NEW ARRIVAL! Charly is a 13 pound Westie/Maltese mix who is looking for a furever family to spoil him rotten. He was surrendered to the shelter by his previous family, badly matted, confused, and scared. Charly's foster got him all spiffed up and is working with him on potty, crate, and leash training and trusting humans again. Charly gets along well with other dogs and kids, doesn't have much interest in cats. He is energetic and vocal, would do best in a house, not an apartment, with an adopter who is home a good portion of the time, committed to continuing his training and giving him lots of attention and exercise. In rescue, there are times when you just can’t say no. Though funds might be short and there’s no foster to be found, once you hear what a cat or dog has endured, there is no way you can’t help. On this Giving Tuesday, a Global Day of Giving, we'd like to share Lady's story.

Lady is a 1-year-old Pit mix that we could not walk away from. By 10-weeks-old, Lady had sustained multiple fractures to her front legs that were never treated by a veterinarian, resulting in permanent disfigurement and mobility issues. The injuries were blamed on “accidents” and “brittle bones.” At 7-months-old, Lady suffered a break to her back leg that could not be ignored or explained away. The vet hospital who performed her surgery convinced her owner to sign her over to their custody fearing that if she remained in the home, she would not last much longer. Through a mutual acquaintance, Freckles Foundation was asked if we could help. The moment we met Lady we knew she was something special. Her broken body told a sad story, but her eyes were full of love and hope and there was no way we were not going to help her. Lady spent 3 months in foster care with our founder, Athena Reizakis, healing inside and out, waiting for the right adopter to come along. When an applicant reached out looking for a companion for his non-verbal autistic son, we suggested Lady might be a good fit. Not surprisingly, it was love at first sight for both Lady and her potential adopter. She welcomed them with open paws, giving a huge hug to her new brother as soon as she met him. Within minutes, it was obvious that Lady had found her forever family. Lady and her new big brother are now inseparable. Her new dad reports that she has really helped to bring the family together and he sees a lot of positive changes in his son that he attributes to the bond he has formed with Lady.

Unfortunately, due to the severity and degenerative nature of the injuries Lady sustained with her previous owner, she continues to require both surgical and supportive care to remain pain free. Freckles Foundation has and will continue to assist Lady’s adopters in funding her care for the remainder of her life.

Calling lovers! Ace is in need of a foster home. Ace is a 3 year old, 20 pound Poodle who was surrendered to the shelter just days before Thanksgiving. He’s said to be good with other dogs, cats & kids. Because he’s scared in the shelter environment, if there are kids in his foster home, they must be respectful of his space so he’s able to

Happy ! Freckles Foundation and Animal Rescue is incredibly grateful for our volunteers, donors, and adopters. Unique looking and sweet as pie, Reeses came to Freckles Foundation as a refugee from Hurricane Milton who was due to be euthanized. Reeses gets along great with other dogs, cats and kids. His foster mom reports that he is a wonderful houseguest and is both potty and crate trained. Reeses would love a home with a big yard to romp in and maybe a buddy to go on doggy adventures with.
