We are a Non-Profit Corporation who rehabilitates injured or sick wild horses and foals from the range in hopes to release them back to the wild. If they can’t go back to the Wild then they are placed in appropriate homes.

Did you know?

We currently have 13 rescues here, from mustangs, to quarter horses to gorgeous Arabs. All with different personalities, different stories, but all looking for their forever homes! Well, a few are here to live out their lives with us as they have reached their 30’s and deserve a quiet, hay and love filled life with us. ❤️

Yes, tomorrow is Volunteer Day from 9 am - 11 am!

This month, we celebrate 9 years since becoming a nonprofit organization and we are proud of what we’ve accomplished! We’ve rescued abused and neglected horses, feedlot horses and some from auction as well. We’ve taken in owner surrenders when the owners lives changed and they could no longer care for them.

We’ve had injured mustangs, orphaned foals and everything in between. Some were returned to the range, some humanely euthanized and some who were adopted.

We’ve had tears of joy and many tears of heartbreak, but we’ve always had the best interest of the horse in mind. Some decisions were terribly difficult.

Over the past few years, our focus returned to the abused and neglected horses. And, we’ve opened up to other animals in need. From Millie-moo, our cow, to her best friend Mocha, a sheep and more. Recently Animal Services received calls regarding piglets falling from the haulers semi. A total of 4 were found. Two of those piglets are with us, recovering from road rash and bruising. These 2 little fellas have captured our hearts and they will be heading to their new home soon.

Our vision for the next year is to find forever homes for the rescues we have, enabling us to help others. We’ll see what other animals come along for the ride!

Volunteer Day is tomorrow from 9am - 11am! Temps will only be in the 80’s, what more could one ask for? 😊

Do you have young children who dream of owning a pony? We have 3 adorable minis who are gentle and kind and love to be groomed! They are a great introduction to the horse world and not so big and intimidating as a larger horse.

We also have a new addition! Darla was born Tuesday, however her mom, Daisy, had a pr*****ed uterus so they both were rushed to the emergency vet. They will be coming home today and we can guarantee you will fall in love with Darla! ❤️

We hope y’all had a great 4th of July! This is a friendly reminder that we will be closed tomorrow.

I did want to share with you some things we’ve been working on around the rescue. Thanks to some amazing volunteers for helping us out! When one of our volunteers, who has been coming out for 5 years, tells you the place is looking amazing and reflected on how far we’ve come, we can’t help but feel proud, even though we still have so much to do.

Happy Friday everyone! We will be open for Volunteer Day tomorrow, from 9-11 so we can beat the heat! Come out and enjoy the horses!

I am including a calendar for July as we have some personal commitments ahead, affecting our Volunteer Days.

Also, I am including an updated picture of Magic who is slowly coming along on gaining weight. A huge thanks to Select the Best for their generous donation of Nu-Weight! We sure appreciate it!

We haven’t posted for a bit, but we will very soon. So much has been happening around the rescue!

This post is a tribute to Sue Olmsted who was a LBL Board Member for many years. Sue was the queen of water trough cleaning and drove our truck to get hay cubes for feeding. She was a wild mustang advocate and absolutely loved the horses. Sadly, Sue lost her courageous battle to cancer and she will be missed by many. Rest in peace Sue and thank you for being a part of LBL Equine Rescue. ❤️ 💔

We had Spring Clinic today with Dr. Sean Peck and Dr. Ellyn Harris. We sure appreciate all they do to help our rescues!!

Our vet bill was $909 and if you’d like to donate, it would be extremely helpful and gratefully appreciated!

It’s Memorial weekend and we will be open Saturday from 10-12! Come on by for some rescue love and enjoy the morning!

I have a story to share from this week. Monday, a friend sent a text. ‘Remember last year when a wild mustang stallion got into our corral?’ My response was ‘yep, uh oh’.
I get a pic of a very tiny black c**t, absolutely adorable. His name is Mookie and his mom is Coco. My first questions are, has he p**ped? Has he nursed? Did Mom pass the placenta? All answers were yes!
Tuesday, I get a call. Mookie isn’t able to stand and neighbors came by to get him up and nursing. He isn’t able to stand long and he’s straining to p**p. So I head up to assess him and I had concerns. Poor Coco had a bad case of Pigeon Fever previously and was struggling to put on weight. Carrying a foal certainly didn’t help.
We agree to haul Coco and Mookie to Comstock on an emergency basis. Thankfully, our newest Board Member Kaysha, was available to help. Got Coco loaded and Mookie on the front seat of the truck, held by Kaysha.
The drive to Comstock felt like it took forever. Bloodwork was done, vitals taken, and then we wait. Sadly, the tests came back indicating poor little Mookie had a very bad infection, most likely transferred through his mom. His prognosis was poor and the most difficult decision was made to euthanize him. 😪
Bloodwork was done on Coco and hers indicated an infection as well. The vets believe she has internal pigeon fever. Coco is home with her family and is on 2 medications to help her get better. A recheck is scheduled next month.
I want to thank my friend for reaching out to us and trusting us to provide the best care possible. A huge thanks to Comstock for getting us in and taking good care of Coco and Mookie and a special thanks to Kaysha for helping as I would not have been able to do this alone.

