Remount Horsemanship Inc. Foundational training for horses.Horsemanship using feel, classical and vaquero techniques.
(38)

Traditionally, the Military Remount program provided horses with a solid foundation in areas such as noise and movement confidence, trail basics, dressage basics, and general fitness, before starting them out on their career. We dream of a world where modern horses have the same benefits of foundation training before becoming eventing, dressage, trail, or reining specialists etc. We believe that

this will help many horses lead happier and more fulfilling lives and help to keep their owners safe. It is never fun to ride a horse that spooks explosively at horse shows or jigs when ridden out of the arena. Many of these issues can be avoided when the horse is offered a comprehensive early education. Foundation training is the most important training you can do and often the most overlooked.

Day 2 of Ranch Camp 2024 was filled with fun, laughter and lots of folks had lots of firsts. Started with roping basics, dragging the dummy and logs, rope handling and horse confidence. Followed by some long trotting and practicing the pen work and bud box before the big herd was worked on day 3, then real deal started. Everyone roped and caught and stretched em out. Had some tight times some rougher times but the good times rolled!! Once again can’t thank the students, Natalie Peterman and the ranch hosts enough for this great weekend. A TON of work goes into this deal but it’s so worth it and I look forward to more!!

Ranch Camp 2024
Wow time goes by fast when you’re having fun!
Wrapped up our 3 Day Ranch Experience here in NC. I don’t know how much more we can teach and pack into 3 days. It doesn’t get more “ranchin” than this. From gathering cattle, holding them in rodear, we don’t have an arena. Pulling bulls from the cows and trailing them to the trailer, trailer loading bulls from horseback, stripping 70 or so calves from mommas and processing them in the pens and chutes. From Roping basics to roping and branding and castrating. Working on the cutting flag And horsemanship.
The conversations, the camaraderie the food the learning, the experiences were just amazing.
Huge thank you to all the students who were here from 3
States, our wonderful host facility and the amazing Natalie Peterman for her exquisite photos that always impress!! I didn’t get many because I was busy and Natalies are way better! But more
Pictures are coming!

Up for your consideration is our Project Remount Misty. Below is her dream horse ad and YouTube link to her video.
She’s been an absolute joy to have in our barn and in my program. She is sweet and gentle. Tries very hard to please and has come a long way with us. Like all my Project Remount horses it’s time to market them when I start really enjoying them and want them for my own.
She has awesome gaits, no quirks. Shes be phenomenal in western dressage and has the looks and gaits for just about anything.
Watch the full video to see her and the dream horse ad has more info and price. Please ask any question after you’ve read her dream horse ad.
Thank you!!

Edit-we’re filled up again- Thank you.
We have one spot that has opened up in our hard to get into but amazing 3 day Ranch Experience on April 7-9 in Nashville NC.
It’s an all inclusive weekend filled with true horsemanship, low stress stock handling, roping, working out of a rodear, cutting and long days full of working cattle on a working outfit. Meals are cooked in Dutch ovens and the food is plentiful and ohhhh so good.
Please contact me via FB for more information. To set you up for success you and your horse must be confident riding out in the open and be confident at the canter.

We just wrapped up a 3 Day advanced clinic full of die hard, determined, eager to learn folks. Some were dressage riders some were on gaited horses some mainly trail riders.
People often ask what do we cover in a Remount clinic? Well…we work on what you need to work on, not necessarily what you want to work on.
See before every clinic I have a loose format of what I want to cover. But as soon as the horses and people show up I have to modify my plans in order to work with the student and horse where they are at while still striving to attain their personal goals. My clinics are not a strict follow this, do this or you’ll get left behind. In every maneuver that we do I adjust my teaching for that specific pair. If one student is working on flying changes the next might need to work on simple changes or canter departs or just plain cantering. I always strive to break it down so while you may not be doing exactly what everyone else doing you are still working towards it. Gaining the foundation, body control of both human and horse to prepare you for advancing.
In this past 3 Day Advanced clinic we worked on. Using our body instead of relying on our reins for stopping, turning, backing etc. then added rein use, inside and outside rein for shaping, shifting weight and refining our horses. We worked on riding dang near perfect circles and straight lines using visual aids. We used patterns that help our horses slow down and fix their own flexion. We worked on marching backups with instant canter departs while the riders chose the departing lead. Leg yielding, lead changes. Worked the cutting flag. Worked on picking up each lead on a straight line. Played games, Worked on causing our horses to be more responsive and gain more responsibility for maintaining gait and keeping their bodies where it was optimum for whatever maneuver we were doing. We worked on being very particular while we ride so the signals are clear to our horses and it’s easy to understand what we’re asking. And individuals were coached so that they were pushed but not pushed so far that they or their horses would feel like losers and that they were lagging behind others, but feel like winners.
So at my clinics you learn and learn a lot and we ride a lot. Even in the pouring rain like these troopers last weekend.

