PRO TIPS on trophy care! With the forecasted warm temperatures this season, it's very important to follow a few steps to ensure you don't have a disappointment at the taxidermist.

1- Keep your deer out of the sun and in a cool place until you can cape it. Hanging upside down is the preferred method. Laying a deer on its side can cause fluids to pool and increases bacteria growth.

2- Get your deer caped to the base of the skull as soon as possible. Your taxidermist will do this for you if your not comfortable doing it.

3- When caping your deer, do not leave an excess of neck on it. With some work ,you can get it pretty close to the skull (see picture). Leaving a lot of neck in will hold heat and increase the chance of hair slippage.

4- When skinning/caping your deer, skin it as clean as you can. Leaving excessive amounts of meat on the hide will increase bacteria growth and can cause hair slippage. (See picture)

The deer in the pictures was caped and brought in within 24 hours. This hunter did it correctly!
