#Teamemmett did the stairs to heaven and the ditch of death. Took 2 sessions to get him to want to go into the ditch but he seems to enjoy it. Pawed like a banshee for a good while. Now time to wash my cinch.

Worked on following a feel with this 5yr old colt in for starting. Things around the legs can be very scary to a horse. Without legs they die so they are protective of them. But developing a deep understanding of feel to a horse is extremely important so they can understand what we are asking.
👉Do you incorporate leading by the leg and rope your horses feet at home? Why and why not?
.
A lot of folks ask to much to soon and to often on colts and older horses. Just being a passenger is great exercise for you and the horse to adopt and develop.
Great day to ride enjoy your Friday!

BEAUTIFUL DAY to ride! This girl came to our Horse Development Week and decided to stay a little longer and continue making progress. She was very evasive to the bit, unbalanced and high headed, hollow backed. I’ve been teaching her the opposite of that and how to follow a feel and learn to relax. Not forcing head down but through feel and psychology.

Very short clip of a horse in for Horse Development Week. The horse moved with a hollow back and high head which resulted in a rough trot, rushing canter departs amongst other things.
You CANNOT force or really just ride a horse to relax and be fluid and smooth it doesn’t do any good at all.
What we can do is teach a horse to line out and use their bodies in a balanced manner. Once they understand the reins and legs we can use that to get them balanced and they’ll get comfortable and seek that fluid softness we all want.

Last day of HD week. Tomorrow is the clinic weekend. After some good arena training it’s good to get them out on the trail
.
Horse Development Week continues. Come snow rain and sleet we’re out making horses.

Lateral flexion.
You need it. You really need it at all gaits. Every time you ask for it. Nose follows reins, feet follow nose.