But… I think they were tired of being particular in this picture and said to heck with even spacing!!😂😂

Day two of our advanced clinic. Horses and riders showing great improvement and enthusiasm for a dismal spring day. Embrace the suck and keep going!

Trailer loading can tough especially when dealing with years long habits and developed patterns. It takes time to overcome them. No such thing as magic sauce, gotta work at it and work with the horses mind where he’s at and reward every try but know what a try is and always progress.
This big guy was a loading piece of work but I do believe he’s getting with the program and picking up new useful patterns.
Watch the video and don’t forget to DO THE DAB every now and then!!
His loading videos will be coming soon to www.patreon.com/remounthorsemanship and there’s tons of other loading videos up already.

Holy moly!! Wrapped up our two day clinic after horse development week. Riders and horses did phenomenal!! Safe to say that all the goals were accomplished, achieved and surpassed!
Took this picture of the last remaining riders (some had to leave early) and we ended the cold windy weekend with a nice little trail ride after working the flag.
Oskar the fjord needed a little mental motivation to get going forward. Used a little mental game for that and it worked fine.
That little blue roan filly after only a week on the cutting flag really opened up and started tracking, stopping and turning on her own. She had some issues with maintaining gait so the first thing I did was take her to the flag. The flags the release, the sweet spot. The faster she got to the flag the faster she got rest. The more reason she had to move her feet and maintain gait. Gave her a reason to open up using psycology to maintain gait. No kicking, spurring or whipping. What a huge change she and the others made. 👌👌
Fantastic week!!

02/16/2024

During Horse Development week we work on A LOT of things. Horses moving balanced and correctly, leads, transitions and of course the affectionately named ditch of death!

02/16/2024

Every HD week I bring in an assistant to not only help with the horses and work that goes into the week but it’s an amazing opportunity for them to LEARN so much during the week.
Julie has always wanted to start a c**t and so…she did, in fact she started two very different ones and did a great job.
Well done Julie!!

The horse development week horses are dropped off and settled in.
With 8 for the week and 4 outside horses in, my assistant and I are gonna be plenty busy this week. But I really enjoy the work.
Growing up being a 2yr old man just starting c**ts wasn’t enough and being just a finisher tuner up man wasn’t enough. I wanted it all. So sometimes in the morning we may be working on trails, transitions, gaits within the gaits or trailer loading then put the first rides and foundation work on some later in the day then maybe finish up with flying lead changes or riding with smooth engaged contact.
I wanted to be able to do it all and do it with excellence. From the start to much more advanced horsemanship.
I’ve been very blessed to do what I do and I enjoy every day of it and learn everyday because no two horses are the same and the fun is in figuring out how the individual works and honeing the skills needed to accomplish the goals.
Gonna be a good time!!!

Get outside and horse around!! 👌👌

WE HAVE a couple spots in our 3 Day Advanced Clinic on June 28-30 here in siler city.

READ the reviews below and get signed up now to start growing your horsemanship, NO MATTER THE DISCIPLINE!!

Also if you'd like to host us next year please reach out early so we can fit you in.

Attended the Green Recruit Clinic this weekend. 10 out of 10! Thank you for offering training that is applicable to such a diverse group of horses and people. Thank you for meeting each of us where we were! We were all there from different disciplines with different goals. Everyone worked, learned and celebrated our victories big or small!

Attended the clinic of a lifetime with Remount Horsemanship Bandit and I learned so much! (Mainly how much work we have to do!) If you want tons of ride time, a weekend of knowledge and support, great people and you aren't scared to learn and work...be sure to sign up with Richard. Not alot of pics as we were working! My favorite part were the circles! Lol

Calm and focused is SOOO much better than frantic scared and scattered. When working with our horses it’s very important to stay calm and focused in our own bodies. If we are scattered then our horses will also be scattered.
A good leader can remain calm and think in high stress situations, it’s imperative in order to direct those under our guidence who may be scared and really needing a leader.
I’ve been in more than one situation where as a young man with the Forest Service I was scared and not knowing exactly what to do. That’s when the upper brass the crew bosses and captains step in, calmly (sometimes loudly and with vulgarities) direct and refocus us to the job at hand or even to an escape route to get out of a hairy situation. After we’ve been shown the way and how to deal with situations then we as individuals will be able to do what’s needed without being told
It’s the same with horses, minus the vulgarity, stay calm and focused and the horse will seek you as a leader and follow your calm focused lead and soon they will accept more responsibility and start to develop self management.

Our first clinic of year was a
Huge success!!! As usual very few pics, we were busy! They found out that in my clinics we ride ride ride and work on real life riding skills and a lot of them!! Great weather, great people, full arena, new faces and familiar faces.
We spent a lot of time in the arena working on body control, speed control and patterns to help the horse and humans communicate better and have control of their horses. Hit the obstacle course and a little ride around the hay fields.
Thank you all so much for coming out and riding with me.
Next week is Horse Development week and it will be a BUSY week I tell you! Here’s one video of the Ditch of Death being conquered👌👌
