had the pleasure to own. Free runner, laid back, honest, super easy to haul, quiet in the alley. Fancy broke. Just a fun horse to have on the road. Vegas Quick Sand “Mojave” 🐍 running middle of 2D at Big Tree in Wickenburg.
I made a simple adjustment to my riding on Mojave and he has been working outstanding. Sometimes as a trainer we have to adjust for each horse that comes in. Whether they were trained another way or a “different” style riding suits them better. Studying runs and trying new things instead of running to the vet or changing head gear. Sometimes it’s as simple as where you place your eyes👀 At least this time it was🤭

I keep seeing all the barrel racing statistics….Kassie won a million…..Hailey won 4 titles, placed or won in all these rounds….And all that is awesome!! I’m so happy for them!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

But here was a statistic that blew my mind🤯
I googled who won the most NFR averages??!! I figured it might be Lisa & Louie but no…it was Charmayne! She’s won 7 total! With two different horses! Scamper won 6 average titles out of his 10 yrs. But the most mind blowing statistic of all, to me, was….

For 10 years Scamper only missed running in ONE round at the NFR…..That means he made 99 runs at the Thomas & Mack and in those 99 runs….

HE ONLY EVER HIT 3 BARRELS!!🤯🤯🤯

He placed in 56 of those 99 runs and WON 20 of those 56! He placed in 12 rounds in a row! That means he placed in every round one year then came back a whole year later and placed in the first two rounds to make 12 in a row!! And the ground was seriously sh*tty then!!🤣😂🤣I mean if we’re gonna blame the ground for hit barrels in today’s times!😳🤭

Bigger, faster, stronger bloodlines in today’s times or not…..idk to many horses or barrel racers that can make 99 runs under the heaviest pressure and only hit 3 barrels!!

Now that to me is one hell of a statistic!🤯

A year ago I purchased “Tripp” and broke him. He’s seen the actual pattern very little but I wanted to see where he was at and he tells me he’s ready for me to let him work! Still young so needs help with leads but at some point ya gotta rip the bandaid off🩹!! This was his second full cruise through EVER🤩 He will start getting hauled for time onlys in December.

Copper Dug has been cleared for work! He tore his meniscus in May playing in his pasture in true Copper fashion. No hate comments on the second cinch… we are working on it🐽
I’ve never seen a horse be SO excited to be saddled😋

I know there are a lot of people who are rehabbing this year so I’ll share what I did.
At initial diagnosis I did a renovo shot and shock wave. Stall rest was out of the question as it would be torture for him. Instead I put him in a smallish pen next to some old farts to keep him chill. Half way through he was checked again and still showed some inflammation (as expected) so continued hand walking and then moved to ponying him and trotting more to strengthen the muscles around the meniscus and just last week he was cleared completely. He was on two pumps Osteo-Max the entire time.
