Just wanted to share one of out pup testimnials......
Keith and Michelle,
Just wanted to drop a quick note about Hoss...
He is by far the most intelligent, out going, obedient, and happy dog I've ever seen. He is now 14 weeks old, and although he owns several leashes, we don't have a need for them. At 12 weeks after a few minutes of training, he knew how to heel on my left side. And we go for three or four walks a day without a leash. He also knows to stay out of the street, but that he picked up on his own, and even on walks he won't stray from the path or sidewalk unless I do.
He pays attention to his name, and comes running when we are outside if he's called, but inside he's never more than a few feet from me. Even on weekends or when I'm on vacation from work, he comes with me to run errands, instead of leaving him at home.
He has been sleeping a bit later, but I wake him up by five thirty in the morning so we can spend some time together before work. He has also learned how to get in his kennel on command.
Hoss and I are now members of Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited, and our local park (which happens to be the largest in Wisconsin) has a special area for dog training where you can use live ammunition and birds. We go every Saturday morning to work on training. We have met some nice people and dogs there, and there was even an eight month old lab Hoss showed up during training by bringing the duck back with the older dog, and being much more obedient. Everyone was amazed because I have never taught him anything, he just seems to pick up commands instantly and forever.
He is not afraid of live gunfire, even though it was a few hundred yards away and only a .22. He didn't even flinch at any time the gun went off.
Something else I was impressed with that you may or may not have noticed is how dogs get "bird crazy" and it shows in them whenever they are in a truck or field... But Hoss doesn't get that way. He just does what someone tells him to. It's very impressive.
He is now 18lbs, and we went to the vet last weekend, there are no problems and the vet said he has to be one of the healthiest dogs they've seen in awhile.
His tail starts at five am, and doesn't stop until around nine pm. He is always interested in new dogs and new people, and every weekend we try to meet new friends or old friends. He has never had a problem with anyone or any person.
Today we got some snow, and I attached a video of Hoss playing in the snow while I was shoveling. Even then he doesn't use a leash and I don't worry about him as he will stick within about 20 feet of me. If I walk away he follows me. Our neighbors wife doesn't like dogs, but she loves Hoss, and Hoss loves her. And almost every day Hoss goes next door to play with their daughters.
Keith and Michelle, I know I said it before, but I feel I have to say it again, thank you so much for my new friend. We spend a lot of time together, and even though I look forward to hunting every year, I'm looking forward to this year more than ever.
I have to say, Hoss is the perfect balance of hunter and family dog. And more importantly, he is a great buddy to me.
I hope the holidays were good for you, your family, and your dogs. And again, thank you for everything. I am grateful beyond words.
