I'm hoping to get the dye pots going again this week and work on some more rolags and angora blends! I have been working up a 90/10 blend of Cormo and Angora that is so so soft!

My goal for this year is to figure out how to dye self striping yarn which is turning out more difficult than I thought it would be. I'm also trying to make more time for spinning and working on my plying abilities.

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying 2025 so far.

Decided to switch my sock knitting up a bit this time and start both at the same time. I’m hoping this helps cure the second sock syndrome I usually experience. Also switched to metal needles because my kittens have destroyed my wooden ones. They’re working out so nice I also ordered some metal DPNs 😊

Bunny cages are clean as a whistle finally. I love doing a big deep clean before winter hits.

Since I have downsized a lot in the past few years I have all boys right now. The top right cage is my old boy Jackson(Harlequin) and he is the father to all my other boys. Top Left is Evan(Lilac Tort) and bottom right is Hank(Black Tort) who are brothers. Bottom left is Clyde(broken black tort) and middle right is Arlo(Black Tort).

Next on the to-do list is fall haircuts ✂️

I had some spare Merino top that’s been hanging out for awhile so decided to play around with some dye techniques before I try on an actual braid. The blue/green is 4oz and I wanted to try dying a dry braid that was already braided up. What I did was first due with fluorescent yellow pink and blue. I let that dry and then braided it up and threw it in a pot with some teal. The teal turned the colors purple green and blue. It has patches of pinks and yellow from where it was braided and the teal dye couldn’t reach. Still need to test it under a black light to see how it glows.
The second was about 4oz and I tried a similar process. I dyed it with regular dyes in red organs and yellow. I decided to try the same technique but overdying with black. Hoping it would give it a fire look. Well that didn’t happen lol. It ended up turning the reds and yellow a dark purple and an olive green. Still looks really cool but not what I was going for.

It’s been so hectic around here but I’m still excited for Tour de Fleece which started yesterday! My main goal is just to spin everyday even if it’s just a little bit. I would also like to focus on plying this year as it is not my strong suit, but I would love to be more confident in chain plying and other methods.

It’s been a busy month but I was finally able to throw some Fourth of July colors in the dye pot. I have one sock weight skein with two contrast minis in my Sweet Liberty colorway and I also have a 100% Corriedale Cross top braid! They turned out a little more purpley when the colors mixed but I still like the way they turned out 😊

Other exciting news, I found a great mill in Iowa that will be able to spin my angora I’ve been hoarding into a 50/50 blend with merino wool and then will create a fi*****ng weight double ply yarn for me! I’m on the schedule to send my angora in August and it should take about a month to get the yarn back! I’m very excited to see how this yarn turns out!