Euthanasia never gets easier, even after 10 years of rescuing. And babies are very difficult. We have always strived to do what’s best for each individual horse as suffering is not an option for these beautiful animals. It’s a tough decision.

Saturday is Volunteer Day from 10 am - noon!

Today was a big day for Magic! Dr. Harris was out to do a complete physical, vaccination, teeth float and sheath cleaning. His teeth were bad, contributing to his weight loss so now he should be able to continue gaining weight. He was very sensitive, even after anesthesia, so he will need another float come Fall. There were no signs of melanomas! His age was confirmed at 18 years old and we’ll be excited to continue watching and sharing his progress. This boy is the sweetest gelding.

Attached is Magic’s vet bill for today. Thank you to Rae and Carole Ann, we’ve raised $70 towards this bill and appreciate any and all help!

We will be CLOSED this Saturday and will resume volunteer day the following Saturday, May 4th!

Magic is doing very well! This is probably the sweetest gelding around and he loves being groomed and loved on. He had so many thistles embedded in his mane, forelock, tail and body.

As soon as our vet is available, he will get his teeth floated and will be vaccinated. Please donate if you can!

I headed out this morning to bring home a new addition to our rescue! Meet Lacy, an 18 year old BLM mustang whose owner has become ill and can no longer care for her. Nancy, thank you for entrusting your special girl to us. Not only is she loved by the humans here, but Brittany’s very tall thoroughbred took a liking to her. Lacy is very small and absolutely adorable! She loaded into the trailer like a champ! Tomorrow we’ll be putting up her shelter and stall.

EDIT: NEGATIVE! She is not pregnant. Now to work on getting her some exercise and a new home!

Of course, we have mixed emotions. The feedlot claimed she was pregnant, another ploy to make money from these poor horses. It’s all good, she’s a sweetheart and deserves to be loved so she’ll continue receiving the love we have for her until she finds her new home. ❤️

Tomorrow is Saturday and we’ll have volunteer day from 10 am - noon!

Shakira’s pregnancy test came back! Do you think it was positive or negative? If it’s positive, she will remain with us until baby is weaned. If it’s negative, she will be available for adoption!

Blue is still looking for his forever home. He’s approximately 10 years old, two blue eyes and moves beautifully. He came from an abuse/neglect case and needs a calm, patient person who has the time to spend with him. We believe he will be an amazing horse for the right person!

Carson and Luke are looking for their forever homes. Carson is about 5 or 6 yrs old, he’s a mustang, halter broke, stands for the farrier. Can go in any direction but would be awesome on barrels. Luke is in his teenage years and is an Arabian. He halters, stands for farrier. He’d be great for trails or arena work! If you’re interested let me know! Carson’s adoption fee is $500 Luke’s adoption fee is $500

Escaped

Luke and Carson escaped into the back field and sure had fun! These two boys are looking for their forever home! Luke is a teenage bay Arabian with great ground manners. Stands for the farrier and loves to be groomed. We do not know how he is under saddle. Carson, is a young mustang and has had ground work. He stands for the farrier and of course, he loves to be groomed. He has not been ridden so will need training. He is always the leader! Small and fast! If you’re interested in adopting either of these boys, please let us know. They both deserve a family who has time to spend with them.

Carson needs rescuing!

Our mornings are often interesting! Carson is looking for his forever home! He’s a 4 year old petite mustang, halter broke, loads, stands nicely for farrier, beautiful mover and fast. Oh, and loves to get himself into some awkward situations but loves people and being groomed. A small adult or child would be best suited to take him to his next level of training!

Foal is finally up after an hour in a half of trying! Now trying to figure out how to nurse with those wobbly legs! We’ve been in constant communication with our vet! Keona is being a wonderful mother and helping it find its way! We will monitor throughout the night! We will update Gender as soon as we can....is it be a boy or a girl????
