My favorite! The first dog I've ever had the opportunity to train and one that taught me much more than I could've ever expected. Simon is a rescue with a huge personality and the facial expressions to match 😂. We learned how to walk properly, leash control, basic commands, and built both of our foundations at the same time. As you grew into a better dog, I grew into a better trainer. As you understood the world around you was now safe, nurturing, fun, and you had a family that loved you... my understanding of all those things grew as well! How amazing it was to be able to help a family love and build a relationship with their dog. How excellent it was to see you grow to feel safe, non-reactive, curious, loving, playful, and into such a wonderful dog!

To begin being, you must begin doing!

That quote has kept me motivated to pursue the life I wanted. 100% of the reason I am a dog trainer right now.

I began my dog training journey with Simon (1st photo) and had 0 experience before making the decision. Along the way I tried, I failed, I succeeded, and I kept going! Today I have the honor of being called many monikers such as "the dog whisperer", "Mr. MiDogyi" and even "Dogs best friend" but for me I am a student of this game and will continue to grow...
I have love for every dog that has come through the Jett's Pets program. Each one has taught me a new lesson and sharpened my skills along the way.

I am a dog trainer NOW because I began training dogs THEN.

How do you do this?
The answer is patience and clarity! Dogs are wonderful at learning a pattern and sticking to it. Our objective is to identify the pattern, teach it clearly, and be patient with our pups as they learn.

Advice for dog training: If you fail, make it easier. If you succeed, do it again!

VOLUME UP FOR PUPPY SNORES!

It's very cool when things go right the first time... it's not very common. Clarity and patience have become two very key parts of my training. Dogs: Emerie, 5mos | Griffey, 2yrs | Yogi, 2yrs

2 words that changed everything. "WITH ME" & "GO AHEAD" The most common challenge I see with dog owners is that their dogs are pulling. For me, it became absolutely necessary to develop a way to solve this problem. First, I had to think about what we were actually dealing with and addressing....figuring that out gave me a much better perspective on how to tackle the issue. Dogs ARENT PULLING, THEYRE WALKING & WE ARE RESTRAINING THEM 😅 So that's where I started... instead of restraining my dog because they are walking much faster than me (4 legs vs 2), I decided to create a criteria for them to understand. If we are walking, then we are doing just that! Point A to Point B and we don't need to take any breaks in between. BUT every dog needs some time to do their own thing, so that's where the second part of the criteria comes into play. Giving my dog time to go do as they please, only restricted to the understanding that they must use that time smell, play, bathroom or do something productive. No reactivity, no fixating, just enjoyment. ●Method Below● •So the first step is figuring out for myself, WHEN is it walking time and WHEN is it dog time. Well for me I do about a 70(walking)/25(dog time) split for our outside time. •Second step is teaching that being next to me is the most positive place. I may feed their food from my hand during walking time to enforce this idea. •Third step is communication! This is so important! I use my leash as the primary communicator to send my message and support that through body language and minimal speech. Long leash when I'm encouraging "dog time" and short leash when we are just walking. TL;DR: COMMENT "WALK" FOR A SHORT VIDEO ON HOW TO CHANGE YOUR DOGS PULLING & WALKING HABITS.
